Honor has shattered expectations in the foldable smartphone market by achieving an official Guinness World Record with the Magic V5. The groundbreaking device lifted an impressive 104 kilograms (229.2 lbs) while suspended, proving that foldable phones can be both elegant and incredibly durable.
Table of Contents
Record-Breaking Achievement
On August 1, 2025, in Dubai, UAE, the Honor Magic V5 officially entered the Guinness World Records for “The heaviest weight lifted by a suspended foldable smartphone.” Guinness World Records adjudicator Emma Brain witnessed the historic achievement, confirming Honor’s engineering excellence.
This remarkable feat demonstrates that foldable smartphones have evolved beyond fragile prototypes into robust daily-use devices capable of withstanding extreme conditions.
Honor Super Steel Hinge Technology
The secret behind this incredible durability lies in Honor’s innovative Super Steel Hinge system:
| Feature | Specification | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | 2300 MPa | Superior structural integrity |
| Fold Endurance | 500,000+ cycles | Long-term reliability |
| Weight Capacity | 100+ kg vertical lift | Extreme durability testing |
| Material | Second-gen Super Steel | Enhanced strength-to-weight ratio |
Design Excellence Without Compromise
Despite its incredible strength, the Magic V5 maintains an impressively slim profile:
- Folded thickness: Just 8.8mm
- Weight: Only 217g
- Form factor: Premium lightweight design
This achievement addresses the primary consumer concern about foldable phones—durability versus portability. Honor has proven that users don’t need to sacrifice one for the other.
Market Impact and Global Launch
The Magic V5’s record-setting performance positions Honor as a serious competitor in the premium foldable market, challenging established players like Samsung and Google. The device is scheduled for global launch on August 28, 2025, in London.
Ingmar Wang, President of Honor Middle East and Africa, emphasized that durability was a top development priority, stating the goal was creating a device that’s “smarter, slimmer, stronger, and more reliable.”
Industry Implications
This Guinness World Record achievement signals a maturation point for foldable technology. By demonstrating extreme durability while maintaining sleek aesthetics, Honor has potentially addressed the last major barrier preventing mainstream foldable adoption.
The Super Steel Hinge technology could become a benchmark for future foldable designs, pushing the entire industry toward more durable solutions that don’t compromise on form factor or user experience.
