For WWE, the year of 2024 will be a big change. Following the shocking resignation of former Chairman Vince McMahon due to sex trafficking accusations, the company has entered a new era with Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H, at the helm of creative control.

While fans are excited about Triple H’s influence, a recurring tradition in WWE – talent releases – has continued in 2024.

The potential impact of Triple H’s leadership on future talent management is explored in this article on the WWE Superstars released so far this year.

A Changing Landscape: From McMahon to Levesque

As Vince McMahon, a titan of the wrestling industry, stepped down in the face of legal troubles, the year began with a bang.

This marked a turning point for WWE, ushering in an era under the creative vision of Triple H. Fans who enjoyed Triple H’s tenure leading NXT, known for its focus on athleticism and in-ring storytelling, are hopeful for a shift in the company’s direction.

The Annual Tradition: WWE Releases

In spite of these positive developments, the annual release of talent by WWE continued in 2024. Although the exact reasons for these releases are not always made public, they are often attributed to budget cuts, creative direction changes or a combination of factors.

Released Superstars in 2024

Jinder Mahal (Released: April 19th): A former WWE Champion, Mahal’s release surprised many fans. He had two separate stints with the company, achieving significant success during his first run.

Xyon Quinn (Released: April 19th): Primarily featured on NXT, Quinn never quite made it to the main roster of Raw or SmackDown.

Xia Li (Released: April 19th): A talented wrestler with a unique in-ring style, Li’s release left many wondering about her future prospects.

Sanga & Veer Mahaan (Released: April 20th): The duo, known as Indus Sher, were a popular tag team with potential. Their departure has sparked questions about WWE’s commitment to international talent.

Von Wagner (Released: April 22nd): A rising star in NXT, Wagner’s release came as a surprise, especially considering he hadn’t yet transitioned to the main roster.

Cameron Grimes (Released: April 23rd): A charismatic performer with a bright future, Grimes’ release shocked fans who enjoyed his entertaining character work.

A More Respectful Approach?

While WWE releases are nothing new, reports suggest a change in how the company is handling them in 2024. According to reports, wrestlers are having a more meaningful conversation with company officials instead of impersonal “future endeavours” messages from the past.

For both released artists and fans, this shift to a more respectful approach is an encouraging development.

What Does the Future Hold Under Triple H?

With Triple H in control, fans are wondering what he’s doing with talent management. Will he prioritize in-ring skills and athleticism like he did with NXT? He’s going to be a little more careful with the releases of talent? How Triple H’s leadership will affect the future of wrestling won’t be known for some time.

Looking Ahead: Where Do These Wrestlers Go From Here?

All the stars that are left have a bright future in front of them. Now they can look to other wrestling promotions such as AEW, Impact Wrestling or New Japan ProWrestling for opportunities. They could also start their own independent wrestling brand.

The WWE’s release of 2024 has caused fans to react in various ways. While some are disappointed in the loss of talented wrestlers, others are excited to see what the future holds for them outside of wrestling. In the coming years, it will be interesting to see how Triple H’s leadership affects talent management and if trends in annual releases continue.
