K Bhagyaraj’s Last Note for Son Shanthnu Sparks Divide — Here’s Why

Some goodbyes feel personal. This one, netizens say, felt a little too polished.

Veteran Tamil actor-director K. Bhagyaraj passed away on June 27, 2026, at 73, following a cardiac arrest. Days later, his team shared a heartfelt posthumous note on social media — one that’s now got fans split right down the middle.

“Happiness comes from making people around you happy,” the note read, referencing his decision to donate his eyes. It went on to make a quiet, personal appeal: that the love audiences gave him for decades be passed on to his son, actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj.

Beautiful words. But not everyone bought it.

Why Fans Are Divided on K Bhagyaraj?

Bhagyaraj’s legacy, though, isn’t up for debate. He wrote and directed over 25 films, acted in more than 75, and remains one of Tamil cinema’s most respected writer-directors — with a career spanning decades, right up to a memorable role in Dhanush’s Kuberaa. Stars including Rajinikanth, Mammootty, and Thalapathy Vijay attended his funeral. He’s survived by his wife, actress Poornima Bhagyaraj, daughter Saranya Bhagyaraj, and son Shanthnu.
