All you need to know about AMD’s Next Horizon Event

AMD announces new 7nm EPYC Rome processors based on Zen 2 architecture as well the new 7nm MI60 GPUs based on “Vega-20” Radeon GPU architecture in its Next Horizon Event

After a long wait, finally, AMD has revealed its new EPYC Rome processors yesterday. At AMD’s Next Horizon Event, they have announced world’s first 7nm chipset that’s particularly designed for server platforms.

The Zen 2 micro-architecture has been very special to the company as because the EPYC processors have got a huge jump, directly from 14 nm Naples to the 7nm Rome. Also, this Rome architecture is very significant to connect the bridge between the Naples to the future Milan EPYC processors which are based on the “Zen 3 architecture”.

Interestingly, it’s for the first time the new server processors will out beat the Xeon dominated server end microprocessors. At the same event, AMD showcased their new 7nm Vega-20 Radeon GPUs that will be first installed in the Radeon Instinct MI60 GPU accelerators.

This event is clearly a “Next Horizon” for AMD, as because AMD from now on can alone compete both the giants Intel and NVIDIA with their own CPUs and GPUs.

AMD CEO DR. Lisu Su presented the keynote at the event. She stressed on AMD’s focus on data centres, cloud computing and server end processors and GPUs. She discussed many of the key roles that these processors will be used for, such as workloads in HPC, cloud, hyperscale, and virtualization environments.

AMD looks forward to the data centre industry as a $29 billion opportunity by 2021. GPUs will be playing a larger role as the industry shifts to artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads.

It’s needless to say that AMD has got a great market share as the leading cloud computing service Amazon AWS shifts on to AMD’s server end EPYC processors.

Lenovo, after a year of silence, is starting to make a bold move in the market for past couple of weeks. After launching the new Lenovo K9 and Lenovo A5 in India, it has again started to revive its smartphone legacy.

Previously Lenovo launched the Lenovo Z5 with an iPhone X-style notch design, which did not seem appealing to customers. Well, now finally they are to bring something new, something fresh… They have launched the Pro version of the Lenovo Z5 with some cool specs like sliding camera, bezel-less display, Snapdragon 710 processor and much more…

Let’s talk more about this new and unique Lenovo Z5 Pro:

Design

After Oppo, Honor and Xiaomi, Lenovo joins the party of making sliding style mechanism smartphones, getting rid of the same notch design.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro has been purely made out of series-7 aluminium. The slider mechanism of the smartphone is backed by a six-position guidance structure.

The structure of the mechanism has a two-parallel axis that is strong enough for around 3,00,000 slides. The number is quite similar to the lifespan of the sliders present on both Mi Mix 3 and Oppo Find X.

Display

The Z5 Pro bears a huge 6.39-inch AMOLED display, with an FHD+ display resolution. With a 95.06% screen-to-body ratio, Lenovo Z5 Pro has the largest display of any notch-free smartphone available right now.

It has a support for DCI-P3 colour gamut for rich and vivid colours. Also, there’s the HDR 10 for viewing content on Netflix, and the brightness on this device can go up to 600 nits.

The narrow 2.07mm bezel on the top and the edges make it the slimmest one out there in the market.

Performance

The Lenovo Z5 Pro significantly bears the Qualcomm’s new mid-range Snapdragon 710 AIE Turbo chipset.

Paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, this device has a lot of power in it as well. The device has an onboard AI engine, chip-level payment security and next-gen NFC chip.

The Dolby panoramic sound is rich, clear, and adjusts according to your position.

Camera

This is one of the most anticipated segments of every smartphone. For Lenovo Z5 Pro, you get quad cameras with the smartphone.

Yes, you guessed it right, this one has dual cameras both at the front and for the rear. This will enhance the portrait shots taken with this device.

The rear camera includes a primary 24MP Sony IMX576 sensor (f/1.8) and a secondary 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor (f/1.8). The f/1.8 aperture helps you capture more light, making your photos crisp and helping you capture great low-light photos.

On the front, we have a 16MP and an 8MP sensor hidden in the manual slider mechanism, which pulls off automatically when you intend to shoot a selfie. The dual front cameras will help you get an enhanced Portrait Mode-style photography with artificial bokeh blur to the background behind the subject.

Software and Battery

The Lenovo Z5 Pro ships with the Android Oreo 8.0, instead of the latest Android Pie. On top of that, you get the company’s own ZUI 10 skin that borrows a lot of similarity to MIUI 9. This skin has some interesting features including:

Security

We are not sure of the presence of the facial recognition, but we can expect an IR facial recognition feature to be embedded in the sliding front cameras.

Lenovo, on the other hand, boasts of the inclusion of the fifth-gen optical in-display fingerprint sensor. This is claimed to be even faster than the OnePlus 6T’s in-display fingerprint sensor. It is said to unlock the smartphone in just 0.2 seconds, that is even faster than the 0.34 seconds of the new OnePlus 6T.

Price & Availability

Lenovo, who is known for its creativity, has already launched this device in its native country China. They are selling models with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, but there’s no word on the availability of microSD slot.

It has been priced at 1,998 yuan (approx. Rs 21,000) for the base 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage variant. However, you can also pay 2,298 yuan (approx. Rs 24,500) for the 6GB+128GB variant.The Z5 Pro is now up for pre-order and will soon go on sale from November 11.

MacBook Air 2018 as a whole

The new MacBook Air houses a 13.3-inch Retina Display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels with 16:10 aspect ratio, which seems pretty cool for a laptop.

With slimmer bezels and weighs just about 1.25 kg. Being 17 per cent lesser volume than previous MacBook Air, this one is just ideal enough to carry anywhere for any work purpose.

The base variant of the MacBook Air is powered by 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor paired with 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD storage space.

Though the exact name of the chipset has not been revealed by the Cupertino giant, Intel has confirmed that the new MacBook Air uses the Intel Core i5-8210Y processor. This amber lake processor is basically made for slim laptops with fanless design.

You can also opt in for another MacBook Air that comes with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1.5TB SSD storage.

The port options on this device, however, remains quite the same as previous. It packs in two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The notebook for the first time features the Apple’s Touch ID for secure login.

As we all know, MacBooks do have great battery life, so, this one too is claimed to have a 12-hour battery life (depending on the type of use).

The new MacBook Air comes equipped with the butterfly switch keyboards with individually lit buttons. It also houses the new Force Touch trackpad, that is said to be 20 per cent larger than the one in the previous MacBook Air model.

Price & Availability

The base variant of the new MacBook Air 2018 has been priced at Rs. 1,14,900 in India. The 256GB SSD storage variant, on the other hand, bears a price tag of Rs. 1,34,900.

No official words have been uttered by Apple on its availability in India. But, it’s starting the journey from November 7 to tear down the US market. You can expect it to land to India by the end of this year.

Verdict

When you just have a quick overlook of the new MacBook Air 2018, you may feel it be much more slim, elegant and light. It has slimmer bezels around the corner and a gorgeous Retina display on top.

Secured by the new Touch ID and being powered by latest 8th gen Intel Core processors, it’s an ideal Mac for any Apple fan out there.

Chipmaker MediaTek launches their new flagship Helio P70 Soc with AI engine, Realme is to be the first one to use it in their smartphones

When mainstream chip-makers like Qualcomm, Apple and Huawei is busy to fabricate their new 7nm processors, MediaTek is waiting to break through with its flagship 12nm Helio P70 chipset processors.

After stunning everyone with its blazing performance, Helio P60’s successor Helio P70 has a lot of expectations in a country like India, where the budget and mid-range smartphones are in huge demand.

Helio P70 will have an enhanced AI engine designed to power full-featured smartphones at affordable price points. As expected, both the CPU and GPU of the new chipset will have powerful AI processing on board.

The new mobile processor will bring upgraded imaging and camera support, a gaming performance boost and advanced connectivity features which MediaTek has confirmed in a statement.

These processors are built by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) 12nm FinFET technology. This is the same manufacturer that are currently developing AMD’s new 7nm GPUs and CPUs.

The new Helio P70 features a multi-core APU operating at up to 525 MHz (megahertz). It is fast and very efficient edge-AI processing.

The chipset packs in four Arm Cortex-A73 2.1 GHz processors & four Arm Cortex-A53 2.0 GHz processors in an octa-core big.LITTLE configuration.

Also, there is an improved GPU for the new chipset with Arm Mali-G72 MP3 GPU operating at up to 900 MHz. The new Helio P70 has a 13 per cent performance improvement when compared to the Helio P60.

For the user, it means longer battery life, a more sustainable, higher performance and up to 4.5ºC lower temperature versus competitor alternatives.

The new “youth-focused” smartphone brand – Realme is going to be the first smartphone brand to use the new Helio P70 chipset in its smartphone.

The company has not revealed much about their new Helio P70 powered device, but they have confirmed that it will be revealed sometime in the next month.

After back to back success with the Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro & Realme C1, this brand not at all stops to surprise its customers. Already the Realme 2 Pro has stunned everyone out there with its amazing quality specs and at an affordable price range.

So, in November 2018 we can hope for another new stunner by Realme that can be much more advanced and powerful in all aspects. The price also can be expected to be near about its new flagship Realme 2 Pro.

Assassins Creed: Odyssey

The game is set in 431 BCE, four hundred years before the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins. It recounts the secret fictional history of the Peloponnesian War, which was fought between the city-states of Classical Greece.
The player takes on the role of a mercenary and is able to fight for the Delian League led by Athens or the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.
The game’s main storyline has the player character attempting to restore their fractured family after they and their sibling were thrown off a cliff in their youth and left for dead by their father by command of the Spartan oracle.

Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is an upcoming multiplayer game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

Just Cause 4

Just Cause 4 is being developed by Avalanche Studios and published by Square Enix. The game is being developed with a new version of Avalanche’s Apex game engine. The new technology allows the game to have diverse and extreme weather effects including blizzards, sandstorms, tornadoes and more.
The game is set in a fictional South American country called Solis. Rico Rodriguez takes on the recurring paramilitary group the Black Hand, run by a woman named Gabriela.
Developers of the game noted that improvements had been made to the game’s artificial intelligence over Just Cause 3. These changes were intended to make non-player characters smarter so that they behave more tactically and pose more of a threat to the player. Other improvements to the game engine include physics-based rendering and a new animation system.

The Honor 8C is the first smartphone to be released with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC unveiled back in June this year. Pre-orders will be conducted between October 11-15 on VMall, and the phone goes on sale starting 10:08 am on October 16 on the same Chinese retail portal. It will be sold in Aurora Blue, Magic Night Black, Platinum Gold, and Nebula Purple colour options.

China vs India : The first football friendly in 21 years

In preparation for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, India face their mighty neighbours China at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Suzhou City, Jiangsu province on Saturday in a friendly.

India have not won a single match out of the 17, while China have won on 12 occasions. Five matches have ended in draws. The senior teams of India and China last played in the 1997 Nehru Cup in Kochi which the ‘Red Dragons’ won 2-1.

China is ranked at 76th. They walk in as overwhelming favourites. But India, under Stephen Constantine, have made great strides in the recent past and are now ranked at 97th. India made its way into Asia’s flagship tournament for the first time since 1984 through the qualifying rounds.

China :

Marcelo Lippi led his native Italy to the 2006 FIFA World Cup title. However, his stint as head coach of the People’s Republic of China team hasn’t been smooth sailing. He has won only a third of the matches. But the former Guangzhou Evergrande manager has been trusted to lead the Dragons till the Asian Cup at least.

The immediate concern surrounding the team is the sheer lack of goals. They lost to Qatar 1-0 and were held goalless by Bahrain who are India’s Group A opponents in the Asian Cup.

Forward Yu Dabao has earned a recall to the team. He will be expected to help out 32-year-old Gao Lin. His last goal from open play in national colours came in December 2014. Wu Lei will be deployed on the left flank. He will look to continue his impressive form of late which has seen him notch up 23 goals and 8 assists from 24 outings in the 2018 Chinese Super League (CSL). Zhao Xuri will take up the central role in midfield. Lippi is not expected to make many changes in defence. However, Shanghai SIPG custodian Yan Junling seems to have displaced Zheng Cheng as the numero uno.

India :

Stephen Constantine is expected to stick to a settled squad and is not expected to make a lot of changes.

Subhasish Bose, the U23 national team captain, has an edge over Narayan Das whose form has been on and off over the year. He should start at left-back. Constantine might be tempted to play Rowllin Borges ahead of Anirudh Thapa alongside Pronay Halder, given their contrasting Indian Super League (ISL) form. Skipper Sunil Chhetri is expected to play behind Jeje who is the focal point. The Mizoram striker will be looking to cement his place in the first XI with the Asian Cup fast approaching. Constantine should use all his six substitutes which should see the likes of Nikhil Poojary, Ashique Kuruniyan and Salam Ranjan Singh all get vital minutes on the pitch in the run up to the Asian Cup.

As the Blue Tigers push on for recognition in the continent, there would be no better way to test themselves against a nation in the upper echelons of Asia.
