HTC Desire 20 Pro schematics showing a quad camera setup

0

Reports suggest HTC is still alive and is working on HTC Desire 20 Pro. Famous leakster @evleaks has shared the schematic of the phone and it looks quite promising. The phone is codenamed as “Bayamo”. The phone will follow the recent trend and will have a punch-hole design during the final launch.

The phone has a simple design with a punch-hole camera at the front and quad-camera setup at back. If the patent schematic is correct then the phone will come with a flat-screen display unlike the curved screen trend nowadays.

According to reports and Geekbench the phone will feature Snapdragon 660 (or 665), which was connected to 6GB of RAM and will support Android 10. Though it is still not final which chipset will be used in the device, as the reports suggest the chipset is not up to the mark for a current generation smartphone especially in a Pro model.

The phone can also feature a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device. From the image the power button and the volume rockers are visible on the right side of the device. The final design of the smartphone can be different.

Why the blue team is making things harder to switch to Intel CPUs?

0

Intel is losing its control over the desktop CPU market for over a year now and that includes a lot of reasons. With specific to the newly launched 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs, I would discuss the bitter truths of the blue team’s platform off lately.

Some of its pros remain as Intel has been the champion in making CPUs for ages now but with technological advancements it has lost some of its grounds to its arch rival AMD.

I will not directly do a face off between the two but lay some general reasons why Intel is making things harder for general users to prefer its CPUs:

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority
via The Verge

It’s 2020, still the same old 14 nm archiecture?

One of the biggest frustrations with Intel you might have is it’s still using the age-old 14 nm process when the whole industry is shifting to 10 nm or 7 nm process, even 5 nm process will make its way next year if everything goes fine.

In this scenario, Intel is still clinging on to its old tech and just using its ‘tic-toe’ scheme to making newer generations of CPUs. Obviously using an older node will not increase efficiency or power draw and will bring no “significant” performance uplift.

Why the blue team is making things harder to switch to Intel CPUs?

Also older architectures increases power consumption, gives rise to many security flaws, AMD jumped off in 2017 with 14 nm and shifted its gear to newer nodes every year. The switch to 7 nm changed its fortune overnight and the industry is widely adapting its tech, its revolutionary Zen 2 architecture is making the sole difference.

Intel is missing on this front, they are not doing anything “revolutionary”, fans gave choices these days to switch between so people understand what’s trending and what’s not. Even mobile SoCs are adapting to lower process nodes to achieve better results.

Why the blue team is making things harder to switch to Intel CPUs?

Another generation, another new socket

The biggest flaw Intel is forcing to its users is adapting to newer sockets with every generation of motherboards. This increase costs to upgrade your CPU with each generation which Intel does never understand, this year too they’ve announced the new LGA 1200 socket.

All of the new 10th Generation Intel chips require new motherboards like the Z490 for high-end, B460 for mainstream, and H410 for budget users. The costlier Z490 boards will launch first with the cheaper motherboards to follow soon.

Why the blue team is making things harder to switch to Intel CPUs?

So if you want to upgrade your Core i7-9700K powered PC to achieve an average performance boost of around 15% by getting hold of the Core i7-10700K, you have to spend half of the cost of upgrading your machine to get some more frames per second.

I am not saying bringing newer tech is bad but keeping cross-compatibility with the previous generation of motherboards help users to easily upgrade its CPUs later, people cannot just make new PC builds every year? People are not billionaires Intel, think logically.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority

Why the focus remains only on gaming?

Intel has been pushing its limits on single-core frequency just to improve its gaming performance. But until now they were putting limits to their cores and threads and as we know most of the creative applications use more cores and threads, professional workloads require high performance CPUs.

Here’s where AMD’s cheaper solutions with more cores and threads are making the difference, games only use max four cores at a time whereas professional works like video encoding, rendering, editing, developing complex applications and games require more horsepower.

CES 2020: AMD’s monstrous 7nm 64-core Threadripper 3990X is here

I genuinely appreciate Intel’s approach of adding more cores and threads but in this case AMD’s beefier chips like Ryzen 9 3900X or Ryzen 9 3950X with huge amount of compute performance give extra benefits to users who require it. Until now, no one could have think get so much horsepower all at once but yes they can do on desktop these days.

AMD’s Threadripper CPUs perform even better for humoungous workloads at suitable price points. Even though Intel claims to provide better professional performance this time, but still AMD’s extra cores and threads along with efficient 7 nm process and PCIe Gen 4 advantage will tempt users to opt for the Red team.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority

Pricing still favours AMD

Intel’s pricing of the new 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs are just but its motherboard and cooler disadvantages make things even worse. AMD’s commitment to AM4 socket is driving more and more users to them with no hassle during the upgrade and Intel should think likewise.

The blue team might say they’ve reduced the price significantly, like the Core i9-9900K successor, the Core i9-10900K is $11 less than the predecessor with 2 more cores and threads. Intel is going head-to-head with AMD after a year with similar price points but the downside is the AMD Ryzen 3000 prices will decrease even more.

AMD Ryzen 3 3300X destroys the Intel Core i7-7700K in Geekbench scores

AMD’s new Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X are just superb for the entry-level enthusiasts so in coming days the cheaper B550 motherboards will arrive and so will the Zen 3 based Ryzen 4000 desktop processors at Q4 of this year most likely.

So even if Intel has a few months, where people are struggling in lockdown across the globe, to be happy soon AMD will bounce back.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to manage Tottenham Hotspurs once again before he dies

0

Tottenham Hotspurs sacked Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019 as he was unable to deliver a trophy during his time at the helm and the club was struggling in the bottom half of the table this season. They appointed Jose Mourinho in his place.

Pochettino had spent five years at Tottenham. He led them to top-four Premier League finishes in four seasons and also reached the Champions League final last year.

He is now without any club and has been linked to a return to the Premier League with Newcastle United, who are set for a change of ownership. But Tottenham Hotspur still remains “deep” in his heart.

Mauricio Pochettino

Pochettino said to BT Sport: “It was an amazing journey that finished in a way that of course, no one wants to finish. But deep in my chest, in my soul, in my heart, I am sure that we will cross again. For sure, from now since the day I left the club, my dream is to one day be back and to try and finish the work we didn’t finish.”

“We were so close to winning the right trophies. The Premier League and Champions League, we were very close. We stopped this way now.”

“Of course I am looking forward to moving on and I’m so motivated for the next project. But, deep inside, I would like one day to be back [at Spurs]. The club is special, the fans are so special.”

He further added: “Maybe in five years, maybe in 10 years, but before I die I want to manage Tottenham again and try, if possible, to win one title. I want to feel what it means to win one title with Tottenham because the fans are amazing.”

“All the love we received was amazing and that [winning a title] is a good opportunity for all the love they showed us from day one.”

Amazon launches ‘Pay Later’ service in India

0

Amazon India introduces a financial service that allows users to but products and pay the bill later. This service is similar to Flipkart’s Pay Later service that announced back in 2019. But obviously Amazon brings additional benefits to rule the market.

Registered Amazon users can order any product from the app, no matter it comes under groceries or some other categories. Amazon will pay the amount at that time and the user needs to pay the due bill to the next month. A user can also pay once at the end for all his/her orders throughout the month.

Amazon-India-Pay-Later-2_TechnoSports.co.in

Rather than the one-time payment, users can also go for the EMI option. The amount can be split among a maximum of 12 months. The buyer needs to bear interest on the amount. Though it will happen only if the product doesn’t come under no-cost EMI offer. The insert will vary as per the product cost and the number of months.

The credit limit is ₹60,000 max which is much more than Flipkart’s limit. A user can buy any product of cost between ₹1 to ₹60,000 under this policy.

To start shopping under Pay Later benefit you need to complete your KYC registration from the Amazon mobile app. The eligibility will depend upon your previous track record with the company like your credit history, previous purchases, account information, and more.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel’s priority

0

Finally today on April 30th, the much anticipated Intel 10th gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs have been announced after a long wait as it launched its 9th gen back in October 2018. Leaks were true so far as its true that Intel will be offering up to 10 cores this time but the 14nm lithography is still there to bother you.

Interestingly, Intel has widened its lineup and has gone head-to-head with the Red team’s Zen 2 based CPUs. The blue team is again offering more cream on some previous cake for you but still do not deliver that spark that AMD brought to the market.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority
via The Verge

Recently, they launched the Comet Lake-H CPUs for gaming laptops and their main priority was the high single-core frequency at the cost of higher TDP. As previously thought, Intel will be showing off its gaming performance dominance over its competitor without any ‘actual improvement’.

There are a lot of CPUs in the Core i9, i7, i5, and i3 lineup but the showstopper will be the Intel Core i9-10900K, a 10-core, a 20-thread chip with a max boost clock speed of 5.3GHz across two of the 10 cores. Still, this is a fair improvement over Core i9-9900K with 2 more cores and 2 more threads with some higher clock speeds.

If there are any pros in this humongous lineup than that will be the increase in the number of cores, threads and clock speeds and yes, the prices have dropped significantly. Yes, the Core i7 CPUs will also be boosted up to 5.0GHz, the Core i7-10700K with a 125 W TDP offers 8 cores and 16 threads with a 5.1GHz turbo clock speed.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority
Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority

The top-of-the-line Core i9-10900K will be costing you $488 whereas the Core i7-10700K which is almost a 9900K will cost you just $374. The cheaper Core i5-10600K which is unlocked CPU has 6 cores and 12 threads with a boost clock speed of up to 4.8GHz at just $262. This is evident Intel is now lowering its margin to save its shares from being eaten away by AMD.

Like what they did with the Comet Lake-H gaming processors, Intel has implemented the Turbo Boost 3.0 technology and the “Thermal Velocity Boost”. These features will help these new CPUs achieve higher clock speeds if it is at a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius or lower and has some power left to draw.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priorityIntel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority

Now, the Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs have support for up to DDR4-2933 memory, Wi-Fi 6 comes by default with these chips and support for up to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet. Another advantage of these CPUs are that most of them feature Intel’s integrated UHD Graphics 630 except for the F-series ones.

One thing to be noticed is that there’s a lot of power draw for the overclockable CPUs while most of them have a frugal 65 W TDP. So, as Intel these days do not ship CPUs with coolers, users have to buy an aftermarket to get the full advantage of these processors.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority

Intel says to tackle the extra thermal load, Intel has added a thinner level of silicon and thickened the copper IHS (integrated heat spreader). So, when paired with a soldered thermal interface solution, it will lead to lower temperatures across the motherboard, although this is a theoratical concept.

As the title says, Intel is betting more on the single-core frequency as they think games over the next couple of years will still remain as single-threaded applications, stating that 60% of all PC games currently are.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority

Comparing with last-gen, Intel promises better gaming performance and also claimed that the Core i9-10900K is going to be the best processor for gaming. The company even citing a jump of 33% framerate boost in Mount & Blade II Bannerlord and 13% in Monster Hunter Iceborne games.

Even though AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors will complete its first anniversary in July, still Intel’s new CPUs lag behind in certain areas which I will get to you in my next post, stay tuned!
