TSMC gains $72 billion in shares this week: briefly becomes the world’s 10th most valuable company

0

The Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC is making records each day in terms of revenue. It gained a massive amount of revenue last quarter and its promising progress in silicon fabrication has made it a perfect place for investment.

So, the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer has witnessed a something unimaginable, this week its shares got a boost of a whopping $72 billion. As Bloomberg reports, TSMC on Tuesday (28th July), briefly became the world’s 10th most valuable corporation.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

The Taiwan’s biggest stock jumped by 1.2% in Taipei, after rising as much as 9.9% and went beyond $410 billion in market evaluation. It defeated U.S. giants like Johnson & Johnson and Visa Inc. in the process. The daily stock moves are capped at 10% in Taiwan’s equity market.

TSMC’s progress in silicon fabrication has attracted a bunch of investors across the globe. It’s a 7nm process to 3mm process, TSMC is in another dimension with its development in the 2nm process as well, making it’s future much more secure than ever.

Obviously, TSMC has played a major role in Taiwan’s economy and the financial market as a whole. The company itself has pushed the Taiex past a record that had stood for three decades.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

Foreign investments have been poured into Taiwanese equities, which in-turn has increased the demand for the local currency. The Taiwan dollar rose 1% on Tuesday to the strongest since April 2018.

Unsurprisingly, this huge bump in share comes as just after last week’s announcement from Intel that its 7nm production is behind schedule and it may have to outsource its production. This may open up a new business for TSMC and in-turn has led shareholders to pour money into Taiwan’s biggest semiconductor company.

Not only TSMC has witnessed this surge but also other chip manufacturers like Samsung Electronics and China’s SMIC received 5.8% and 6.6% boost in shares, respectively. Meanwhile, rumors even suggest that Intel has already placed orders with TSMC for 180,000 units of 6nm chips for 2021.

Mi 30W Wireless charger is now available on Mi.com

Back in May, Xiaomi announced its Mi Wireless Charger of 30W and now made available in India through its official website mi.com. The company revealed this news today (28th July) on Tweeter. Here are the key points of the charger.

I already mentioned about the 30W fast charging facility. Besides, as it has the Qi-certification, all the Qi-enabled devices can be charged through it. But in that case, the charging speed will drop to 10W. Charging your device without removing the case is also possible. But for that, the protective case must be made with non-metallic material and have a thickness of 3mm.

Xiaomi gives this wireless charger an intelligent tilt design. They believe this will help consumers to watch videos, check messages, and do more easily. For a better grip, the bottom part is made of silicon footpad that doesn’t slip.

There is also a built-in cooling fan that helps to manage the heat throughout the charging cycles. As per the company, the fan can hold the temperature below 38 degrees Celsius vehicle charging. This is one of the safety measures.

There are four more safety layers included in the charger. Those are over-voltage protection, over-current protection, under-voltage protection, and static protection. Adding the over-temperature protection, five safety measures are there in total.

Lastly, it stops charging in the presence of any foreign objects like keys, coins, etc. You can get this fast charger from here at a cost of ₹2,299.

No need to say anything about Logitech’s PC accessories, if you have a computer, you must know this company. Now, it comes to the field with the new Pro X Lightspeed Gaming Headset. The name is nearly the same as it’s previous one, Pro X, but the ‘Lightspeed’ indicates some updates.

The main change is the addition of wireless technology. Yes, the Pro X was a wired headset and this one is wireless. As its a gaming-focused product and pledged to deliver a good service while gaming from its end, the company must not depend upon the Bluetooth connectivity as they need to reduce the latency.

The 2.4GHz network solves this problem. You can connect the headset through it with your PC or console. Logitech says the Pro X Lightspeed remain connected from 13 meters away.

Huawei announces new 28nm HiSilicon ATV chips

0

Huawei’s silicon division HiSilicon announces its new 28nm Advanced Television (ATV) chip last week on 24th July and it supports the LiteOS. This is very surprising for many of us because TSMC already confirmed they are not taking any orders from Huawei from 15th May and being the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing company, it also took care of the Huawei’s part.

HiSilicon chips are one of the many reasons Huawei is known for and it is used in Huawei’s own hardware like network equipment and smartphones. As, the US government cuts the business with TSMC, who manufactured these chips, by imposing new rules Huawei needs to find some other ways. And that’s the domestic partner named SMIC, the mass producer of 14nm Kirin 710F chip currently.

28nm HiSilicon ATV chips_TechnoSports.co.in

At present, it is not clear whether SMIC will manufacture the 28nm HiSilicon ATV chip or not, but there is a high chance.

As per ITHome, this new chip is developed for the non-smart TVs having 1080p or less resolution and 20% powerful than other 40nm architecture based chips. To reduce the overall cost, Huawei also added an integrated Timing Control (TCON) module. The LiteOS, normally found in Huawei’s wearables and IoT devices, support is there too.

Apart from all the chip supports SWS (Super Wide Sound) sound effects, and multiple ports including HDMI, VGA, CVBS, USB, and more.

Gionee Phone with 10,000mAh battery spotted in TEENA

0

Gionee was an emerging smartphone brand during 2014-2016 in India, though Chinese but was grabbing the smartphone market in India alongside Xiaomi and Oppo in India. Later on, due to some reasons, the smartphone brand faced some downfall and the production and supply of smartphones in India stagnated.

A smartphone from Gionee is spotted in TENAA website with a huge 10,000mAh battery. Yes, a huge 10,000mAh battery, such batteries are provided in most of the power banks nowadays. This smartphone is a alternative power bank to have in case you forgot to buy a power bank for your phone.

last time we have seen the Marathon series smartphone of the brand which came with a 6,020mAh battery and it was the Marathon M5 and after that the M2017 came with a whooping 7,000mAh battery backup. This time the company directly jumped to a 10,000mAh power backup unit and night be another smartphone of the Marathon series. The official name of this phone is still unknown.

According to TENAA, the phone comes with a 5.72” LCD (720p+) display which measures 160.6 x 75.8 x 8.4 mm and weighs almost 305 grams. This weight is considerable with the amount of battery capacity the phone has. TENAA shows a 2.0 GHz octa-core CPU with a surprisingly Android 7.1 Nougat platform. The phone may come in 4/6/8 GB RAM options along with 64/128/256 GB storage variants.

TENAA does not mention the fast charging wattage for this smartphone but we guess the company will definitely provide more than 10W for this phone or else the full charge will almost take 7 to 8 hours and no one will be happy with this sort of time to charge a phone. This Gionee phone might launch in August.

Qualcomm announced 100W+ Quick Charge 5 that can charge 50% in 5 minutes

Qualcomm has announced the Quick Charge 5 a couple of days back and it is now a trending news. Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 is the successor of the QC4 which was introduced back in 2017 and now the company wants to reclaim the title of fast charging with this new Quick Charge 5 that can provide 100W+ power to a smartphone. The claims are sky high from Qualcomm and let’s discuss about what the brand has done with this charger.

First let’s talks about what Qualcomm is claiming, here the brand claims that it can provide 100W power or more while charging in the meanwhile keeping the battery 10°C cooler and it’s 70% more efficient to boot. The charger can charge 50% of a dual cell 4,500mAh battery in just 5 minutes. Well, that’s some kind of insane power for a charger. Even previously we have seen, Oppo and Realme are also going to launch another 125W charger that can charge 33% in just 3 minutes. Nubia has also announced its 120W charger yesterday.

The company claims that this charger can fully charge the battery in just 15 minutes while keeping the Ampere rating from 3.3A to 5A or even higher if needed while the minimum Voltage needed in this case is 20V. QC5 (Quick Charge 5) is built on top of USB Power Delivery PPS but it is also compatible with QC2 or later, it can even support iPhone 7 or higher models.

Quick Charge 5  features 8 levels of voltage protection, 3 levels of current protection, 3 levels of thermal protection and 3 timer protections, plus overvoltage protection at 25 V. The charge controller chip inside the device will decide how much power is perfectly needed for the phone to charge at maximum speed while keeping the temperature of the battery in count.

Qualcomm also unveils two charge controller chips – SMB1396 and MSB1398 which can b used by the smartphone manufacturers. The company expects QC5 supported phones will arrive as soon as in the third quarter (Q3) of the year. Though this charger works perfectly for two cell devices but according to the choice of the brand if the smartphone is built around 1 cell battery then the charge will be limited to 45W which is also pretty fast.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and 865+ will support the QC5 but this doesn’t mean that all the smartphones with these chipsets will support it now but they need to be paired with the charge controller chips as well. Qualcomm has also shared some of the devices that support this QC5 in their website which are – Samsung Galaxy S20 5G, LG V30, and Nokia 8.
