Qualcomm to bring 5G to entry-level smartphones with Snapdragon 4-Series Mobile Platforms

The smartphone chip giant Qualcomm has a lot of ambition to make 5G affordable and it is evident when Jio partnered with Google and Qualcomm to announce the launch of affordable 5G smartphones. Until now, 5G has been restricted to flagship premium smartphones and recently mid-range ones as well, however, entry-level ones has not been included to the list.

But now, with the announcement of the Snapdragon 4-series mobile platforms, Qualcomm plans to bring 5G support to entry-level smartphones as well. As Qualcomm points out in their blog, they want to power 3.5 billion smartphone users who still prefer these smartphones and they want to bring their new Snapdragon 4-series in early 2021.

5G is the future of connectivity, and as more and more countries are adopting the 5G network, the 5G SoC market has become crucial and this can blast in 2021 as India too joins the party with the hands of Reliance Jio. So, after the 6-series, Qualcomm will bring the 4-series as well for a huge amount of entry-level users, and in fact, still, an entry-level smartphone is the highest selling one in the market.

Snapdragon 4-Series Mobile Platforms

“Qualcomm continues to pave the way for 5G commercialization at scale, and the expansion of 5G into our Snapdragon 4-series is expected to address regions that currently have approximately 3.5 billion smartphone users combined,” said Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm Incorporated. “The Snapdragon 4-series 5G Mobile Platform is designed to exceed expectations for the mass-market segment by bringing an assortment of predominately high- and mid-tier features to a broader audience. It will deliver on the promise of making 5G accessible to all smartphone users.”
