11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake Core i3-1115G4 to still remain dual-core in 2020

0

Soon, Intel will be launching their 11th Gen Intel processors, rumored to be on September 2nd, these CPUs will still be based on 10nm++ process with some improvements over last-gen, obviously. New leaks have started coming out about these processors and thanks to @TUM_APISAK for the new Core i3-1115G4, which does seem underwhelming.

With Tiger Lake, Intel kept their core count to 2 cores, knowing how competitive the market has become and thus charging more to make laptops even more costly just for the sake of “10nm efficiency” which is just a business joke. One of the reasons why AMD is now deepening its notebook market because of Intel’s astronomically high prices on notebook processors.

Still, everyone hoped at least if we could get a quadcore Core i3 Tiger Lake processor, but it seems wrong, Intel will stick to 2C/4T this time as well. The Core i3-1115G4 seems to be clocked at 3.00 GHz, now that’s unclear whether the CPU will be operating at that base clock speed or it will actually have a turbo boost frequency or not. But, most probably due to architectural changes, the CPU might be having a single high clock speed.

On the other hand, it’s clear that Intel will implement new Willow Cove CPU cores along with Xe graphics and PCIe 4.0 support. Although we see the L3 cache to be increased to 6MB, 2.25x larger Level 2 cache and it seems exciting on paper but realistically 2 core and 4 threads in mobile these days look delusive in 2020, Intel has to step up in terms of performance to catch up with AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors.

Also, the price will matter a lot of considering the fact that AMD now has both the cost-efficient Ryzen 3000 mobile chips and the high-performance Ryzen 4000 processors. Hopefully, the mystery will be solved on September 2nd by Intel itself and we will see these CPUs perform in real life.

BCCI under pressure to terminate contracts with Chinese funded companies

The India-China tension is nowhere near the end. All the Chinese and Chinese funded companies have come under criticism and social media backlash.

Indian Premier League (IPL) title sponsor VIVO has already pulled out from the IPL 2020 edition while terminating the whole contract with Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). It has seen major chaos unfold after the Chinese smartphone manufacturer pulled out of sponsorship contracts.

Now, according to a report by Inside Sport, RSS affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) wants BCCI to drop IPL Central sponsors and Indian cricket sponsors like Byju’s, PayTM and Dream11 among many other Chinese-funded companies.

SJM is going to start a ‘Quit China’ movement from Sunday and will protest against IPL sponsors with the Chinese connect. According to a report by Outlook, BCCI will be among the main ‘targets’ for the SJM unit.

Dhananjay Bhide, a senior office-bearer of the Manch, told Outlook that the campaign is an attempt to add muscle to the concept of an ‘Atamnirbhar Bharat’ and drive a strong message to agents who continue to tow the Chinese line despite government appeals.

Bhide said: “Cricket has to choose between a self-reliant India and sponsors with Chinese money. Our campaign against BCCI will now gather steam. Players wear the tricolor on their helmets and represent India on the international stage. How can they so easily ignore the movement against Chinese businesses in India?”

Most private companies refuse to divulge details of Chinese investments but according to market estimates by Inside Sport:

1) Byju’s Edtech company – They are currently BCCI’s and Indian Cricket’s Jersey partner. Byju’s has a Chinese investor in the form of Tencent. According to a few reports, 3% of the company is held by Tencent.

2) PayTM is both the title partner of BCCI for the Indian cricket’s home matches and they also are the Central Partner on IPL. As per a few estimates, 55% of PayTM is held by different Chinese companies. ANT Financial, Alibaba are some of the Chinese funds who have invested in PayTM over the years.

3) Dream11 has received $100m funding from Chinese company Tencent. Tencent now reportedly holds 20% stake in the company.

BCCi is looking for sponsors to replace VIVO as the IPL 2020 title sponsor. They have contacted many companies like Reliance Jio, TATA and Amazon among many others.

Amazon has somewhat shown interest in the matter but hasn’t told anything officially. Amazon spends a huge amount of money on advertisements in festive seasons. IPL 2020 is just before the Diwali from 19th September to 10th November. So they may probably like to take this opportunity to sponsor IPL 2020 and be prominently visible throughout the tournament.

AMD trying something new? AMD files a patent that shows hybrid computing design similar to ARM’s big.LITTLE

0

The Red team seems to make something for the future of its mobile computing as the US patent uncovered by the tipster @Underfox3 shows that AMD is working on a hybrid computing design. This is quite similar to ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, wherein the high-performance cores are paired with power-efficient, low-performance cores.

This is a similar approach that most mobile mobile SoCs implement these days, helping to save battery life and be much more efficient overall. Obviously, AMD’s patent regarding hybrid computing CPU architecture makes a significant impact and raises lot of speculations in the computing space.

The patent that was filed by AMD with the US Office of Patents was of last July describing it be “A heterogeneous processor system includes a first processor implementing an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) including a set of ISA features… lower-feature second processor is configured to execute an instruction thread by consuming less power and with lower performance than the first processor.”

AMD trying something new? AMD files a patent that shows hybrid computing design similar to ARM’s big.LITTLE

If you notice the last few words of the patent, it has been stressed on the fact that there will be a lower-feature second processor which will be executing instruction thread by consuming less power and with lower performance than the first processor. The description and the diagram attached simply explains the fact AMD is trying to implement ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture.

Both these processor seem to have their own L1 Cache, but have shared access to the high-speed L2. Undoubtedly, this will be a challenging task for AMD to implement in the x86 space both in terms of hardware and software integration, but ultimately this is the future as we intend to make processors much more efficient than before.

Now, it will be interesting to see whether AMD’s BIG.little kind of architecture uses the traits of its existing Zen architecture or adapt to a completely new one. Also, how will be AMD designing this “little cores” will be a thing to notice in future and whether this kind of approach will be restricted to laptops or be implemented into desktop processors as well.

More hints for the next Realme C series smartphone

0

Madhav had already hinted the nearing launch of a new Realme C series smartphone. In his previous tweet yesterday he had hinted the massive 6,000mAh battery incoming for the new device. For this tweet Madhav has focused on the camera portion of the device, mainly the rear snappers.

To say about cameras, the new “C” phone of Realme might come with more than two cameras. We know that the Realme C15 will come with four cameras, but we do not know how many rear cameras will Realme C12 have. This one might be the Realme C12 with triple rear cameras as the phone has also appeared in the BIS certifications.

BIS certification included the model number RMX2189 which is of the Realme C12. Previously the brand has also launched the C11 in India and now the C12 seems to be an upgraded version of the C11.

Our recent article mentioned that the Realme C12 will come with a 6,000mAh battery like the Realme C15, but this one will be an intermediate between the Realme C11 and 15, both in price and specification.

Realme C12 is already certified in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and China, and these are the main markets of the brand in all over the world. The next platform will be India, but the smartphone has not appeared in the BIS certification yet. The phone has been spotted with charging rates of 5V at 2A, or just 10W, and this is not fast charging.

Apple Silicon powered MacBook may not be launching this October

0

There have been multiple rumors and leaks about the upcoming MacBooks, powered by the Apple silicon but there seems to be a new twist to this tale. Apple has taken a decisive decision to drop Intel and make products based on its own chip, giving themselves for flexibility and ultimately helping to make an ecosystem of ARM-powered devices.

We have heard some aggressive leaks about both the ARM-based 12-inch MacBook and the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a suggested launch date of sometime in October. On the other hand, the iPhone 12’s launch still remains to be in next month, there seems to be uncertainty over the MacBook front, which was scheduled to be launch in a second event slated in October.

But, now, according to the tipster @komiya_kj, there will not be any unveiling event in October, however, the Cupertino giant was confident during its 2020 WWDC keynote that the first ARM-based MacBook would arrive later this year itself.

Obviously, this single tweet can have a lot of sides to it – maybe Apple will not be doing any formal launch but restrict it only to a press release and a blog announcement. Although it seems very unlikely that Apple will not be doing a formal launch as it will mark the company’s first own chip powered laptop.

Apple introduces the first 8-core MacBook Pro up to Core i9

Also, it might be possible that the Cupertino giant’s plan has taken a hit due to the pandemic and its hardware might or supplies might not be ready, but having the specs and pricing leaked already, it doesn’t make any sense to not to make any announcement. Apple could obviously do launches as it does in its certain timeline but might delay the availability a bit, but it’s true that for the first time, people are much more excited for the ARM-based MacBook.

Both the 12-inch MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro will be eye-catching this time for its specs, performance, and pricing. So, as for now, you can take the leak with a pinch of salt and wait for these new MacBooks to get announced sooner or later.

Huawei Desktop specs leaked: 24 core Kunpeng Platform & Radeon 520 graphics

0

Huawei is a tech superpower in China and it looks like it wants to change the desktop experience in the country as well. The well-known smartphone maker will be launching Huawei desktop computers in their native country soon.

The leak comes from a Weibo user, and as Gizchina reports, the desktop will feature 24-core Kunpeng platform along with a dedicated graphics card in the form of AMD’s Radeon 520.

The Huawei desktop consists of an internal code of Pangu. The report also says that initially there wi be only one model using the self-developed 24-core Kunpeng platform. Huawei is also said to have put an 8GB notebook memory along with 512GB Samsung SSD & AMD’s Radeon 520 graphics card.

It’s also been speculated that the processor’s multi-core performance is comparable to that of the Intel i9-9900K. Last year, Huawei launched the Kunpeng 920 desktop motherboard which supports all the major components but was available for corporate users only.

That platform featured a quad-core or eight-core ARM processors along with 64GB DDR4-2400 RAM. Huawei can easily integrate any OS on the platform based ARM processors. This Huawei desktop will be exclusive for government and enterprise customers only. It is also reported that the desktop will be running on the domestic UOS system and cannot install Windows.

Much like any other OEM desktop, this one will also not support any kind of expansion. So it will not support other types of graphics cards, and even the CPU motherboard cannot be removed.

Huawei will also be equipping the desktop with a 23.8-inch display which has a 70% NTSC color gamut and a standard FHD resolution. Much like other commercial desktops, this one too will feature three USB-A and one USB-C ports and a headset port on the front.

There will also be an optical drive on the front while for the rear I/O panel there will be four USB-A interfaces, a network cable interface, and a VGA interface. Huawei is said to be launching a desktop PC for 7500 yuan ($1061) on a ‘mysterious platform’. The CPU model is said to be the Huawei Kunpeng 920 2249K, which will likely be soldered directly into the motherboard.

It will be paired with a 16GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB SSD. The motherboard will feature four memory slots with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. The desktop will also come with a PCIe 4.0 graphics card slot. On the other hand, the graphics card will be the Yeston RX 550 with the operating system being UOS.
