Android 12’s Hibernate feature will automatically make unused apps sleep

On our Android devices, we often find that we find ourselves running short on storage space after some months of usage. However, with its latest Android version, Google plans to give its users a sigh of relief from the everlasting storage problem.

With its Android 11, Google introduced the “auto-revoke” feature that autonomously revoked privileges (e.g., access to user location, read/write access) for apps that had gone unused for three or more months.

Android 12’s Hibernate feature will automatically make unused apps sleep

According to sources, Google is bringing with its Android 12 a higher version of its earlier feature. The new OS version will activate itself automatically, and this time it won’t show mercy. The feature on Android 12 will automatically “hibernate” apps that have gone unused for three or more months.

The new feature will also clear the app’s temporary files and cache from the phone’s storage in addition to revoking privileges. App data appears to remain on the device, so the storage freed through the process is minimal. However, it’s still a step towards clearing some storage space on Android devices, especially those with a low build.

A similar type of feature called “offloading” is available on iPhones as well. It deletes apps automatically if they haven’t been used for a while. Though Android 12’s new feature is not as aggressive, however, it’s still something to look forward to.

Google’s FLoC a bad idea, and WordPress is blocking it

Google announced its latest Federated Learning of Cohorts or simply FLoC, it’s the company’s new ad tracking feature that will replace third-party cookies. It has already entered into its testing phase and it places people with similar browsing histories in a group for target advertising.

However, most of the famous browsers such as the DuckDuckGo, Brave, Vivaldi, and Mozilla have opted out of FLoC, and are against the complete implementation of the new Algorithm.

According to recent sources, WordPress, an open-source content management system, that powers about 41% of the web has also joined the list of those opposing the new tech from Google. It stated that it will block Google’s new ad tracking technology as the company sees it as a security concern.

WordPress released four lines of code that can help developers block FLoC for their websites. However, those who are willing to accept the terms of FLoC can do so and there isn’t any restriction, however, WordPress has voiced its opposition to the algorithm by releasing the lines of code.

“While it is indeed unusual to treat a new “feature” this way, there is precedent in that something that was not strictly a security vulnerability in comments was back-ported to previous versions for the good of the community as a whole.”

Security analysts have openly criticized Google’s FLoC, even going as far as calling it a bad idea. Placing people in groups based on their browsing habits is likely to facilitate employment, housing, and other types of discrimination, as well as predatory targeting of unsophisticated consumers.

Gigabyte’s upcoming X570S AORUS PRO AX motherboards confirm AMD’s new chipset

0

At the start of this month, we had a leak suggesting that Gigabyte is preparing new AMD motherboards and spotted eight new X570S motherboards submissions to EEC.

So, among those 8 motherboards, one of them i.e. the X570S AORUS PRO AX has no been spotted by @TUM_APISAK on CPU-Z benchmark paired with AMD Ryzen 7 5700G.

This implies that these upcoming AMD X570S motherboards will not only support the upcoming Zen 3+ Warhol CPUs later this year but also the current Zen 3 based CPUs as well. In the screenshot, we also see the motherboard still using the AM4 socket.

Now, it’s unclear whether AMD will give this architecture a new name and make it a separate genre as they did with Zen+ or just made refreshed Zen 3 processors as they did with Ryzen 3000XT. However, as per the leaked roadmaps, Zen 3+ or Warhol CPUs are supposed to be based out on 6nm process but still use AM4 socket.

All these are only rumors but the existence of these X570S motherboards seems confirmed with this leak. Now, Zen 3+ Warhol CPUs are quite fascinating currently as well as the upcoming AM5 chipset, with time we can surely get more info on this.

Luminar shares surge nearly 20% upon hiring Tesla Veteran

0

Luminar shares saw an almost 20% jump in its share price on Wednesday as news broke of a high-profile executive shakeup. The manufacturer of high-performance lidar sensors for autonomous vehicles announced that the former General Counsel of Tesla, Alan Prescott, will join the company as its Chief Legal Officer.

Mr. Prescott, who has previously served as Uber’s senior counsel, was not the only high-profile hiring, Luminar has also appointed Intel’s former financial executive, Trey Campbell, as its lead contact for investor relations. Given the dramatic surge in Luminar’s shares on Wednesday, investors are viewing the company’s latest executive hiring spree as a roadmap to success in a cutthroat industry.

In March this year, Luminar secured a lucrative partnership with the largest automaker in China, SAIC Motor, which will see its lidar sensors incorporated in SAIC’s R brand Electric Vehicles. Luminar will establish its first office in China as a part of this deal. Moreover, the “partnership is expected to deliver the first autonomous production vehicles in China, establishing SAIC’s technology leadership position and Luminar’s production launch in the region.”

Unlike Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) lidars, Luminar’s sensors measure the time taken for a laser beam to reflect off a surface. Luminar’s branded lidar architecture utilizes an InGaAs Receiver & ASIC (2x) 1550nm Laser Dual-Axis Scanner. As per the report by WCCFTECH, Lumiar’s Iris will be seamlessly integrated into the roofline of SAIC’s R brand vehicles. “Luminar’s lidar sensors provide a range performance of over 250 meters and a maximum resolution of over 300 pts/deg2 @ 10Hz. Moreover, it also offers a 120°x30° field of view.”

The lidar sphere is on a rise and getting crowded with companies that are going public in order to acquire funds for the ongoing transition to autonomous transportation. While Luminar and Velodyne remain top of the pile in this equity sector, other players are also making their mark now. For instance, Aeva retails FMCW lidar sensors that measure velocity as well as reflectivity, depth, and inertial motion. In order to do this, “the sensor emits a continuous, low-power laser beam that measures changes in the frequency of waves that are reflected from intermittent objects.” Accordingly, FMCW retains a major edge over other comparable time-of-flight lidar products.

Today the company is going to launch the Realme 8 5G in India, and needless to say, that event is also going to be flashy as well. We are hoping to witness some more non-smartphone products as well in the launch event.

Realme India CMO Madhav has already teased a few upcoming hardware and some software upgrades in his tweets. Madhav has teased a new Realme Smart TV 4K (43″) and Realme Assistant teased by Madhav for Realme TVs.

For the television, Madhav has not mentioned anything other than a portion of its poster and the name of the TV itself. Mi 11X will contain a charger in the box in India unlike Redmi K40 in China

Redmi K40 was launched a couple of months earlier in China. During the launch, the company made it clear that they will not ship the phones with the charger in the box. This also rose a question that if the fast chargers are going to be available separately as soon as the launch or not. But along with that, the company had also promised that they will keep an option for their customers to choose from a with or without a charger in the box. Then after few times, a report came out raveling that only 4% of the Redmi K40 customers have opted for the without a charger in the box option.

Here the Mi 11X that will be launched tomorrow in India is said to be the rebranded version of the Redmi K40. This should raise a concern where it is obvious to think if the company is going to provide the charger in the box or not. Indian customers want chargers in the box because they know that it will help reduce more carbon print from the environment than selling those in-box chargers separately with its own box and user manuals.

A recent report shared by Indian tipster Abhishek Yadav claims that the company is providing the charger in the box of the Mi 11X. In his last tweet regarding the price of the smartphone, he guessed it to be around Rs.25,000 in India. the exact pricing is not known yet by the tipster or else he would have shared until now, but the assumed price is also good for Mi 11X in India.
