Nothing Essential Space Gets Call Recording Feature

Nothing has rolled out a new call recording feature to its Essential Space app, allowing users to capture conversations with a simple long-press of the Essential Key. The feature automatically records calls and provides AI-generated summaries for later reference.

Feature Overview

How Call Recording Works

During any phone call, users can long-press the Essential Key to start recording. This hands-free approach lets you stay focused on the conversation while Essential Space captures every detail in the background.

All call recordings are available in Essential Space, where you can listen to them later. Along with the audio, users can access AI-generated transcriptions and summaries, making it easy to review important details without listening to entire recordings.

Why This Matters

The tagline “Focus and be present in your conversation. Essential Space remembers the details” captures the feature’s core value proposition. Instead of scrambling to take notes during important calls, users can engage naturally while the phone handles documentation.

This is particularly useful for:

• Business calls requiring follow-up action items
• Interview recordings for journalists and researchers
• Customer service conversations for reference
• Important family discussions you want to remember

Essential Space Evolution

Essential Space has evolved significantly since launch. Previous updates brought Google Calendar integration, enhanced Essential Recorder with Flip-to-Record functionality, and the ability to share audio recordings and memories.

The app captures screenshots with the Essential Key, takes audio notes, sets reminders, creates tasks, and now records calls—all with AI-powered summaries. The Nothing Playground feature even lets users generate custom mini apps using text prompts.

Regional Availability

Call recording is rolling out to Nothing Phone (3) and select other devices, but only in certain countries. This limitation likely stems from varying legal requirements around call recording consent in different jurisdictions.

Users should always inform call participants when recording conversations to comply with local laws.
