However, an official announcement regarding the specific DC OTT release date is still awaited, meaning eager viewers will need to keep an eye on Sun NXT’s official channels for updates in the coming weeks.

About the Film

DC is a 2026 Indian Tamil-language romantic action thriller directed by Arun Matheswaran and produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, loosely adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel Devdas. The film marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut as a lead actor, a significant moment given his stature as one of Tamil cinema’s most successful directors, known for hits like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.

The film released globally in theatres on August 7, 2026, after securing an ‘A’ certification from the Censor Board. In North Indian markets, the film is being distributed by Dharma Productions, giving it wide reach beyond its home Tamil-speaking audience.

The Story Behind DC

Lokesh Kanagaraj plays Devadas, a feared, rage-filled gangster navigating a dangerous criminal underworld plagued by police brutality and systemic corruption, while his complex relationship with Parvathi, played by Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, drives much of the emotional core. Wamiqa Gabbi stars opposite him as Chandra, completing the film’s central love-triangle dynamic rooted in the timeless Devdas narrative.

Early Reception

The film has generated considerable buzz since release. 123telugu.com rated the film 3.25 out of 5, praising it as a gripping mass action drama, while other early reviews have highlighted strong action sequences and Wamiqa Gabbi’s performance as standout elements. The film collected around ₹4.1 crore net in India on its opening day alone, reflecting healthy audience turnout for Lokesh’s unconventional career pivot.

Why the Wait for OTT Details?

It’s fairly standard practice for Indian films to delay confirming a specific OTT release date until the theatrical run shows signs of slowing down, typically allowing 4-6 weeks of exclusive cinema screening before moving to digital platforms. Given DC’s strong opening and star power, expect Sun NXT to announce the exact streaming date once the box office momentum settles.

What to Expect on Sun NXT

When DC does arrive on Sun NXT, subscribers can expect the full theatrical cut, including Anirudh Ravichander’s composed score and the complete 2-hour 23-minute runtime, giving those who missed the cinema experience a chance to catch every action sequence and emotional beat.

Final Thoughts

While the exact DC OTT release date remains under wraps, the confirmation of Sun NXT as the streaming home gives fans a solid starting point. With strong opening numbers and positive critical buzz, DC looks set to have a healthy theatrical run before making its digital debut—so streaming fans should stay tuned for an official date announcement soon.
