It has just been 2 months since the IPL 2020 final on 10th November where Mumbai Indians clinched their 5th IPL title, and here we are already talking about the 14th edition of IPL.
The IPL 2021 will be as per regular schedule, i.e. it will start in March-April like all the previous years. Before the commencement of the tournament, they will be having a mini-auction for the 8 franchises.
It has now been officially declared that the IPL 2021 Player Auction will be held on 18th February in Chennai.
Here we take a look at SIX new rules that the 8 IPL franchises have to keep in mind during the mini-auction on 18th February:
1. Player purse
IPL Governing Council has capped the player purse of each franchise at INR 85 crores. All the 8 IPL franchises have already submitted the list of the retained players, which is the deciding factor of the remaining player purse going into the IPL 2021 mini-auction.
The franchises will have no “Right to Match” card as this will be a mini-auction. The RTM card enables a franchise to match to retain its former player by matching the highest bid made for the player, but it is only made available during mega-auction.
3. Squad strength
Each IPL franchise must have a minimum of 18 players in their squad and the upper limit is set at 25 players.
4. Minimum Indian players
Each IPL franchise must have a minimum of 17 and a maximum of 25 Indian players in their squad, including both capped and uncapped players.
5. Maximum international players
Each IPL franchise can have a maximum of eight International players in their squad.
6. Minimum 75% of the player purse to be spent
In IPL, all the franchises were given INR 85 crores to build a team. Now they are directed by BCCI to spend a minimum of INR 63.75 crores on buying the players. If any team spend less than this amount, then BCCI will take the deficit as the penalty. No franchise will now be able to play MONEYBALL like strategy.

FC Barcelona has to pay another extra €5m to Dortmund as part of Dembele deal as the Frenchman made his 100th appearances against Deportivo Alaves for the Spanish side.
FC Barcelona thrashed Deportivo Alaves by 5-1 last night. Ousmane Dembele came on as a substitute. Ousmane Dembele joined FC Barcelona in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund for 105 million euros.
When FC Barcelona went to sign Dembele in the summer of 2017, they found that his price had gone up after the Catalan club’s sell Neymar for 222 million euros. To seal the deal, Barca needed to offer some additional fees. As a Marca report, FC Barcelona needs to pay an extra €5m for every 25 games the Frenchman plays for the club.
However, the final sum could go as high as €135m. Out of that additional €30m comes through Dembele’s 100 appearances. The final €10m will be a bit more difficult to achieve. FC Barcelona will have to pay that €10m once they won the UEFA Champions League.
In his 100 appearances for the Spanish giant, the French winger has scored just 25 times. His injury issues have affected him in his career. Last summer FC Barcelona also wanted to sell him. Manchester United and some other club were interested in signing him on loan, but FC Barcelona wanted a permanent deal for the young winger.
Dembele only has 1 year left in his contract with FC Barcelona. He does not want to renew his contract with FC Barcelona. His contract will end in 2022. FC Barcelona is searching for a new buyer of the Frenchman.
In today’s world, money makes all the talking. There are very few players right now who have spent numerous seasons at a specific club. So a loyal player is hard to find nowadays.
When we think of the current players who are playing for a long time at a particular club, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi comes instantly to our mind. But he not the No 1 in the most loyal football players list.

The NPD Group has released the entire North American sales data of January 2021. With the players spending around $4.7 billion on games, and also for the additional content and hardware, the numbers were huge significantly year-on-year. That’s up 44 percent compared to January in last year. Coming to the hardware, Nintendo Switch sold the most units, but the PS5 tops the chart in terms of revenue generated. Meanwhile, this January has made the biggest hardware sales since the Wii heyday of 2009 and 2010.
On the software front, the big titles of 2020 largely dominated the chart, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The most interesting story is Cyberpunk 2077, which slips down to #18 following the unstable December release of the game. The other big news is Hitman 3, which was released on January 20 but missed the charts entirely. NPD didn’t get any digital sales from IO Interactive so that you can assume the reason, but even considering them, Hitman 3 should have made a spot in the top 20. Though IO Interactive has informed that Hitman 3 is already profitable, so maybe some percentage of the game’s sales were digital or the game is performing well in Europe and the other regions outside of North America.
Here are the top 20 games of January according to NPD:
