Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia expresses his view on the Mohun Bagan – ATK merger

The Mohun Bagan – ATK merger has been met with mixed reactions by former Mohun Bagan players

The much-awaited merger between two-times Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK and I-League giants Mohun Bagan finally took place on Thursday.

The newly formed club will come into existence from 1st June 2020 and will play in the Indian Super League (ISL) from the 2020-21 season. As per widespread rumours, the name of the new club will be ‘ATK Mohun Bagan Football Club’.

Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia, who played for Mohun Bagan for four seasons as a player as well as the captain said: “Why would you want to have its name ATK-Mohun Bagan? That does not go well. That branding has to be done properly. The deal was all about buying the identity and history. With that history, you will have millions of fans across the world. That you will have to keep in mind.”

“ATK are just five-six years’ old. It’s not a very old club. I don’t think ATK really have that identity. It started with Atletico de Kolkata, now it has become Amar Tomar Kolkata (ATK). I don’t think it will be a big loss for them if they lose that identity.”

“That (Mohun Bagan’s) identity should not go. I don’t think Sanjiv Goenka will do that mistake because for him buying Mohun Bagan is buying an identity. If he makes that mistake of losing that identity, that will be the biggest ever loss.”

“I hope that they use Mohun Bagan’s colour, logo, and the name. They should not use ATK’s colour, they should use green-and-maroon. They should use Mohun Bagan’s logo and name. Because it has got a rich history and heritage. I hope they can utilise that.”

“In fact, when I was ATK’s advisor I had actually first advised Sanjiv Goenka to buy out Mohun Bagan. Maybe the budget did not work out then. They were looking for investors. We had initiated the move then.

“I think Mohun Bagan have got a good owner. ATK are one of the best-managed teams of the ISL right now. Sanjiv Goenka is one of the most visionary, successful corporates in India. They have got a very good corporate takeover. They are the best-managed club in ISL right now. I think it’s a great move for Indian football.”

“East Bengal will also get there in a few years time. East Bengal anyway have got a corporate management (Quess). I hope the move will help and inspire.”

Subrata Bhattacharya, former India captain who played only for Mohun Bagan in his whole career said: “This was the only way ahead of them (Mohun Bagan officials) and they took a decision which was forced rather than spontaneous. I feel the path they have chosen will tarnish the tradition and identity of Mohun Bagan.”

“It is like someone buying my house and allowing me some space in the corner to stay. The club has been facing a paucity of funds for quite some time. I feel the members should have been entrusted with the task of finding a way out of the club’s financial distress. This proves the club was run by a few people and they have thought it best to sell its future”

Surojit Sengupta, one of the finest playmakers of India said: “For quite some time there were talks and speculations about the future of the two Kolkata giants (East Bengal and Mohun Bagan). I feel the decision by Mohun Bagan to merge with ATK is in the right direction. This is a decision to embrace professionalism and as a former Mohun Bagan player, I feel quite good.”

“Now that ISL is the premier league of the country, it cannot be thought without Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The decision by Mohun Bagan to accept ATK’s offer is a positive step towards the future. The Mohun Bagan officials are known to be rooted in conventions and that they have been able the break from tradition is a good step ahead. If you talk about the long-standing rivalry of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal then Mohun Bagan, with its latest decision, is definitely leading by a goal.”

Satyajit Chatterjee, former Mohun Bagan player said: “It is a historic decision. I am a part of the Mohun Bagan executive and I can say that this decision was taken to secure the next 25 years for the football team. This decision was taken considering the sentiments and beliefs of the millions of the clubs supporters and also at securing the future of the Mohun Bagan team.”

“I feel that the people entrusted with the task of running the Mohun Bagan club did well in sacrificing prejudice and self-interest in emerging at the decision. This is to ensure that Mohun Bagan continues in the same glory as it has done in the last 130 years.”

Mohun Bagan has merged with ATK and will play in ISL

Mohun Bagan will play in the ISL from next season after it merged with ATK.

One of the most historic clubs of Indian Football, 130-years-old Mohun Bagan FC will now play in the cash-rich top flight of India football from next season. The much-awaited merger between two-times Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK and I-League giants Mohun Bagan finally took place on Thursday.

This merger will see RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) group owned ATK hold 80% of the newly formed club while Mohun Bagan will own the rest of the 20% shares. The newly formed club will come into existence from 1st June 2020 and will play in the Indian Super League (ISL) from the 2020-21 season.

The new club will have the brand names of both previous clubs, ATK and Mohun Bagan. As per widespread rumours, the name of the new club will be ‘ATK Mohun Bagan Football Club’.

Sanjiv Goenka, chairman of the RPSG Group said: “RPSG Group which has a 200-year-old legacy is humbled and honoured to welcome Mohun Bagan with folded hands and open arms to the RPSG family. RPSG Group is known for acquiring and growing legacies such as the 120-year-old CESC, 150-year-old Spencer’s Retail, and the 100-year-old Saregama. Personally, it’s an emotional reunion for me as my father Late Shri R P Goenka was a member of Mohun Bagan.”

Swapan Sadhan Bose, Chairman of Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Pvt. Ltd. said: “As much as we want the romance of the Maroon and Green jersey and it’s 130-year-old tradition to continue, there comes a time when romance almost invariably requires a partner named practicality. To usher into the new era of football, you need bigger investments and a corporate force to take it forward. This is undoubtedly a harsh and the bigger truth.”

“In this context, I am very thankful to one of India’s most well-known industrialists and our Kolkata’s very own Dr Sanjiv Goenka for his investment through RPSG. AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT Flagship GPU spotted in EEC Registration

There have been speculations regarding AMD’s upcoming flagship Navi GPUs in 2020 and we have some solid leaks to justify the speculations as well. It has been a year since AMD has launched their last flagship GPU – the Radeon Vega VII and to give a tough fight to the market leaders NVIDIA, AMD is surely planning something in 2020.

Already the Red team has launched their new Ryzen 4000 mobile processors at CES this year and it seems they are planning big on the graphics front as well. A mysterious AMD RX 5950XT was recently spotted getting EEC certification by the tipster Komachi and there we see four new AMD GPUs.

AFOX who is a board partner of both AMD and NVIDIA has submitted multiple GPUs including the flagship Radeon RX 5950XT, Radeon RX 5950, Radeon RX 5900 and the Radeon RX 5800 for EEC filing. Now the question arises whether this is the promised “Big Navi” GPU or not.

In this CES 2020, Dr Lisa Su, CEO of AMD had mentioned that the Big Navi is happening soon:

I know those on Reddit want a high end Navi! You should expect that we will have a high-end Navi, and that it is important to have it. The discrete graphics market, especially at the high end, is very important to us. So you should expect that we will have a high-end Navi, although I don’t usually comment on unannounced products.

A few days ago we had seen an Open VR benchmark that shows an unknown AMD GPU beating NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, it could be an unreleased graphics in an external GPU enclosure or it could be the Radeon GPU running in CrossFire or the speculated Big Navi.

If we go by the OpenVR benchmarks, we see a 15% better performance than NVIDIA’s flagship: the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. These Navi GPUs in 2020 might be based on 2nd Generation RDNA Navi GPUs as well with hardware-level integration to support ray-tracing.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona: The date has been confirmed for this season’s second El Clasico

LaLiga president Javier Tebas made the El Clasico announcement at an event in London on Wednesday.

LaLiga have confirmed the date for this season’s second El Clasico. El Clasico is one of the most-watched football matches all over the world. So the coming El Clasico has been handed a Sunday evening slot unlike the previous one. The match timing has been picked to ensure maximum global exposure on television.

La Liga president Javier Tebas confirmed that the El Clasico will be played on 1st March 2020 at Real Madrid’s home ground, Santiago Bernabeu. It will kick-off at 21:00 local time, ie 8 pm UK time. Although, football lovers from Asia will have to stay up late at night as it will kick-off at 1:30 am IST on 2nd March 2020.

Tebas said: “It will be 8pm UK time and I think there aren’t any other matches at this time so it will be a great slot. We want to be as visible as possible and we are getting there.”

Barcelona have an away clash against Napoli on Tuesday, 25th February and Real Madrid play at home to Manchester City the following night, 26th February.

As things stand now, Barcelona lead the way in LaLiga, but they are only ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference, with both sides sitting on 40 points from 19 matches. So the coming El Clasico can prove to be a title decider.

It will also be the 1st El Clasico for Barcelona’s new coach Quique Setien, which adds more excitement to the fixture. He will have a real test in hand against Zidane’s men in their own backyard.

Lionel Messi admitted that the ‘special duel’ between him and Cristiano Ronaldo will ‘remain forever’ in people’s minds

The two of the greatest ever footballers to have graced the field – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – are sadly nearing the dawn of their careers. Both of them have defined this generation of football. They have won almost everything among themselves.

For over a decade, Messi’s Barcelona used to face Ronaldo’s Real Madrid, before Ronaldo moved to Juventus in 2018. The duo was engaged in an era-defining rivalry, scoring 39 goals between them in El Clasicos between 2009 and 2018. It was always a ‘special duel’ in El Clasicos.

Messi and Ronaldo made football’s highest individual honour, the Ballon d’Or their own. They have won the prize a combined 11 times in the last 12 years.

Now, Messi and Ronaldo play in different leagues, conquering their individual leagues with their teams. But Messi fondly remembers the old times.

Messi told Dazn: “Obviously when Cristiano was at Real Madrid the matches were always special. The matches against Real always mean a lot, but when Cristiano was there they became much more special.
But it’s a time that has passed now, that we have experienced. Now we have to look ahead to the future.”

“It was a special duel and it will remain forever because it lasted many years and it is not easy to maintain certain levels for a long time. Plus, the teams we played in were also very demanding, both Real Madrid and Barca, the two best in the world.”

MediaTek is known for its powerful and efficient SoCs at a significantly lower price than Qualcomm. Earning its respect from the Helio P series and the newer Dimensity series, MediaTek is being competitive to the Snapdragon chips off recently.

Last year they also announced the powerful Helio G90 and G90T gaming SoCs which indeed was a success and it powers the popular Redmi Note 8 Pro. There remains no doubt that MediaTek has announced the Helio G70 and Helio G70T chipsets for budget gaming smartphones.

The HyperEngine helps the processor to handle CPU and GPU resource allocation more intelligently and dynamically. It also improves the power efficiency for better battery life while gaming. This technology is also present in the G90 gaming SoC series as well.

Talking of specs, the G70 is a 12nm octa-core chipset with two high-performance Cortex A75 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, and there are the six efficiency Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The G70 series only supports eMMC 5.1, not the faster UFS storage.

On the graphics front, we have the Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU running at 820Mhz. The chip has display resolution support up to 1080p, tall aspect ratios up to 21:9 are also supported. The Voice on Wakeup feature enables voice assistants with minimal power use.

The G70 chipset also supports HEVC/H.265 encoding and decoding and supports VP9 decoding which is great since most major streaming services, including Netflix who are planning to move onto VP9 for encoding their streams.

The ISP inside the Helio G70 supports up to single 48MP camera or up to two 16MP cameras and video capture up to 1080p/60fps. The NeuroPilot engine is there to handle AI tasks like object and scene recognition, bokeh enhancement.

The chipset has a modem capable of both dual 4G VoLTE and 300Mbps downlink and there’s support for Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0. The Chinese media claims that the MediaTek Helio G70 will be used in smartphones priced under CNY 1,000 i.e. around $145/ Rs. 10k.

UEFA have revealed the Team Of The Year 2019

European football’s governing body UEFA have announced the Team Of The Year 2019, which was selected by fan’s votes.

The UEFA fans’ Team of the Year 2019 has been revealed on Wednesday after more than 2 million fans cast their votes over the course of six weeks.

This time the Team Of The Year is dominated by players from the Premier League. Six Premier League players are in the team, out of which five players are from Liverpool, who won the last edition of the Champions League.

Liverpool players – Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane – dominate the Team Of The Year. They are all part of the current Liverpool team who dominated Europe last season and have been leading the Premier League title race by a huge margin this season.

Last season’s breakthrough team Ajax who defeated Europe’s big teams, Real Madrid and Juventus also have two of their former players – Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs De Ligt – in the Team Of The Year.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the everpresent duo have once again made this Team Of The Year. They are definitely from another planet and no one can reach their level. They have made this feat of getting included in the Team Of The Year a normal thing, which for other players is an achievement.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski complete the Team Of The Year XI.

Some additional key facts about the UEFA Fans’ Team of the Year 2019:

There are seven newcomers in the line-up – Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Matthijs de Ligt, Andy Robertson, Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski and Sadio Mane.

For the first time, Liverpool have the most players in the team with five.

The Netherlands is the most represented country with three players.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included for a record 14th time after helping Portugal to win the inaugural edition of the UEFA Nations League.

Lionel Messi has been included for the 11th time after becoming the first player to score in the UEFA Champions League in 15 successive seasons.

Matthijs de Ligt at 20 years, is the youngest player in the XI.

Xiaomi introduces the new Mi Portable Wireless Mouse at ₹499

The tech giant Xiaomi has introduced a lot of accessories in India including mobile accessories, wearables, home electronics and much more. In 2020, Xiaomi seems to step into India with its wide computer peripherals and even laptops in China, the first step is its new Mi Portable Wireless Mouse.

This is a minimal looking wireless mouse has been priced at just Rs. 499 and will be available in two colours: black and white. The mouse is identical to ones in the market but looks sleek and has a plastic body with a lightweight build.

Xiaomi says that the curves of the mouse will give a perfect fit within the user’s palms for maximum comfort. There are the regular left and right-click buttons which seem long enough and obviously, there’s a mouse-wheel.

This is just another basic wireless mouse aimed for basic use, not gaming as there’s no option for DPI adjustments and it is fixed at 1200DPI for the mouse. The polling rate is also fixed at just 125Hz and the mouse connects over a 2.4GHz RF network.

Like any other wireless mouse, you have to plug the USB receiver into your laptop or PC to use the mouse. The Mi Portable Wireless Mouse weighs just 56g which indeed helps to give you a better hand feel and it uses a single AA battery which Xiaomi claims to last 12 months without needing a replacement, great on the battery life!

Jeff Bezos’s Amazon to invest $1Bn to digitize small businesses in India

In its event Amazon ‘Smbhav’ held in New Delhi, he made a major announcement that would support Indian MSMEs. Yesterday, Amazon made it clear that they would invest $1 billion in digitizing small and medium businesses (SMBs) on its platform in India.

Speaking in the‘Smbhav’ event, Jeff Bezos said that Amazon would support SMBs to export their products. It’s no brainer that the rise of e-commerce sites have led to a huge impact on small businesses and shops, with everything going online people are relying more digitally on these days.

Bezos has announced that the e-commerce giant, through its global footprint, will help SMBs export products worth $10 billion by 2025. The initiative taken by the company will bolster the growth of the Indian economy, but how?

Amazon would be building ‘Digital Haats’ in 100 cities, villages, and communities to help the businesses integrate into the digital economy. The concept is unique which will help boost shops and businesses in the neighbourhood, Digital Haats will be available to MSMEs irrespective of their association with Amazon.

A company statement said. “We are going to use our global footprint to export 10 billion dollars of Make-in-India goods by 2025”, he said. Bezos even said that the main objective behind the support is that the business with SMBs in the country has been doing well. “Because it’s working, and when it’s working, you should double down on it”.

It is a fact that those businesses that have got associated with Amazon have been able to bolster their growth in the past few years but those who are not “digitally able” to get on Amazon, this step will have a huge impact on small and medium businesses.

Talking more about the Indian market and entrepreneurs, Bezos is determined that the 21st century will be the century of India. “I predict that 21st century is going to be the Indian century”, he said, recognizing the fact that apart from the dynamism which India has, it is the democracy which is a major characteristic of the country.

In terms of alliances, Jeff believes the 21st century would be about the bilateral relations between the US and India. In the coming years, this major step can have a bigger impact on the Indian economy as SMBs are very important parallelly to the e-commerce platforms.

Now, being much more power-efficient from before, AMD’s chips are being implemented into the mini-PCs and Zotac is doing the same by featuring the older AMD Ryzen 3 3200U APU onto its new ZBOX Nano mini-PCs.

Intel NUC kits are quite famous among its users including home and office users, AMD is now convincing the customers of its own chip powered mini-PCs. Even though in 2019, AMD had a tough time in managing OEMs to make mini-PCs based on their own processors but things have changed in 2020.

With the new and revolutionary AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors featuring the strong Vega graphics has got the attention of the SFF PC builders and among them is Zotac. The new ZBOX Nano series focuses on really small form-factors and the company has announced only one AMD powered model.

It is only powered by the modest Ryzen 3 3200U APU with two cores and four threads, hopefully, with time, we will see more models with Ryzen processors. This 15W processor has 2.6GHz base clock speed and a boost up to 3.5GHz, 4MB L3 cache and support for up to 32 GB DDR4-2400 RAM via 2x SO-DIMMs.

The integrated AMD Radeon Vega 3 Graphics is quite strong to handle daily tasks and casual gaming as well. On the storage front, we have support for a 2.5-inch SATA drive along with an M.2 slot for PCIe NVMe SSDs. There will be two models of the ZBOX Nano mini-PCs one with the fan which is slightly longer and bulkier and the other will be fanless.

On the rear panel, there are 4x USB-A 3.0 ports, dual GbE jacks along with wireless antenna support, and DP + HDMI ports while on the front panel we have 2x USB-C 3.1 ports and another USB-A 3.0 connector, mic/headphone jacks and an SD card reader. The fanless one integrates with 4X USB-A 3.0 + 1x USB-C 3.1 connectors.

For now, no word on price and availability has been disclosed by Zotac, obviously, the Zotac ZBOX Nano mini-PCs will be available in the coming months but we also expect more variants with the new AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs later this year.
