50 years of Paris Saint-Germain

French club Paris Saint-Germain has crossed 50 years of legacy this week. The club was founded 12th of August 1970 after the merger of Paris Football Club and Stade Saint-Germain. PSG made an immediate impact by winning the Ligue 2 title in their first season and gaining promotion to Ligue 1.

Sadly, their momentum was soon stopped as the club split in 1972. Paris FC remained in Ligue 1, while PSG was administratively relegated to Division 3. PSG got their revenge in 1974 when they returned to Ligue 1 and Paris FC slipped into the division below.

PSG won their first major honour, the French Cup, in 1982, and their maiden Ligue 1 title in 1986. 1990 was among the most successful periods in PSG’s history. They claimed their 2nd league title, 3 French Cups, 2 League Cups, 2 French Super Cups, and, most importantly, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1996.

After suffering a decline in fortunes during the 2000s, the club has enjoyed a revival since 2011 with increased financial backing. The club has won 7 league titles in the last 10 years. It shows their complete domination in their domestic league.

The club has also seen some legends of this game playing for them. Big names like Ronaldinho, David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has played in their jersey.

In 2017 they bought Brazilian sensation Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior in a world record fee of €223m from Barcelona. PSG is now a European giant with so many talented players in the team in likes of Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler, and many more.

This year they are in the semi-final of Champions League and hope to win their first-ever European highest club honour in the memory of club’s 50th anniversary.

0

After losing to Bayern Munich by 8-2, the Cantabrian coach will be sacked and the Barcelona board meeting has taken place today where there were a number of options like Pochettino, Koeman, and Xavi. Now, as per previous rumors, Ronald Koeman is the right man for Barcelona as he was previously spotted in Barcelona and arrived on a private flight.

In the board meeting today, Setien’s dismissal has been finalized and according to Fabrizio Romano, Ronald Koeman has been chosen by the board. The Dutchman will be leaving the Netherlands national and will be joining Barcelona in their difficult times.

Koeman is a proper candidate for Barcelona as he one of the great legends in the history of the club, where he was from 1989 to 1995. Soon, after his agreement with the club, he will be officially announced as the next manager of the Blaugranas and he will be coaching the team but it will be interesting to how he handles the sunken ship of the club.

The Dutch team international has been a familiar face to the club during his stay at the club and is fond of the Cruyff style of play, also a figure that Messi will be happy with playing under. Ronald Koeman has won nine of his 14 competitive games as the Netherlands manager, one fewer than his four predecessors put together (10/20 with Hiddink, Blind, Grim, Advocaat).

Previously too Barcelona thought of appointing him but he was too busy preparing for the national team but now due to the pandemic the situations are different now. So, it will be a new test for the Dutchman to bring peace at the club make changes to the team to bring back the glory.

Has Microsoft made the case for Xbox Series X?

0

Previously Xbox showcased a gameplay demo of Halo Infinite in Microsft much-hyped event- a very sensible prospect, to be fair, but one which you will be able to play on Xbox One. A teaser reveals for a new Fable that, while cute, had little to add to the rumors of its existence that have circulated for years. Stalker 2’s debut trailer turned out to be a target footage.

Forza Motorsport was presented as a graphics demo with an ominous note that it was “early in development”. Rare’s Everwild, on second showing, remained relatively mysterious as it is lovely to observe. Xbox Studios prospects State of Decay 3 and Avowed got CG teasers only. Overall, they all were lacking off gameplay footage – and, to our utmost dilemma, we still can’t be sure that we have seen a game running on Xbox Series X.

In other words, we can say that the show was missing was a graphical showcase, as we see in the E3(or in this case, the not-E3) just before a new console launch. Sony provided us that, even if mostly for undated games in the form of Horizon: Forbidden West and Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart. But Microsoft’s Halo Infinite underwhelming looks didn’t exactly stun people with visuals.

It doesn’t seem to be as the Xbox Series X showcase at all but it seemed like a Game Pass showcase. Nor can we be very sure whether we need to buy an Xbox Series X to play games like  Forza, Everwild, and Avowed. As they will all get a PC version which is not at all astonishing.

Although the hardware reveal went well but yet we have to see anything that shows those majestic stats in action, and corporate strategy seems once again to be getting in the way of what players want to see and hear.

He joined Belgian club Anderlecht in a player-manager role. On Monday, Kompany has announced his retirement from football as a player. He will now fully focus on being a manager. He has signed a four-year deal with Anderlecht.

Vincent Kompany joined Manchester City from Hamburg in 2008 for a reported fee of around £6m. Does Messi lacks the leadership quality? Barca youth should show up

0

There have been a lot of speculations in the media recently because of the humiliating match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals in Lisbon. However, we saw a different Barca and a different Messi there against the Bundesliga champions.

Messi has taken the responsibility as a club captain since the departure of Iniesta for about 2 complete seasons but his role as a captain can be questioned from the last game. Even though he has won La Liga once in his leadership, but he failed to bring Champions League cup two times.

The leaked images after the halftime when Barca was losing by 4-1 says a lot actually. We see a dejected Messi and an unfamiliar Ter Stegen whereas the Argentine should have energized the players to fight back. His reactions and feelings lost the game to Bayern, who according to De Jong, was not superior by quality but by the intensity.

Still, there was hope when it was 5-2 but eventually, the squad didn’t find any motivation to play, lacked the positivity after the repeated waves of attack from Bayern. Whereas there was a different scenario at the substitute bench with young energized players like Monchu, Riqui Puig, Araujo and others.

When the team was being humiliated with a goal after goals, these players were banging their benches still Setien didn’t provide any opportunity, only except Ansu, which was too late. The Cantabrian coach himself had his job at stake but didn’t bring on Ousmane Dembele, showing he also lacks the leadership qualities to lead a team like Barca and make the right calls at the right time.

The youth needs to be given the regular opportunity and should be mixed with the “aged Barca squad” to bring dynamism on to the play. There are a lot of potentials who step up from Las Masia but end up getting sold due to lack of opportunities, this needs to change immediately. Signing big players and making nothing out of it has become a part of the board and this makes Bartomeu equally responsible for the failures as well.

As Pique said after the match, there should be changes at the club and he himself offered his position for sacrifice to the youth to step up. The club needs major changes from coach to the board, we hope this bitter defeat brings a lot of changes with Barca fans have been asking for since ages.
