The Fincher Fingerprint
Note the palette. Sickly yellows, deep shadows and neon slicing through the dark give the film a dangerous edge that sets it apart from the first movie. Messerschmidt, who also shot Mank and Mindhunter, knows how to make grit look gorgeous, and IMAX should make it look even better.
Music: A Fincher Regular Returns
Reznor and Ross are scoring the film, their sixth collaboration with Fincher, according to No Film School. Their past work ranges from industrial dread to convincing 1940s swing, so a 1977 crime story gives them plenty to play with. The trailer already borrows a classic rock track, and it will be interesting to see how far the score leans into the period.
