K Bhagyaraj’s Last Public Appearance Was at Khushbu Sundar’s Daughter’s Wedding

Tamil cinema lost one of its most beloved storytellers this week. Veteran actor-filmmaker K. Bhagyaraj passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 73, reportedly after suffering a cardiac arrest, leaving behind an impeccable legacy. What’s struck a chord with fans is the timing — he had been seen in public, smiling and surrounded by friends, just days before his passing.

A Joyful Farewell, Without Anyone Knowing

Just days before his demise, Bhagyaraj attended actress Khushbu Sundar’s daughter’s wedding in Goa, where he was spotted interacting warmly with his contemporaries at the venue. A video from the celebration that has since surfaced online shows him greeting veteran actor Chiranjeevi affectionately. The star-studded event also saw Venkatesh Daggubati, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Trisha Krishnan, Jackie Shroff, and Anil Kapoor in attendance.

For fans, that glimpse of him laughing among old friends has become an unexpectedly tender final memory.

A Legacy Larger Than Cinema

Bhagyaraj wrote and directed more than 25 films and acted in over 75, earning recognition as one of Tamil cinema’s most influential writer-directors. He was also a skilled musician, composing music for films including Aararo Aariraro and Gnanapazham. One of his final on-screen roles was as Sadhu in the Dhanush-starrer Kuberaa.
