On a perfect Saturday afternoon at Goodison Park, Carlo Ancelotti’s men ran out winners in style as they beat newly-promoted West Brom 5-2. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a hattrick and was rightly crowned the PL Man of The Match for the game. Richarlison was also right on cue providing 2 assists and was beating the Albion defenders time and again with pace and trickery.
But it was new recruit James Rodriguez who rightly earned the plaudits, as the Colombian scored his first goal for the Toffees. Right about the 44th minute in the game, a breakaway counter started by Michael Keane saw Everton surge forward as a functional unit. Richarlison ran on the left flank before coming through the middle and passing it to James Rodriguez.
The ex-Real Madrid attacking midfielder then switched it onto his left foot from his right, dummied the defenders and struck a powerful shot to the left bottom corner to score the goal. It was truly a moment of class from James Rodriguez and is now set to play an even important role in the game.
The match was not devoid of action in any way. Although Everton played some beautiful football on a few accounts, the bad side of the game was pretty much visible as well. Shortly after James’ goal, he appeared to challenge West Brom’s Kieran Gibbs for the ball. Flared up by the attempt, Gibbs pushed away James with his hand, almost near the eyes. Mike Dean made no hesitation to send him off with a red card.
After the half-time, manager Slaven Bilic was also involved in an altercation with the referees and after incessant arguing, saw himself resigned to the stands. There were a couple of positives for West Brom as well, with Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira leading the attack charge for the Hawthorns-based club.
As the Indian Govt easing the PLI scheme, not only Samsung but also Apple’s major manufacturers Foxconn & Wistron wants to focus in India
Apple makes its iPhones via its major contractors like Foxconn & Wistron, until now, China has been the major place for manufacturing iPhones. However, with US-China trade bans and other economic conflicts with China, Apple wants to shift its manufacturing focus from China to India.
So, the major iPhone assemblers are among the few companies that are expected to win the approval to participate in a $6.6 billion Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) by the Indian govt. This scheme gives smartphone companies 4% to 6% incentive over a five-year period on incremental sales for the manufacturers on a yearly basis.
This stimulus program to bring manufacturing to India has attracted the world’s most valuable company to diversify its production beyond China. Now, as Bloomberg reports, after a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, the Indian government is expected to approve a plan that aims to bring $150 billion in smartphone production over the next five years.
There are dozens of phone makers that have already cleared by a high-powered government committee including Apple’s primary supplier Foxconn Technology Group, which had submitted two applications, and its peers Wistron Corp. and Pegatron Corp.
Besides these Apple contractors, Samsung Electronics Co. is the only other applicant among the five slots allotted to foreign companies. On the other hand, even though Chinese OEMs made initial noise about its support for the Indian government’s local manufacturing, ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘vocal for local’ initiatives, none have applied for the PLI benefits which the government is stressing on these days.
“It’s a thoughtful move by the government aimed at wooing Apple to bring significant iPhone manufacturing to India because, when the iPhone maker shifts, an entire ecosystem follows,” said Hari Om Rai, chairman, and founder of Lava International Ltd., India’s largest homegrown phone maker. “The next five years will be dramatic, and India could become the new China in phone manufacturing.”
Among the wide number of Indian smartphone manufacturers that have applied for the scheme, Lava, Karbonn Mobiles and Dixon Technologies India Ltd are the major ones who want to bounce back into the smartphone manufacturing. These brands almost lost to the Chinese smartphone brands that have emerged for the last few years.
“Chinese brands have driven out domestic phone companies, leaving them with a mere 2% market share,” said Faisal Kawoosa, chief analyst at Gurgaon-based researcher techARC Pvt. “PLI will boost domestic phone makers, help them get back to scale and profitability by selling not just in India, but exporting to foreign markets too.”
Pegatron, who is the second-largest iPhone assembler after Foxconn predominant in China, has registered a subsidiary in India for expanding its manufacturing in the country. Apple even accounts for more than half of Pegatron’s business and if its application is approved, Pegatron will be setting up its first factory in Chennai which will be PLI scheme approved.
“India’s incentive scheme will be a game-changer that will make the country No. 1 in mobile manufacturing or at least a close No. 2 by 2025,” said Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman of India Cellular and Electronics Association.
However, Xiaomi still holds the lead when it comes to the budget smartphone market, while Samsung trailing behind them, so does the other Chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo, Realme. On the other hand, OnePlus is trying to grab the mid-range market with OnePlus Nord and it already leads the premium smartphone market with the OnePlus 8 series.
Next year, 2021 will be even more crucial as India plans to start its 5G trials, so naturally, 5G smartphones is the future, so it will be interesting to see how the market evolves and Apple engages itself to boost iPhone sales in the country.

Italian football has been a breeding place for young talent to take the next step forward and showcase their ability and skills to the world. Nicolo Zaniolo and Gianluigi Donnarumma are just a couple of examples that testify why the right opportunities at the right time can serve to benefit clubs and national teams as well.
That said, here is a look at the Top 5 young players in Serie A who can make their presence felt in Italian club football:
1) Sandro Tonali (AC Milan)
A long-sought prospect for so many clubs around the world, Sandro Tonali has finally made the move to AC Milan from Brescia. The 20-year-old midfielder has been dubbed the ‘next Pirlo’ by many and safe to say, there are valid points for that comparison. A keen tackler with good vision and command in the middle of the park, he will form a genuinely solid pivot with Franck Kessie in the Milan midfield.
2) Marsh Kumbulla (AS Roma)
AS Roma have signed 20-year old centre back Marash Kumbulla, who will be forging a great partnership with Chris Smalling. The young defender was absolutely solid for Hellas Verona last season. Making about 1.6 tackles and interceptions each per game, the 1.91m tall player possesses great physicality and aerial strength. He could also be a threat at the other end of the pitch, with good heading ability aiding his goals as well.
3) Dejan Kulusveski (Juventus)
Signed from Parma for his ability to find the back of the net often, Kulusevski is a versatile player capable of playing everywhere across the frontline. With an ageing Ronaldo and inconsistent Dybala in those positions, the youngster will find plenty of chances to impress in Serie A.
The return of 10 goals and 8 assists in 33 games last season does sound commendable, but there is more to his game than just numbers. He is often known to beat his man for pace and runs down the flank. And even while in the thick of it, his dribbling ability means he can weave around few players to go forward. At the new look Juventus, he will certainly look to make his mark as soon as possible.
4) Alessandro Bastoni (Inter)
Not many emerge from the academy to command a starting place in the Inter Milan team. Displacing Diego Godin is a big thing, and Bastoni has managed to do so. Known for his aerial ability and aggression to win duels, he will be an important component in Conte’s team this season.
Bastoni is expected to slot in at the LCB position in a three-man defence. He made around 1.3 tackles per game and had a passing success rate of 89%. A characteristic of Bastoni is to surge forward and help facilitate attacks.
5) Victor Osimhen (Napoli)
Signed for a record fee of 70 million from LOSC Lille, Nigerian international Victor Osimhen comes with a lot of hype and attention. The dominant striker is alert at pressing and constantly likes to beat the offside trap. With a good season of 13 goals and 5 assists in 27 games in the Ligue 1, he will be the focal point in Napoli’s 4-2-3-1 with Mertens and Insigne flanking him to ably provide the necessary support. A positive trait of Osimhen is that he finds confidence and backs himself to keep shooting when the chance presents.
