AMD Ryzen 7 5700X review: Another 8 core chip not worth buying over Alder Lake

The Red team recently announced a bunch of budget Ryzen 5000 series processors including Ryzen 7 5700X after a year and a half they actually announced them. This was an awkward move by AMD as they waited for Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake but never did they expect them to be soo good that their own budget SKUs will not be of any good.

So, quite out of panic they have launched these CPUs like Ryzen 7 5700X, Ryzen 5 5600, and others, as reviewers we got to check this AMD Ryzen 7 5700X but is it worth it? Currently, it retails for ₹27k and you have the Core i5-12600K at the same price and the ‘KF’ for a lower price.

On paper with 8 cores managing to compete against a 10 core CPU is already very challenging for AMD and as Intel is further reducing the pricing of 12th Gen SKUs, to recommend one is easier. However, AMD has its own advantages the lower platform costs, broad compatibility and better efficiency. So, let’s find out whether it’s worth buying this new Ryzen 7 5700X or not:

Performance

Having the same Zen 3 architecture you can expect the same kind of single-core and similar multi-core results but what amazed me is that it draws only 65W, giving almost a Ryzen 7 5800X level of performance. Previously, we didn’t have this CPU for over a year and I don’t know why AMD should have launched this earlier.

If you suppose making a mini PC or a gaming PC that you need to be the most silent one out there, this is a great one indeed. The biggest problem for AMD now in 2022 is Intel’s 12th Gen processors, when comparing this to a budget Core i5-12600K, this falls nowhere near to it.

Obviously, AMD has its own advantages and is far more efficient but if you are a user who looks for the future and needs the absolute best performance then Intel is better as you see in the benchmark comparisons below:

As you see in the benchmarks, the new AMD Ryzen 7 5700X easily falls behind the new Intel Core i5-12600K we reviewed both in single-core and multi-core scores across various benchmarks. While the AMD chip is better in terms of efficiency and heating but it depends on whether you need the best price-to-performance or performance only.

Gaming

Coming to gaming performance, the Ryzen 7 5700X performs similar to its brother Ryzen 7 5800X which is a good thing because you have to pay less and the former gets less hot.

At 1080p as you see when paired with and RTX 3070 you have good results across a wide range of triple-A titles and in Battle Royal games the frame rates are even higher. So, while gaming you will have no problems at all with this Ryzen 7 5700X but Core i5-12600K is much better in terms of gaming performance as well.

Verdict

While you can safely say this AMD Ryzen 7 5700X is biproduct of AMD’s urgency to counter Intel’s Alder Lake but yes it is a good product undoubtedly, however, the timing of it is bad. Recommending it over the Core i5-12600K which performs better in all aspects and has better future compatibility along with having lower price makes it a better choice over the new Ryzen 7 5700X.

You can still buy it if you are looking for cheaper platform costs and easier compatibility.
