Squid Game’s Jung Ho Yeon May Be Headed to the Australian Outback Next

Jung Ho Yeon could be adding another major project to her post-Squid Game run, with reports suggesting she’s in talks to join Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller “Outback.”

What We Know So Far

On July 21, JTBC Entertainment News reported that Jung Ho Yeon will star in the series. Her agency, BH Entertainment, responded with a measured confirmation, stating she has “received an offer to star in ‘Outback’ and is currently reviewing it” — meaning nothing is locked in just yet, but the offer is real.

She’d be joining a cast that already includes Ryu Jun Yeol and Hong Kyung, both of whom were previously reported to be in talks for the project.

What “Outback” Is About

Based on the mystery thriller webtoon “G’Day,” the series follows Shi On, a man who travels to Australia in search of his missing older sister, and Hans, a mysterious figure he crosses paths with along the way. The story’s Australian setting and thriller-driven premise mark a distinct change of pace for Korean drama fare, which typically stays closer to home.

Why This Casting Matters

Director Jeon Doo Kwan previously helmed the TVING series “Seen,” bringing experience in tense, atmospheric storytelling that should suit “Outback”‘s mystery-thriller tone well. With Jung Ho Yeon’s global profile continuing to grow since her breakout in Squid Game, her potential involvement adds serious star power to an already promising lineup.

Nothing is finalized yet, so fans will want to keep an eye out for official confirmation from all sides before getting too invested in the casting news.
