Microsoft’s Surface Duo 2 will reportedly be running on Snapdragon 888 and Android 11

We have already seen the designs of the Surface Duo 2 and it will simply look elegant when the product will hit the market. However, there was no news about the internal specifications of the device.

But a recent benchmark has revealed some partial information regarding what sort of hardware the dual-screen device will sport, and the information does not disappoint.

On the Geekbench 5 listing, the Surface Duo 2 obtains the same score as a device running a Snapdragon 888. according to sources, the device in question is running Android 11 and sports a total of 8GB RAM. Microsoft is yet to announce as to whether it will introduce Android 12 as the future update, or if it will sell the Surface Duo 2 in higher RAM configurations.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 Plus is a much more powerful chipset than the Snapdragon 888, however, according to reports Microsoft will not opt for that due to thermal constraints. The Surface Duo 2, just like its predecessor, could be featuring an extremely thin form factor, and due to limited space compromises will be made.

However, still, there are insignificant differences between the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 888 Plus, to the point where users will probably never notice them in real-world tests, so it will not matter. But the success of Microsoft’s Surface Duo 2 will depend on whether Microsoft can address the current limitations and issues of the original Surface Duo.

Microsoft’s first-generation dual-screen device lacked NFC, and the customers were complaining about build quality issues ranging from the crooked fingerprint reader to the raised glass front and breaking of the plastic frame. Hopefully, Microsoft does not receive the same complaints when the Surface Duo 2 launches.
