“Pati Patni Aur Woh Do” Review: Sharp Wit, Chaotic Fun, and Ayushmann at His Best

Director Mudassar Aziz brings back the spirit of Bollywood’s beloved situational comedy genre with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do — a four-hero, completely bonkers comedy of errors that takes a little time to ignite but absolutely delivers once it does. If you’ve been on the fence, here’s your honest breakdown.

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do: Film Overview

What’s the Story?

Forest officer Prajapati Pandey (Ayushmann Khurrana) has a comfortable, sorted life with his wife Aparna Trivedi (Wamiqa Gabbi) — until his long-lost friend Chanchal Kumari (Sara Ali Khan) makes an unexpected and chaotic reappearance. Aparna’s best friend and Prajapati’s colleague Nilofer Khan (Rakul Preet Singh) then gets unwillingly dragged into the mess. Secrets pile up, situations spiral beyond all control, and what follows is a full-blown comedy of misunderstandings, chase sequences, and confusion centred entirely on ‘Praja ke pati.’

What Works

The film’s sharpest weapon is its dialogue. Witty, precisely timed and consistently funny, the one-liners land without ever feeling forced. Clever references to iconic songs and films from the ’90s and early 2000s add a warm nostalgic layer that genuinely enhances the experience.

Crucially, despite a title that could have gone in a regressive direction, the film stays completely away from misogyny or cheap humour. Mudassar Aziz handles the situational chaos with real craft, keeping the comedy clean without dulling its edge. The screenplay manages a four-lead ensemble impressively, weaving character interactions and misunderstandings into a narrative that picks up real momentum once it finds its rhythm.

Ayushmann Khurrana is the undisputed soul of the film — effortlessly charming, perfectly timed, and completely at ease in the role. Sara Ali Khan brings infectious energy every time she’s on screen. Wamiqa Gabbi holds her own with warm chemistry opposite Ayushmann, and Rakul Preet Singh delivers a more layered and confident performance than many might expect. The supporting cast — Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vijay Raaz, Ayesha Raza, Durgesh Kumar — are exceptional and consistently elevate every scene they’re in. What Doesn’t

The opening 15–20 minutes feel stretched, and first impressions may mislead you into thinking the film won’t deliver. Hold on — it genuinely gets better. The Prayagraj setting also feels a touch too polished on screen, losing some of the raw regional texture the story deserved. Accent inconsistencies across performances, while minor, do occasionally break the immersion.

Final Verdict

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is a clean, witty, enjoyable ride that rewards patience. Director Mudassar Aziz deserves real credit for keeping the humour smart and the nostalgia well-placed. It’s not a perfect film, but it’s exactly the kind of undemanding, genuinely funny comedy Bollywood doesn’t serve up often enough.
