How the latest technology is stimulating the growth of eSports in India

0

In the case of eSports, it’s fair to say that India is one of the industry’s global rising stars. Possessing one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, the digital sport has a huge domestic audience, with its popularity even beginning to rival more traditional forms of entertainment, such as music and movies.

This trend is driven by a number of diverse factors, but foremost among them are rapidly developing advancements in technology. With high-speed internet connections, increased smartphone usage, and more widespread access to hardware all having a part to play, we look at how these different types of tech are helping to create the perfect conditions for a thriving eSports industry.

Access to high-speed internet connections

If there’s one factor that has been imperative in driving this growth, it is more widespread access to high-speed internet. No matter whether an individual is playing or watching, a quick and reliable connection is arguably essential to enjoying a positive eSports experience.

Pre-2016, only a handful of people within the country had access to this, with most unable to afford such simple luxuries. Fortunately, this all changed when the telecom’s industry underwent a serious and dramatic overhaul, which helped to not only make data faster but more affordable to the masses too.

As a result, India now boasts some of the most affordable data plans in existence, which has helped to stimulate a huge increase in digital consumption. It also has the second-largest internet population, with nearly half a billion of its citizens having access to the world wide web.

This has not only helped to create a larger gaming community but a much-increased eSports audience, resulting in the creation of more tournaments and bigger prize pools. The sport has become so popular because of this that it is broadcast in three different languages and shown countrywide.

Increased smartphone usage

Improved internet access is not the only factor that has had a part to play. So too has the burgeoning smartphone market, which has been bolstered by the creation of budget options like the Vivo U10. Of the country’s internet traffic, three quarters now comes from mobile users – a huge figure when you consider the sheer size of India’s online population.

As a result, developers have responded by creating and retailing ever more powerful devices, which are able to offer a much more enhanced gaming experience. This has helped titles such as Free Fire and Call of Duty Mobile to flourish, as they can be played and enjoyed by almost anyone.

This easy accessibility has also fostered a world of new opportunities for ordinary gamers, with a significant number having become household names (Mortal, Carry Minati, and Scout are just three examples among many).

Due to the massive following these individuals have attracted, global eSports brands have been encouraged to invest in the country’s industry, while also noting a significant spike in interest from audiences around the world.

This trend for increasingly affordable hardware is not only seen in relation to smartphones. Gaming laptops and notebooks have also become much more accessible to ordinary consumers, due to two primary factors: a countrywide spike in wages and the resultant rise in standards of living; and a decrease in pricing re gaming hardware.

This has allowed many more young people to purchase entry-level devices, enhancing their ability to participate, and driving their interest in eSports.

A growth in gaming and entertainment more widely

Source: Pixabay

Understandably, eSports is not the only industry to have benefitted from these changes; gaming and entertainment more widely have seen similar spikes in interest. Online casino is a prime example, and its increased focus on mobile compatibility has perfectly complemented this rise in smartphone usage.

For example, many of the providers featured on directory sites help to evidence this trend, placing a notable emphasis on the quality and breadth of their mobile offerings, as well as their more technologically advanced products, including, for example, live casino.

The same sort of pattern is seen in the app industry too, with India recently having emerged as the fastest growing market in the world, with 19 billion apps downloaded in 2019 alone (up from 6.55 billion three years previously).

With technology only continuing its rapid onward march, the one question remaining is this: how long will it be before India’s eSports sector is the biggest of them all?

IPL 2020: Harbhajan Singh to miss this year’s IPL

Harbhajan Singh’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 was up in the air, until today when he declared that he won’t play in IPL 2020 due to personal reasons.

The IPL keeps on getting even more dramatic especially for the Chennai Super Kings. 13 of their staff including 2 players were tested positive for COVID-19. After that senior player, Suresh Raina pulled out of the tournament to fly back to India. Raina’s hasty retreat has also gained some criticism as it was considered a breach of disciplinary grounds.

But according to an interview he gave in June, it seemed Harbhajan may not participate in IPL 2020 for safety issues pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. (via indiatoday.in):

“I really want the IPL to happen but only when things are safe not just for me but for everybody associated with the tournament. There are about 200-300 people on the ground whenever a match is played and we need to take care of the safety of everybody present”.

“Even if there is a 1% chance of the threat of spreading Covid-19 from one of us then IPL should be further postponed. It’s not an issue even if the IPL doesn’t happen this year. Saving lives is the most important.”

Harbhajan Singh wasn’t part of that the CSK team that flew from India to the UAE. He was expected to fly later.

It has now been reported that Harbhajan is the second CSK player to pull out of the IPL. Nothing has been disclosed about the reason as of now except claiming it to be a personal reason.

Will Harbhajan’s unavailability affect CSK?

Filling the void of someone as experienced as Harbhajan can be difficult for any team. However, as per CSK is concerned, they do have enough resources as alternate options. This year they will have the services of an experienced Piyush Chawla who can certainly fill that void. The spin attack will be led by the spearhead leg-spinner Imran Tahir. They also have another leg-spinner in Karn Sharma.

Though CSK doesn’t have a formidable off-spin option, left-arm spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and even Mitchell Santner can contribute.

Qualcomm introduces new Active Noise Canceling technology in IFA 2020

0

Yesterday, at IFA 2020, Qualcomm introduces its new adaptive active noise-canceling technology for the earbuds to provide a better integrated ANC facility. The technology does this by adjusting ANC in real-time and it depends on different factors such as users’ environment and fit of the buds in the user’s ears.

In simple words, the new technology not only improves the noise-canceling efficiency but also adjusts that automatically as per the usage. For example, if you use earbuds equipped with this technology in a quiet room and then go out to a crowded area, the ANC will scale up automatically.

Qualcomm QCC514x_TechnoSports.co.in

The company claims that after implementation of it users will not have to perform any fit test and sound test, neither need to try different ear tips for a perfect seal to get better ANC. All the processes will become automatic in realtime.

Qualcomm’s QCC514x Bluetooth Audio SoC will be the first one that will come with the new ANC technology. Though the company didn’t say anything about the availability. We hope this will come to the market very soon. Till then, wait for it.

Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8cx GEN 2 Compute Platform with 5G support

0

Back at the end of 2018, Qualcomm announced their Snapdragon 8cx mobile chip for laptops with low power draw and better performance, however, we haven’t seen a lot of them in the market, and which are there come at an insane price point. In fact, Snapdragon 8cx was the first 7nm compute chip even before AMD launched its own, although Qualcomm’s chip is based on the ARM platform.

One of the biggest reasons why Snapdragon 8cx was not a hit at the market is because of the fact that Windows 10 has not been heavily optimized for ARM chips, even though Microsoft is working on that, various app developers haven’t taken this seriously. So, a lot of Windows 10 on ARM laptops haven’t been able to make an impact to the customers, but things have rapidly changed, even Apple is going “all ARM” with their new chips.

Now, in the meantime at IFA 2020, Qualcomm has announced its next-gen Snapdragon 8cx GEN 2 Compute Platform with 5G and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. As Qualcomm rightly stated the fact that the pandemic has raised the demand for powerful and efficient notebooks, people are hunting for good laptops in the market that can last long, it is due to this Intel recently launched their Tiger Lake CPUs.

Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8cx GEN 2 Compute Platform with 5G support

On the other hand, the new Snapdragon 8cx GEN 2 promises a lot of improvements over the last-gen and comes with some unique features. The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G delivers 18% better performance and 39% better productivity performance per Watt than the Intel 10th gen 15 W Core i5 CPU.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G compute platform aims to transform the PC user experience with high-speed connectivity, enhanced audio and camera technology, AI acceleration, and enterprise-grade security features. It offers 5G connectivity through both Sub-6 GHz and 5G mmWave along with the support for Wi-Fi 6.

The new 5G chipset supports a clear audio experience by utilizing Qualcomm Aqstic echo cancellation and noise suppression (ECNS) technology. It comes equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra ISP that enables mobile camera technology, with up to 4K HDR and support for up to 32 MP camera, along with cutting-edge video conferencing and live streaming capabilities. It even supports dual 4K displays through a single Type C cable to a dock

The chip will use Qualcomm AI Engine that brings support to AI accelerated experiences on the PC and deliver breakthrough AI performance with extreme power efficiency. The platform’s efficient AI processing also enables developers to innovate across the Windows ecosystem. It also promises security and manageability for enterprises, small businesses, and education.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G compute platform is expected to be in commercial devices in late 2020.

Top 10 Champions League records that are almost impossible to break

0

UEFA Champions is like the World Cup of club football. It is the pinnacle of European club competition. Every club wants to get their hands on this coveted trophy.

Spanish side Real Madrid has won the Champions League the highest no of times (13). There are many records which in all probability will never be broken in the near future.

Here’s a list of the top 10 Champions League records that will never be broken:

10. The longest streak of matches without conceding a goal

Arsenal didn’t concede a goal in the Champions League for straight 10 matches in 2005-06 Champions League. Their streak ended when they lost to Barcelona in the finals by 2-1.

9. The fastest hattrick

Olympique Lyonnais’s Bafetimbi Gomis scored a hattrick within 7 minutes in 2011 against Dinamo Zagreb.

8. The fastest goal

Bayern Munich’s Roy Makaay scored a goal in 10.12 seconds against Real Madrid in 2007.

7. The player with the highest no of goals in a final

Real Madrid’s Hungarian forward Ferenc Puskas scored 4 goals against Frankfurt in a 7-3 win.

6. The top scorer

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a whopping 130 goals in the Champions League (Manchester United-15, Real Madrid-105, Juventus-10). He is followed by Lionel Messi who has scored 115 goals. But there is a huge gap after that. Raul is in third place with 71 goals.

5. The only coach to win the Champions League three times in a row

Zinedine Zidane was appointed the manager of Real Madrid in the middle of the 2015-16 campaign. He took over the side and guided them to the summit of club football. Many thought it was pure luck and the brilliance of the Real Madrid squad. But Zizou did it again in 2017, winning the Champions League and LaLiga as well. He was starting to get applause from around the world. Then he once again won the Champions League in 2018 and inked his name in the history of football. He is regarded as one of the best managers of world football.

4. The biggest win margin

Dinamo Bucuresti won against the Crusaders by a massive margin of 11-0. It happened in the 1974 Champions League and seems not to be broken in the near future as well.

3. The most goals scored in a match

Feyenoord defeated KR Reykjavik by a scoreline of 12-2 during the 1970 Champions League. The no of goals scored in the match stands at a whopping 14 goals, which is unlikely to be broken.

Premier League club Manchester United had a 25 match unbeaten streak between September 2007 and May 2009. Their unbeaten streak was ended by a loss to Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.

1. The club with the most goals in the finals

LaLiga side Real Madrid has played in the final for a record 16 times and has won 13 of them. In all the finals they have scored 60 goals. Their nearest rival on this stat is AC Milan, who has 31 goals across 11 final appearances.

Some bonus facts:

  • Benfica has the greatest cumulative score of 18-0 (8-0 in the first leg and 10-0 in the second leg) against Stade Dudelange in 1965.
  • Juventus’ Dino Zoff is the oldest player to play in the Champions League final at 41 years and 86 days in 1983 but unfortunately lost to Hamburg.
  • PSG scored the most number of goals (25) in the group stage.
  • Celtic vs Leeds United semi-final in 1970 had 136,505 spectators which is the highest till now. It is double of the attendance of the Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur 2019 final.
