Samsung back to 2nd spot with 26% share in the Indian smartphone market

The latest data of Q2 2020 smartphone shipment has arrived and much expectedly the #BoycottChina movement has benefitted Samsung the most. Yes, Samsung has again returned to its 2nd spot which it did slip to Vivo last quarter.

Although the fact remains after how much hype these boycotts have taken place, Xiaomi still leads with a 29% market share simply because of two reasons – price and the value it offers. But Samsung recovered a lot in Q2 2020, as per Counterpoint Research’s data, Samsung has increased its share to 26% in Q2 2020 from 16% during the last quarter.

Samsung, in fact, has recovered the fastest as it reached 94% of pre-COVID levels and paid attention to its offline channels. Samsung had the perfect chance to destroy the Redmi Note series to bring its M series into the limelight but the South Korean giant though of taking advantage by pricing higher even though stuffing specs that do not even come into a competition like what they have done with Galaxy M01 and M11.

Still, its M21 and M31 are pretty well but not like Xiaomi’s, if noticed, its best-selling smartphone on Amazon is Redmi 8A dual which is under Rs.10k. So, Samsung needs to target the entry-level market, make cheaper variants with lesser price margins along with more online variants if they have to overcome Xiaomi.

People have preferred online smartphone shopping more due to pandemic as it reached the highest level ever, accounting for almost 45% of sales. In Q2 2020, other brands including Vivo, Realme, and Oppo came at third, fourth, and fifth positions with 17%, 11%, and 9% market share, respectively. 

Obviously, the total shipment units have decreased significantly like the shipments for Samsung in Q2 2020 was just halved to around 18 million units compared to 31 million units in Q1 2020. Coming to the premium segment of smartphones, OnePlus again sprinted back to the market with its OnePlus 8 series while Apple holds the top spot when it comes to ultra-premium smartphones, thanks to its iPhone 11 sales.

Jan Vertonghen confirms he has left Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen, one of the best defenders in the Premier League, has now confirmed that he has left Tottenham Hotspur as this season ended on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho was appointed as the manager but he was unable to turn things around. From last season’s Champions League finalists to just qualifying for the Europa League on goal difference, Tottenham’s trajectory has gone done this season.

As the 2019-20 Premier League season ended on Sunday, Vertonghen has announced on Monday that he has left Tottenham Hotspur, though his next destination is still unknown.

The Belgium defender has spent 8 seasons with the club. He has played 232 games for Tottenham, winning 129 of those. He has also helped them to keep 72 clean sheets during his time leading the backline. The 33-year-old has also scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists.

Jan Vertonghen wrote on his Twitter account on Monday morning: “So my time at the club comes to an end. A sad day for many reasons. I will miss the friends I’ve made here, the staff that make the club run, playing at the amazing new stadium & of course you fans.”

“Thank you for all the support over the years. You’ve been amazing. We had many unbelievable memories but for now, it’s goodbye.”

Vertonghen who joined Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax in 2012, has shown interest to return to his former club. But there are interests from other European clubs as well like Inter Milan, Napoli and Real Betis. It’s still quite unsure where he is heading into next season.

According to rumors, only 2 months are left for the iPhone 12 series launch and we are already bubbling with all kinds of rumors about the upcoming series. A reliable Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that one of the iPhone 12 series smartphones will have a 5.4-inch display, and he has also shown the image of the display as well. In the image, the screen size is estimated with respect to the hand beside it and it is relative.

This might be the cheapest iPhone 12 model with such a small screen. As per the image, the notch is intact and there seem to be no more modifications in the dimension of the smartphone relative to the iPhone 11 series.

We know the iPhone 12 series will debut in both 4G and 5G versions where the cheapest one with 4G connectivity will be available around $549. Just like the iPhone 11 series the iPhone 12 series will come with dual cameras and triple cameras, but reports claim that the edges wouldn’t be smooth. Even the cheapest iPhone 12 may come to a 2,270mAh battery.

About a month ago, few details about the upcoming iPhone 12 series had surfaced which showed us the schematic design of the vanilla iPhone 12 and as well as the Pro version of the series. The design revealed the most important thing that the upcoming series will feature a smaller notch giving more screen-to-body ratio. Other reports claim that the smartphones will have OLED panels and screen diagonals ranging between 5.4 and 6.7-inches with two 6.1-inch models in the middle.

Reports claim that internally the iPhone 12 series will debut with A14 Bionic chipset, which will be more efficient than the previous generation chipset. The launch date is rumored to be on September 8.

As the Amazon Prime Days are coming close Redmi is preparing to launch a special Prime-only smartphone for the Indian customers. We have already told that Xiaomi has planned a new smartphone launch on the Amazon Prime Days sale and it turns out to be the Redmi 9.

The image shared by the company has already many hints hidden in it. We are here to decode them for you and @stufflistings have also helped to decode them. Mukul Sharma has mentioned that the Redmi 9 will come with Green and Grey colour variants and the smartphone will support 18W fast charging as well.

The Amazon listing also shows the Type-C port and a 3.5mm jack at the bottom. The phone will launch on 4th August and may be priced with Rs.12,000 price range ans the previous Redmi 8 was also has such price range.

At the end of June, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese applications including TikTok, ShareIt, and more, keeping in mind national data security. The highest ever Indo-China border tension was probably the trigger for this step. Now, it seems more Chinese apps are under scrutiny.

A twit by DD News disclosed that the Indian Government bans 47 more applications that are clones of the already banned 59 apps. It looks like, the Lite versions of those apps will be handled this time. Though still no official list has been announced but may publish soon.

As per another report, around 275 more apps, not only the Chinese application but also the Chinese company and developer supported apps are under observation. It is believed, the most popular game PUBG Mobile is also there in the list, along with e-commerce platform AliExpress, Ludo World game, and more.

The scanning process will look for any probable violation or security threats, what kind of data the apps collect from users, and what they share with the Chinese Government. In case you don’t know, the Chinese Government imposed a National Intelligence Law of 2017 on all the Chinese and under Chinese ownership tech giants. As per the law, the companies have to share some or all information that the Chinese Government will ask. This law is one of the main reasons, other nations including India is worried about.

Some of the popular apps that may include in the fresh list are PUBG Mobile in which Tencent has a stack as well as the Mobile gaming parter, AliBaba owned AliExpress, Xiaomi’s Zili, Resso – music streaming app by Bytedance. The applications by Chinese developers or companies like Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, Yoozoo Global are also on the list, as I said earlier.

The 64-year-old has implemented a dominant, expansive style of play at Leeds United which will be well suited to Barcelona’s philosophy.

Bielsa is an Argentine so he would be quickly able to connect with Messi. He also has experience in LaLiga during his time as Athletic Bilbao coach.
