Google announces its new cloud gaming project named Stadia that allows you to play games on any device at up to 4K resolution at 60FPS. But is it worth the hype?

The Tech giant who has become a part of our daily living has announced a whole new innovative product named Stadia. This is a simple yet complex project that allows users to game on any device via the browser at up to 4K 60fps.

Sounds interesting right? We have already seen the demo of this project at CES 2019, where AMD showed off their collaboration with Google to deliver incredible GPU bound performance on their servers to deliver incredible gaming performance to users to their very own device.

What is Google Stadia?

Google Stadia is a project developed by Google with over 5 years of hard work. Stadia is a simple cloud gaming platform, where users can play a game on any device including smartphones, tablets, PCs, laptops and TVs.

At the GDC 2019, Google unveiled this new service to the world for the first time ever. Their main focus is to bring in more and more gamers to enjoy gaming at the fullest even if you do not own a high-end gaming PC or laptop or own a gaming console.

Internet Connectivity

You just need to have a browser and open the Stadia website to enter into the whole new ecosystem of gaming. This will require you a high-speed internet of 25Mbps to access the heavy games at 1080p on to your streaming device at zero lag.

Google will be using its own compression technology to stream games in 1080p or 4K to devices, and some of the typical latency will be reduced by having the game client and server on the same machine.

Google has been integrating with major ISPs to provide better communication with the Google Datacenters where the games are actually running. But it is impossible to integrate with all ISPs and help users to get a good bandwidth of over 25Mbps.

Specifications of Google Stadia Hardware

Google will be running the games on their own data servers. They haven’t yet upgraded their CPUs that hints us to believe that they will be using the Intel’s Xeon chips to drive the horsepower.

As the new game titles are heavily GPU bound, Google has been in deep development with the Red team i.e. AMD, who also power the modern gaming consoles visually.

Google’s servers will be able to deliver 10.7 teraflops of GPU power, which is more than the 4.2 teraflops of the PS4 Pro and the 6 teraflops of power on the Xbox One X.

Each Stadia instance will also be powered by a custom 2.7GHz x86 processor with 16GB of RAM.

Image Quality is dependent on the Internet

Google has promised to provide rich graphics quality for every kind of device including basic graphics for smartphone, 720p or 1080p graphics for laptops or PCs at 60fps. For TVs or giant monitors, there are a whopping 4K 60fps supports as well, which they promise to deliver up to 8K 60fps in future.

Honestly, the total power used by Google is impressive but the end result is totally dependent on the internet speed. Google will compress the image from its servers to your client, resulting in a loss of image quality.

We don’t know the exact bitrates that Google will use for Stadia but it will surely consume a lot of data of users for smooth gameplay.

YouTube will enhance Stadia

Game streaming has become a separate industry for gamers to earn revenue. Viewers including kids watch, interact and chat with their favourite game streamers and enjoy the time.

Leveraging Stadia with YouTube will help viewers to directly face off with their favorite gamers using Stadia’s own cloud gaming platform.

With Crowd Play feature, Streamers will be able to create lobbies for fans to join and play with them on YouTube, and Stadia will support instant clipping to the video service.

This is a cloud game console is typically built for the YouTube generation, and it’s Google’s big advantage here.

Gaming

Google is using Linux as the operating system powering its hardware on the server side. One of the first games to be launched on Google’s Stadia service will be Doom Eternal, that supports the 4K resolution with HDR, at 60 fps.

The game Doom Eternal does not have any firm launch date just yet, but it will also be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Stadia will also implement a full cross-platform play, so that developers can enable cross-platform multiplayer and game saves and progression.

Google will also be partnering with Unreal and Unity game engines to widen its platform versatility. Even middleware companies like Havok have been partnered with, but there’s going to be some lifting involved for developers to get games onto Stadia.

For a better future, Google needs to convince big publishers to sign up and launch games on their platform, but it has failed to detail how much it costs to develop, publish, and run games on Stadia.

For game developers, Google also unveiled an impressive way to apply their own design style to titles on Stadia. This is a machine learning-based style transfer tool that developers can simply use to drop an image into the video frames of games and have it mimic the style throughout.

Google is using something called State Share feature to allow gamers to easily share moments, so you can even share an exact link to a part of a game as well.

The new Stadia Controller

Google has developed its own gaming controller for playing games using Stadia. It looks similar quite in between an Xbox and PS4 controller, and it will work with the Stadia service by connecting directly through Wi-Fi to link it to a game session in the cloud.

This will help reduce latency and moving a game from one device to another will be more sophisticated and easy as long as the device and controller remain connected to the same WiFi network. You can also use a button to capture and share clips straight to YouTube

It is even possible for you to stream games on YouTube while playing games on Stadia using your controller. If you get stuck while playing any game use the Google Assistant button to call the Assistant, who will help you find content that will help you with that game.

Google launches its own Game Dev Studio

To expand its portfolio and make a better future for Stadia, Google has also launched its own Game Development Studio for Stadia-exclusive titles, Stadia Games and Entertainment.

An own game studio will help Google to make more intuitive games for gamers with different genre so that gamers cannot get bored. Also this will help Google to customize other games exclusively for Stadia and bring it to gamers.

The Cloud-Gaming Competition

This cloud-gaming concept is being adopted by a lot of tech giants like Microsoft, Sony and even Amazon. Microsoft has already started planning its own ProjectxCloud game streaming service, which they demonstrated recently, with public trials set to start later this year.

Amazon with its huge cloud computing resource is also eyeing to make a move to make such a cloud gaming server, as it has also recently upgraded its data servers with 2nd gen AMD EPYC processors.

Sony has also acquired game streaming service Gaikai to turn it into PlayStation Now, and it even acquired rival OnLive only to shut it down. Also, Sony and Microsoft’s huge library of games will help to offer gamers with lots of games to choose from.

Manchester United preparing a €70m bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho

Manchester United have started their pursuit of signing Jadon Sancho and plan to sign him in the summer despite strong interest from PSG.

Jadon Sancho is one of the most exciting talents in Europe right now. The former Manchester City winger has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season in Germany, playing 34 games for Borussia Dortmund and scoring nine goals and have 15 assists. He left Manchester United’s cross-city rivals in 2017 in order to secure more game time and has flourished in the Bundesliga since then.

Sancho has also since broken into Gareth Southgate’s senior squad and has four caps for England. He was previously the captain of the England U-21 team. He starred for England in their 5-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win against Cezch Republic at Wembley on Friday. It was his first competitive start for his country. Sancho was the creator for Raheem Sterling’s opener at Wembley on Friday, playing a low ball across the box that was turned home by the winger.

Multiple reports suggest that Manchester United officials have met with Sancho’s representatives with the Premier League club ready to bid €70m for the forward. PSG are also keen on landing Sancho though and are preparing their own bid for the former Manchester City man this summer But it is thought that Sancho would prefer a return to England, his home country, rather than going to France.

Dortmund sporting chief Michael Zorc recently said the club were ‘definitely planning for next season with (Sancho)’ but The Sun claims the winger is at the centre of a tug-of-war between Manchester United and PSG over a summer move.

The interest from Manchester United for Sancho is reportedly coming in the wake of them dropping their interest in FC Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho. Coutinho has struggled to find his best form in Spain, and the Catalan giants could be tempted to sell him should they receive a suitable offer.

Barcelona willing to sell Coutinho if they are offered more than €80m

Barcelona are ready to receive offers for Philippe Coutinho if they are offered a bid upwards of €80m.

Philippe Coutinho shone for Brazil in the 2018 World Cup and is one of the best attacking midfielders currently. But he is clearly struggling at Barcelona. Coutinho has been in and out of the starting lineup this season and he was even booed by his own supporters during a 3-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano. He seems unhappy at the Catalan club. The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a summer move away from Barcelona and PSG looks like his most realistic destination, though Manchester United are also interested in him.

“Barcelona do not have a firm offer from any club at this point, but some have expressed an interest in the player,” a source at the club told ESPN FC. “Key people, who are either directly or indirectly linked with various clubs have been following the situation closely.”

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the Brazilian, while a return to Liverpool has also been reported in some quarters. But a switch to the Premier League is not currently a realistic option for Coutinho.

The Ligue 1 club are the only European giant outside of England’s top-flight that have the financial means to afford the player’s wages. He is worth €2.3 million a month before tax. The opportunity to team up with his international teammates Neymar, Thiago Silva and Marquinhos is also likely to appeal to him for joining PSG.
The other European giants, Juventus have already signed Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal. Bayern Munich also have negotiated with Real Madrid for buying James Rodriguez. And a move to Real Madrid seems very unlikely. So Coutinho’s most realistic destination is PSG.

Barcelona had signed Coutinho from Liverpool for €120m in January 2018, but are willing to sell him for a significant loss at €80m upwards. He was expected to replace Neymar and form a formidable attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. But his career has not gone according to the plan. This season he has made just 16 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the league and he hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes since January.

Coutinho is determined to stay at Barcelona and revive his playing career. But this option doesn’t seem likely. He has failed to convince Ernesto Valverde that he should be a first-team regular starting every week and thus is set to consider his future once again in the summer.

Despite his issues on the pitch, it is understood Coutinho is considered a popular member of the team. “He is generally a very happy player who enjoys training, but when he goes onto the pitch, something happens and it doesn’t go well,” the ESPN source added. “He has more than enough quality to be a starter and we hope he regains his confidence.”

The fact is, though, that if he doesn’t get more playing time in the starting XI and is unable to make a significant impact before the end of the season, he is likely to find himself in a position where he will be moved out of Camp Nou, with PSG his most likely destination.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced Dream11, India’s biggest sports game, as the Official Partner for the VIVO Indian Premier League.

This four-year exclusive partnership will begin with the upcoming IPL 2019 season. Additionally, the ‘Official Fantasy Game’ of IPL will also be powered by Dream11.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that IPL Official Partner TATA Motors will promote their newly launched SUV – Harrier as their lead brand for the VIVO Indian Premier League 2019.

The recently launched Harrier will leverage the IPL platform to showcase the SUV, engage fans and deliver memorable experiences to them.

This collaboration between India’s biggest cricketing event, IPL, and India’s biggest sports game, Dream11, will provide a platform for millions of fans to create their own fantasy cricket teams thereby deepening their engagement with their favourite sport. There will also be several Dream11 brand integrations and on-ground activations at various touchpoints during the VIVO IPL matches.

Commenting on the partnership, Harsh Jain, CEO, and Co-Founder, Dream11 said, “We are very excited to partner with the BCCI and provide an engaging cricketing experience for the IPL, which is the pinnacle of sports leagues in India. Two days before the opening encounter of the 12th season of IPL, CSK and RCB began preparations at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore had a training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, two days ahead of their opening encounter of the 12th season of the Indian Premier League at the same ground.

The RCB team lead by Virat Kohli arrived Chennai on thursday and immediately took to the nets for the training session.

The players of both the teams practiced at the same time under floodlights at the iconic stadium. Skipper Kohli and MS Dhoni took out to time to meet each other, before the start of vivo ipl 2019.

Kohli was seen practicing in the nets and smashing a ball miles outside. It is seen in one of the videos shared on RCB’s official Instagram account.

CSK, who won the title last year. Their third in 9 seasons so far(as they were banned for 2 seasons), will hope to add their fourth this year. RCB have not yet won a title. It is Kohli’s captaincy that is coming into question ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

The 30-year-old will be eager to silent the critics by leading the franchise to a maiden title.

The clash between CSK and RCB is expected to set the tone for the 12th edition of IPL for the rest of the season.

Kohli has played 163 IPL matches. Kohli has scored 4,948 runs at an average of 38.35. The RCB skipper has four centuries and 34 half-centuries to his name.

Dhoni has been the skipper of CSK from the inaugural season of the lucrative tournament. While Kohli took over as the captain of RCB from 2012.

CSK and RCB will play the first encounter of IPL this season against each other on Saturday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The game will resume from 6 pm.

Iker Casillas to end his career at Porto and is convinced that his teammate Eder Militao will succeed at Real Madrid

The Spain World Cup winning captain, Iker Casillas has signed a new two-year contract with Porto. He is also convinced that his Porto teammate Eder Militao will succeed at his old club Real Madrid.

Iker Casillas has won every trophy possible as a football player. He has won the 2010 World Cup with Spain and also two EURO Cups in 2008 and 2012. He has 167 appearances for Spain. He also won every trophy possible at the club level with his old club Real Madrid, including the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga. Casillas joined Porto in July 2015. He is in his fourth season at Estadio do Dragao, where he has won the Primeira Liga and Portuguese Super Cup since his arrival. He will turn 38 in May and his new deal – one year plus an option for another – could take him to the age of 40, when Casillas says he will retire from professional football. Casillas has also been honoured by including his name in the LaLiga Icons recently.

Casillas told the club’s official website after Wednesday’s contract announcement: “Today is a very special day. I feel at home in this club. When they gave me the chance to renew, I did not hesitate. My commitment is with the club, with the city, with the president and my fellow team-mates. I want to stay here until I finish my career as a footballer.
I have great memories of great matches for Porto. The victory in Luz last season, by the way it was achieved, is perhaps the one that had the biggest mark on me. When I came here, many thought it would be to play a year or two and finish. I have only words of gratitude to this club – not only to the club but to the city itself.”

Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa said the 2010 World Cup winner continues the club’s tradition of goalkeeping excellence. He said: “Casillas is a world football figure. Porto has always had great goalkeepers. Iker Casillas is in line with the extraordinary goalkeepers Porto has always had and we are sure that we will always continue with great goalkeepers.”

Eder Militao signed for Porto in August 2018 and has already caught the eye of the footballing world. Real Madrid has announced the signing of the 21-year-old Porto defender, Eder Militao on 14th March, for a reported €50million, with the transfer to officially go through on 1st July.

Casillas told reporters at the LaLiga Icons event: “It’s fantastic management by Real Madrid. They’ve taken a very good player with a huge future. I’m convinced he’ll succeed at Real Madrid.
Porto gambled on him when he was very young and he showed a big personality. He’s very noble and wants to do things the right way, I’m just a little afraid for his adaptation because in Spain it’s different. I always tell him that when he arrives in Madrid, he’ll realise what it means.”

When asked about Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Casillas went on to back his former teammate to succeed again. He said: “I love Zidane returning. I’m very happy about it, but it’s clear that his arrival, like [Santiago] Solari’s before, means that things haven’t been going well. But Zidane’s arrival is a reason for hope and energy for all Madridistas after everything he achieved in recent years.”

Bayern Munich planning to make a move for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale

German champions Bayern Munich are reportedly leading the race to sign the Real Madrid winger, as Gareth Bale is almost certain to leave the Bernabeu in the summer.

Gareth Bale has a contract till 2022 with Real Madrid, but he has fallen out of favour with the Real Madrid fans. He was tipped to succeed Cristiano Ronaldo in the Bernabeu. But he has miserably failed to fill the huge gap left by Ronaldo when he left for Juventus in the summer of 2018. It’s pretty much a tough task to replace someone with Ronaldo’s stature. But still, he was expected to lead Real Madrid to some extent at least. His inability to do so along with his frequent injuries has left the Real Madrid faithfuls frustrated. Now with Zidane back and signing Hazard finally looking like reality and the form of teenage sensation Vinicius Junior leading to an extended period on the bench, it’s almost certain that Gareth Bale will leave the club in the summer.

According to TEAMtalk, the Bavarians were made aware of Bale’s availability during talks over the future of James Rodríguez, whose two-year loan deal comes to an end in the summer and Madrid are reportedly keen to sell him. With Franck Ribery’s future uncertain and Arjen Robben leaving the club in the summer, Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac could see Bale as a viable option to bolster his squad’s attacking options.

An unnamed source told TEAMtalk: “This is a transfer that appeals to all sides, and to the player himself — who wouldn’t want to play for Bayern Munich? Real and Bayern have a good relationship, and this a deal that could get done.”

Bale is one of the highest paid players in world football, and Bayern Munich are one of the few clubs who could get close to agreeing on a deal with the Welshman. He reportedly has high wages, as high as approximately €409,000 per week. It is unclear what type of transfer fee or loan agreement would be in place for Real Madrid to move Bale, who reportedly also has a release clause of €517M, which would assuredly be waived in any transaction.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing Gareth Bale, but can they afford Bale’s high wages is what remains to be seen. Former Portsmouth and Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp suggested that Bale would have to take a hit on his wages should he want a return to the Premier League. He told Mirror: “It’s not nice when you get grief from the fans. Nobody likes to get grief like that and I’m sure it’s no different for Gareth. He is a fantastic player, who can play anywhere, and it would be no surprise if the top clubs like Man United and Spurs were interested in signing him.
But on the wages he is said to be on, he would probably have to take a pay cut. Take, for example, if he was to go back to Spurs. It could create a problem because someone like a Harry Kane is there and is the top man. He’d perhaps want the same type of wages if it was being offered.
So, that’s a decision Gareth might feel he wants to make if he does want to come back. Let’s face it, he’s made a lot of money playing football and could no doubt afford to.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is in no hurry to sanction a sale of Bale as he is very fond of the player, but returning coach Zinedine Zidane is open to his departure – given the club are already focused on completing a deal for Eden Hazard this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo can face Champions League ban for his ‘cojones’ celebration

Cristiano Ronaldo faces an improper conduct charge from UEFA before Juventus resume their bid for Champions League glory against Ajax next month.

European football’s governing body UEFA charged Ronaldo with “improper conduct” on Monday and he could now face a ban from his side’s Champions League quarterfinal final first leg against Ajax.

Ronaldo scripted a fairytale comeback from being 0-2 down in 1st leg to win the Round of 16 tie 3-2. He scored twice with towering headers before converting a penalty in the game’s dying minutes to send Juventus through to the quarter-finals. After completing his hat-trick, Ronaldo repeatedly thrust his hips in the direction of the crowd in celebration. The ‘cojones’ celebration was thought to be a jibe at Atletico boss Diego Simeone, who celebrated in similar fashion after Atletico’s 1st leg victory.

An official statement read: “Following a disciplinary investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector, disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Juventus Football Club and Club Atletico de Madrid, played on 12 March in Italy.
Charges against Juventus Football Club:
– Improper conduct of player Cristiano Ronaldo – Art. 11 (2) (b) and Art. 11 (2) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will deal with this case at its next meeting on 21 March.”

If UEFA founds Ronaldo guilty then the 33-year-old could face a ban for one to three games, but a fine is more likely. Simeone was also charged for his gesture against Juventus in the 1st leg and was subsequently fined €20,000, rather than serving a touchline ban. So Juventus will also expect the striker to receive a similar punishment.
