Some jokes land harder because the punchline is true. On the latest members-only episode of India’s Got Latent Season 2, host Samay Raina couldn’t resist poking fun at Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s spy thriller “Alpha” — a film he’d actually gone out of his way to support.
What Happened on the Show Samay Raina?
The episode featured Raghav Juyal and Niharika NM promoting their film “Bhai Tera Star Hai.” When Raghav mentioned the title for the second time, Samay teased him for constantly having to plug his own movie. Raghav shot back that Alia Bhatt had done the same for “Alpha” — which is exactly when Samay landed his dig.
| Moment | What Was Said |
|---|---|
| Raghav’s defense | “Alia Bhatt ne bhi khudh hi btaya tha” (Alia also promoted her own film) |
| Samay’s comeback | “Uski bhi nahi chali fir” (That didn’t work for her film either) |
| Context | Samay had earlier booked an entire theatre for fans to watch Alpha |
| Alpha’s box office | ₹58.62 crore India, ₹98.83 crore worldwide |
The Irony: Samay Actually Championed the Film
What makes the joke land differently is that Samay wasn’t just commenting from the sidelines — he’d booked an entire theatre and handed out free tickets so fans could watch “Alpha.” After the screening, he even video-called Alia Bhatt to tell her the audience loved it. The dig, then, reads less like mockery and more like a comedian unable to resist an easy setup, even about a film he personally supported.
How Alpha Actually Performed
The numbers back up the joke. “Alpha,” the first female-led entry in the YRF Spy Universe, opened to mixed-to-negative reviews and underwhelmed at the box office relative to its franchise siblings like “Pathaan,” “War,” and “War 2.” Directed by Aditya Rawal and starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, the film also featured a divisive Hrithik Roshan cameo — some viewers called it the film’s best moment, others felt it added little.
About India’s Got Latent Season 2
The show’s return hasn’t been without baggage. The original season was pulled from YouTube after controversial remarks by Ranveer Allahbadia sparked major backlash. Samay announced the show’s comeback in 2026 during his stand-up special “Still Alive,” and Season 2 now streams on both YouTube and Netflix.
