AMD launches Ryzen 9 3900 & Ryzen 5 3500X for OEMs

0

Finally after a lot of leaks and assumptions the Red team has launched the 12 core Ryzen 9 3900 and the 6 core Ryzen 5 3500X CPUs. Based on AMD’s breakthrough architecture i.e. the Zen 2 microarchitecture which is built on TSMC’s 7nm process, these CPUs also should provide you with amazing performance like its other Ryzen 3000 brothers.

Already we got a leak of the 12 cores and 24 threads Ryzen 9 3900 which seems to be perfect as we already expected. Being the toned-down variant of AMD’s best selling Ryzen 9 3900X, this CPU has a base frequency of 3.1GHz and turbo of up to 4.3GHz.

AMD launches Ryzen 9 3900 & Ryzen 5 3500X for OEMs

With a huge 70 MB of total cache memory, the lower clock speeds have helped it to shave 40W off its big brother’s TDP of 105W down to 65W. This also will eventually help users to overclock their CPUs even tough being cool and drawing less power.

The Ryzen 5 3500X is another offering by AMD which was also leaked previously and the specs seem to be the same. The new Ryzen 5 3500X is 6 core & 6 threaded CPU like its brother and with 65W TDP. It has a base clock frequency of 3.6GHz and a healthy boost clock of 4.1 GHz with huge 32 MB of cache.

AMD Zen 3 architecture could run four threads per core

Unfortunately, if you have thought to use these CPUs in your PC build then you will be disappointed because these CPUs will be exclusive to OEMs only. So you can get these CPUs used in pre-built PCs or gaming systems build by OEMs exclusively.

The Ryzen 5 3500X is will be exclusive to China, while the Ryzen 9 3900 will come in pre-built devices all around the world. Also, the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X and the 3rd-gen Ryzen Threadripper processors will land in November.

Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

0

Vivo’s new U10 with triple rear cameras, 5000mAh battery & Snapdragon 665 makes it the best option for budget smartphone seekers

We all know Vivo to be one of the best smartphone manufacturers in the world. Vivo has made an impact in India along with its brother Oppo in recent years, competing with the likes of Xiaomi and Samsung.

Vivo and Oppo along with Samsung were dominant in the offline market, until 2019 when it made a huge impact in the online market as well. Samsung’s cost-effective M series or Oppo’s K series have grabbed a significant amount of consumers. But in this online league, they have failed against the pre-dominant Xiaomi, Realme and Honor.

Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

This year, Vivo also stepped up the online smartphone market with the cheaper and value-for-money Z1 Pro or Z1x which are the mid-range smartphones. Now with the Vivo U10, the Chinese manufacturer is targeting the budget audiences at its price of ₹8,990.

Specifications:

  • 6.35-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720×1544 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9
  • Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor
  • 3/4GB RAM & 32/64GB inbuilt storage
  • Triple Rear Cameras: 13MP primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture; 8MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a third 2MP camera with an f/2.4 aperture.
Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials
  • An 8MP front camera with an f/1.8 aperture.
  • Funtouch OS 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie
  • 5000mAh lithium-ion battery with 18W fast charging

We have got a unit of this latest smartphone that is making an impact on the market, so here’s our full review:

Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

Design & Display

The design of the smartphone looks decent, though it doesn’t have a glass back yet on top of the polycarbonate back there’s a plastic costing that looks like a glass back. This adds to the style of the mobile, looks much more premium than the Samsung M10s or Realme 5 which have a polycarbonate back only.

The gradient colour of the smartphone blends with the design and the camera cut-out design to looks good. Even though carrying such a huge battery the smartphone feels light, the weight balance has been done properly. To sum up, this smartphone looks good and has a great design honestly.

Coming to the display which is 6.35-inch HD+ display is a common one in this segment and the quality of it is “just ok”. The panel is not a bright one like in Realme 5 or Samsung M10s but gets the job done, watching videos, playing games is soothing at high brightness.

One thing that has worried me is about the toughness of the display, this smartphone has no certification to be a Corning Gorilla Glass display. Testing with a tougher object got the smartphone a tiny scratch on the display which even lacks a film that comes applied after manufacturing.

So if you are planning to buy this smartphone, first get a screen guard and then use it to avoid any scratches on the screen itself. Also, use the TPU case or any kind of case while using the device because the plastic coating gets dirty while using bare hands.

Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

Performance

What really impressed me is the performance of the device, is powered by the latest Snapdragon 665 which is a slight upgrade over the Snapdragon 660. The new chipset is based on the 11nm process making it more efficient in day-to-day tasks.

Being clocked at 2GHz makes it slower to the 660 on the CPU front but the Adreno 610 is a major upgrade over the previous Adreno 510. While gaming or using apps I felt no log and the gaming experience considering this to be a budget device is awesome.

The 3GB RAM with 32GB storage might limit your app usage so you can get the 3GB/64GB variant or the 4GB/64GB variant.

Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

Cameras

One of the major highlights of this smartphone is the Triple Rear Camera which is a decent one. The 13MP primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture is not the best in the market but gets the job done, and also performs well in low-light conditions as well.

The photos captured produces good colours and shadows, the detailing of the pictures aren’t that great yet but they are pleasing considering this to be a budget device.

Portrait shots too are fair enough, the edge detections aren’t the most accurate like other devices in this segment. The 8MP wide-angle camera works well and does a great job while taking daylight and even night photos.

The selfies taken with the 8MP front camera is “good”, not the best out there but seems fair to its budget. The AI mode sometimes works well and sometimes just destroys the naturalness of the image. You can also capture 1080p videos at 30FPS using the rear camera.

Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

Battery & UI experience

One of the key features of the smartphone is the massive 5000mAh battery which easily lasts for a day and a half with heavy usage and even extends 2 days of battery life with moderate usage. The 11nm SoC is an efficient one, helping to get the max battery life from the huge 5000mAh battery.

Another good thing about the device is the 18W fast charger that comes pre-included in the box which in fact is rear in this price segment. The Vivo U10 gets fully charged in about 100 minutes which is great considering it has a massive 5000mAh battery.

What really spoils the show is Vivo’s Funtouch OS which looks cartoonish according to me, it is even poor than Oppo’s ColorOS or Xiaomi’s MIUI. The unnecessary app recommendations along with sloppy icons make it even worse, especially if you are a stock Android lover. If you can manage that then this is a great budget smartphone.

Audio and Connectivity

The bottom speaker grill produces enough sound to hear music or watch a video comfortably. It has a micro-USB port which is quite common in this range and the network reception of the device is also fair enough.

It also supports dual-band WiFi and it’s working great with the 5GHz WiFi band. Both the hotspot and Bluetooth works fine.

Pros

  • Faster Snapdragon 665 SoC,
  • Massive battery,
  • Great design and build,
  • 18W Fast charge support along with the charger.
Vivo U10: A solid budget smartphone for millennials

Cons

  • Display quality is average,
  • Sloppy UI,
  • Average cameras.

Overall this is a great smartphone by Vivo, one that is made for millennials who want great battery, decent camera and a faster processor. It has its flaws but the design of it along with its key specs make this smartphone a good budget option for many.

AMD launches Radeon RX 5500 Series GPUs for desktop & laptops

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT & Radeon RX 5500 7nm Navi 14 GPUs goes official – up to 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, 6.4 Billion Transistors

The Red Team has finally launched the much-awaited Radeon RX 5500 series based on 7nm Navi GPUs. AMD had an amazing 2019 for both its CPUs and GPUs, going 7nm for all of its new products that in turn gave us an incredible performance for desktop.

AMD also showed off their RDNA architecture when they launched the RX 5700 GPUs which made its mark in the market giving a stiff competition to NVIDIA’s RTX lineup even though being priced at $349 onwards. It was expected by the company to offer something cheaper for its consumers in the coming days.

AMD launches Radeon RX 5500 Series GPUs for desktop & laptops

Today at its auspicious 7th October, AMD has launched the RX 5500 GPU series that is built around a new, smaller Navi GPU that will allow AMD to bring their latest Radeon technologies down to more affordable, mainstream video cards, as well as laptops for the first time.

AMD is launching the RX 5500 series based on Navi 14 in three different parts, the Radeon RX 5500 XT, the Radeon RX 5500 and the Radeon RX 5500M. The first two of them are desktop focussed budget GPUs which directly competes with NVIDIA’s GTX 1650 and GTX 1660 series.

The Radeon RX 5500M is focussed towards gaming laptops and this will be the first time Navi GPU will be used on a mobile platform. This new GPU series focusses on smooth 1080p gaming at a budget range.

AMD even clarifies that the RX 5500 series aims for 60 fps (frames per second) in AAA games and 90-plus fps in eSports titles at 1080p, which is still a dominant resolution for most PC gamers. For both the Radeon RX 5500 XT and Radeon RX 5500 GPUs, we will only see GPUs from OEMs with custom cooling designs and clock speeds.

Navi 14: Smaller yet powerful

The Navi 14 is a very typical slimmed-down version of AMD’s leading-edge technology that is based on RDNA architecture. In terms of die size and transistor counts, AMD has dropped about 3.9B transistors from Navi 10, which comes to 38% fewer transistors overall. This makes the die size around 158mm2, almost 37% smaller than Navi 10.

Thanks to TMSC’s 7nm process, AMD has been able to stack more transistors in a small die. Compared to Polaris 11 (used in RX 460/560), the company has increased its transistor count by 113% while only increasing the die size by 28%.

Navi 14 is a full-fat Navi GPU in terms of architecture and features like its brother RX 5700 series. The Navi 14 GPUs will support PCIe 4.0 as well as AMD’s new display processing (Radeon Display Engine) and video processing (Radeon Media Engine) blocks.

The Navi 14 can support up to 5 monitor streams, on the other hand, the video processing block remains entirely unchanged from Navi 10 and should offer the same encode and decode performance as AMD’s higher-end cards.

Microsoft Surface Duo is a dual-screen smartphone we’ve all been waiting for

Out of the bunch of Microsoft phones, we have seen in the past including Lumia devices running on Windows which couldn’t maintain its run against the likes of Android and iOS. Already we are seeing the dual-screen Android smartphone from various companies this year, Microsoft has joined the race as well with the Surface Duo.

Microsoft has braced the Android platform for the first time for its unique dual-screen smartphone – the Surface Neo. Not much has been revealed about the device but all we know is that it sports two 5.6-inch screens that are joined together by a 360-degree hinge.

Microsoft Surface Duo is a dual-screen smartphone we've all been waiting for

It is not a foldable OLED display like the Samsung Galaxy Fold but it does offer you with the convenience of a dual-screen display along with the versatility of Android. Each of the displays can run its own apps and can expand to show more information across both of the screens.

When you have a phone call to attend, you can simply fold one of the screens behind the other to make the Duo easier to hold. As for now, it remains unclear whether you can fold a screen back to use a single screen for traditional Android apps.

Wired has pointed out that the device uses one of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipsets which is pretty decent for daily usage or heavy tasks as well. One of the biggest highlights of the Surface Duo is that it also marks a new era of partnership between Google and Microsoft.

During the launch, Panay showed us the Duo running on a custom version of Android that has been especially been optimized by Google to make use of the dual screens. Now you might be curious why Android and not the Windows 10X seen on the Surface Neo? Here’s what Panay has to say:

At the end of the day, where the applications sit today, the opportunity that people have already leaned into, that developers have already taken advantage of—it’s right there. And there’s a reality to that. To ignore that would be silly

Panos Panay

The Surface Duo will be available for the consumers in Holiday 2020, now presenting this device does it make any sense? Yes, it makes because this time will give developers the time to make impressive apps that can maximize and optimize apps for a fluid dual-screen experience.

The designing of the Surface Duo is not yet complete. When it was shown off, it lacked a proper rear camera and requires flipping the phone back to use the front camera for taking pictures. This likely seems to change and we could get a full-fledged Surface Duo with all features next year.

Microsoft’s focus is clear this time – maximize the productivity of a smartphone using two displays and effectively utilizing it via Android OS.

Microsoft Surface Duo is a dual-screen smartphone we've all been waiting for

Rather than clinging onto the classic computing concepts, Microsoft is looking at where the mobile industry is really moving this time.

We are yet to get the real taste of the Surface Duo but yes, with the preview what we can really expect is an exciting device rather than its old Lumia smartphones. How excited are you with this futuristic device? Tell us in the comments down below… 😁

Surface Neo will use Intel’s upcoming 10nm Lakefield CPUs with 5W & 7W TDP

0

The most innovative product that Microsoft introduced us recently is the Surface Neo which is a dual-screen hybrid computing device. It runs on Microsoft’s custom Windows 10X that perfectly helps this dual-screen computing device work effectively.

The Microsoft Neo features two 9-inch displays, a fold-out keyboard, a 360° hinge and is compatible with the Surface Slim Pen that docks on the rear of the device. Also, this is the first device that features Intel’s 11th-generation Lakefield processor based on the 10nm process.

Surface Neo will use Intel's upcoming 10nm Lakefield CPUs with 5W & 7W TDP

The Lakefield CPU features a primary Sunny Cove core, four 10-nanometer “Tremont” cores and Foveros 3D chip stacking technology. It will be accompanied with Intel’s latest Gen 11 integrated graphics. This mix of various CPU cores will allow small-form-factor devices to deliver both performance and power efficiency at the same time.

The Lakefield CPUs will have 5 W and 7 W thermal design powers (TDP), although Microsoft has not yet confirmed which variant it will include in the Neo.

Surface Neo will use Intel's upcoming 10nm Lakefield CPUs with 5W & 7W TDP

The Lakefield CPUs are very futuristic and they operate more like the ARM processors found in smartphones than the traditional CPUs that have been powering both laptops and desktop. Foveros is essentially an evolution of this 2D integration, in which other components can be stacked on top of each other in a form of logic-on-logic integration.

It’s packed with more than one type of CPU core to create a more stable and power-efficient system almost as we see in smartphone SoCs. Also, these hybrid SoCs can even come with their own integrated memory, I/O interface, wireless connectivity and integrated CPUs.

Surface Neo will use Intel's upcoming 10nm Lakefield CPUs with 5W & 7W TDP

Microsoft’s Panos Panay even said that the Lakefield chip for the Surface Neo has been specifically designed for dual-screen systems. Intel has managed to reduce the silicon size to a circuit board just half the usual size, the idea is making the device powerful even though being compact in size.

Microsoft has gone back to ARM chips for its Surface Pro X but with Intel’s 3D 10-nanometer tech, we will see more of this thin and pocket-friendly yet powerful devices in the near future. What do you think about the Lakefield CPUs? Tell us in the comments below. 😊

Microsoft Surface Neo is a foldable Windows 10X tablet that redefines computing

0

Microsoft in its annual Surface product launch event announced a new product that has completely stunned the world. This is a foldable tablet that runs on an advanced form of Windows 10 and will be powered by Intel’s upcoming Lakefield processors.

Microsoft Surface Neo is a foldable Windows 10X tablet that redefines computing

The Microsoft Surface Neo hopes to revolutionise the laptop market in the way that the Surface Pro series has done since 2012. The Surface series changed the way of two-in-ones and now when companies like Samsung & Huawei are focussing on foldable smartphones, Microsoft has stepped up the game showing this futuristic device.

We wanted to make you a product that felt smaller, that fit your lifestyle, but also in a big way that made you more productive and creative, We are currently only classing one as a 2-in-1, albeit in a new form factor

Panos Panay

The product is just 5.6mm thin and weighs 655g, packs its own 9-inch LCD screen, which Panay said to be the thinnest out there. The two separate displays are connected by more than 60 micro coax cables, which is said to thinner than a human hair, to create the interaction between the two of the screens.

When the Neo is fully unfolded, the combined screens measure about 13 inches diagonal, making the size of a 2-in-1 display. And there’s the new Surface Slim Pen that mounts magnetically on the Neo’s back.

Also if you really need to get some writing work done, you can always use an additional keyboard that unfolds to sit on top of the Neo’s second screen. Microsoft Neo runs on the Windows 10X which is basically built for lighter devices and foldable ones as well.

Microsoft Surface Neo is a foldable Windows 10X tablet that redefines computing
The Surface Neo is amazingly seek

The Windows 10X basically helps to maximize productivity by utilizing the two of the screens available. When you’re are using Windows 10X, the Neo can capably reflow apps running on one of the screens to fill both of them.

Now when you’re using the hidden keyboard, Windows 10X intelligently squeezes all of the content of your primary display and puts a “wonder bar” full of emoji and shortcuts within reach of those physical keys. This helps to focus on what you need and maximize the potential of this foldable hybrid.

You can even unfold the two screen and make a larger display, use it to watch movies or videos, use the larger screen and detach the keyboard and make it a mini-laptop. So, this Microsoft Neo is a very interesting futuristic device that is compact, powerful, portable and flexible.

The Neo is powered by Intel’s upcoming Lakefield CPUs, and we will tell you more about it n our next article. Sadly, this amazing device will not be available until late 2020, specifically during the holiday season according to Panay, also there’s no word yet on pricing either.

Microsoft launches the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 with AMD CPUs

0

Until a few days back we got some hefty leaks regarding the new 15-inch Surface Laptops powered by AMD CPUs. Microsoft has made it official that the bigger 15-inch variant of the laptop will be powered by AMD APUs made specifically for the Surface Laptop 3.

We ought to have guessed the mobile APU to be the Ryzen 5 3550U or Ryzen 5 3750U but it is even better. Microsoft has co-engineered with AMD to develop a custom Ryzen mobile CPU for its new 15-inch model. Panos Panay even claims that the Ryzen “Surface Edition” is the most powerful mobile CPU in a laptop available today.

You get two processor variants namely: AMD Ryzen™ 5 3580U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ Vega 9 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition & AMD Ryzen™ 7 3780U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ RX Vega 11 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition.

The powerful graphics here doesn’t make it a gaming machine but does let people play casual games like Fortnite and Overwatch. Like the 13.5-inch variant, this one too has a 15-inch PixelSense multi-touch display with 2256 x 1504 resolution with 201 PPI and 3:2 aspect ratio.

It is coupled with 8GB or 16GB LPDDR4x RAM along with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB removable SSD storage options. Speaking of ports we have: 1 x USB-C, 1 x USB-A, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and 1 x Surface Connect port.

Compared to the past Surface laptops and two-in-ones, the Surface Laptop 3 seems more repairable. You can just lift the keyboard layer off to reveal the internals of your laptop, making it easier for you to replace components like the M.2 NVME SSD drive.

The laptop Windows Hello face authentication camera for quick sign-in along with a 720p HD f2.0 camera. It features dual far-field studio mics and Omnisonic Speakers with Dolby Audio Premium.

The 15-inch model lacks the WiFi 6 feature which is exclusive to the Intel chipset but does have the Wi-Fi 5 i.e. 802.11ac compatible along with Bluetooth Wireless 5.0 technology. Obviously, it runs on Windows 10 Home OS and features a Firmware TPM security chip.

You can even expect a 20 per cent larger trackpad and has a fast-charging system that can give the laptop an 80 per cent charge in less than an hour using its typical charger, not the Type-C one.

Microsoft says that these laptops will give you up to 11.5 hours of battery life and has an Ambient light sensor. The Surface Laptop 3 just weighs around 1.5 Kg and will be available in 2 colours including Matte Black and Platinum.
