Dutee Chand: India’s 1st LGBTQ athlete

Dutee Chand became India’s first athlete to come out and openly declare herself as a member of the LGBTQ community.

Dutee Chand is India’s fastest woman. She is just about 5 feet 6 inches – which is short considered she is a sprinter. But at only 23 years of age, she has fought odds worse than most people, even international-level athletes can imagine.

When Dutee was just 18 years old, she was at the forefront of the debate surrounding hyperandrogenism – a condition where the female body produces high levels of testosterone. She was banned from competing by the International Association of Athletics Federations because of the condition. She took her case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2015 and won a landmark case that allowed her to compete as a woman. She cleared the way for other athletes with hyperandrogenism to also compete.

Dutee Chand

Dutee then went on to win the silver medal in both the 100 m and 200 m races at the 2018 Asian Games.

“There are no rules for men but for women there are so many tests: why is your hormone count so high, how much is your body fat, how much is your height, they check everything. But not every human body can be the same, the development of a human body differs even from country to country and athletes are made depending on that development. Like a lot of good athletes come out from countries like America and Jamaica, but we can’t even reach that level,” she said while talking on the sidelines of the launch event for Skechers GoRun 7 in Mumbai.

Dutee Chand has now made a big revelation last month. The 23-year-old sprinter shattered a taboo in India by disclosing that she is in a same-sex relationship. She became India’s first athlete, male or female, to come out openly. She revealed she faced backlash from her family and came out only after blackmail from her sister. She said: “I’ve already told everyone how much stress my sister gave me. I couldn’t train properly at least for 10-15 days after that. But now, I’m starting to forget everything and getting back to my training. I’ve received a lot of support from the public and it has made me feel comfortable”.

The Indian Supreme Court struck down the British-era law on homosexuality as late as 2018 but homosexuality still remains taboo in the country. So coming from a poor family of weavers in Chaka Gopalpur, a village in Jajpur district of Odisha, to admit being in a same-sex relationship would take a lot more courage than running down the distance of 100m in the high-pressure Olympics. But the 23-year is made of far stronger stuff. She fought, or rather ran, her way from a small village to being a global trailblazer for women athletes. She does not shy away from using her voice to call out the sport’s sexism and her country’s double standards for women.

“When you go to any event, athletes look at you in a way that you’re not an athlete. You feel a lot then. As if being an athlete is already not stressful enough, life becomes even more stressful with this,” Dutee said but with a smile.
She further added: “It was difficult for me at first. In Odisha or the world, people don’t follow rules, people follow traditions. People are orthodox in their thinking, so it becomes a challenge to make them understand. First time when this issue happened in Odisha, people spoke very badly of me. But slowly when they started reading positive things on newspaper and TV, people starting understanding.
I didn’t expect anything. I thought that people might speak ill of me after I spoke about it because I’m an athlete and a celebrity, and maybe it will affect my game again like in 2014. But by God’s grace, there’s been no such thing. Athletics Federation of India, Sports Authority of India, everyone has supported it, saying it is your personal life and no action will be taken due to it. In fact, they told me to train well”.

Dutee Chand

Dutee believes in the burning desire to – in colloquial words – let haters hate. She said: “When someone speaks ill of me, I feel a sense of jealousy from inside. I also get angry. Jo bolte hai na, haat se nahi maar sakte toh chawal se maro [roughly translated to ‘if you can’t hit someone with your hand, throw something at them]. I can’t hit people with my hand, but I will do some things that will want people to try and hit me but they won’t be able to. That’s how I become strong. The more people speak bad about me, the more I focus on my training.”

From hyperandrogenism to homosexuality, Dutee Chand is thankful for the widespread support she has received in India. She said: “I am playing for my country and whatever I do it is for my country. The support and good wishes that I have received gives me the confidence to keep fighting.”

The 23-year-old sprinter is up next for the World University Games on 28th June in Italy. She is training for the competition, but wishes she could have done more in her preparation. She wants to focus more on finishing her races as she starts well but loses steam midway.

Shakib al Hasan, Liton Das played a masterclass and took Bangladesh past victory.

1560793046 5165 Shakib al Hasan, Liton Das played a masterclass and took Bangladesh past victory.

Shakib was equally fluent on front and back foot, and even good balls were not spared. Right from the beginning, his timing was top-notch, which provided him the early momentum and Bangladesh’s newly-appointed No 3 never looked back from there.

Litton has smashed the winning runs with a pull to the square leg boundary. Huge win for Bangladesh and quite a bad result for West Indies. Bangladesh win by 7 wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan said that Bangladesh are playing cricket at a different level and credited the team management for keeping them calm in the dressing room.

Bangladesh began their World Cup 2019 campaign on a perfect note as they defeated South Africa in their opening game, but two successive defeats – against New Zealand and England – and shared points with Sri Lanka, have pushed them on to the backfoot.

Bangladesh bounced back in style as they chased down the 321 posted by West Indies in clinical fashion and made sure their win against South Africa was not considered a fluke.

“I will say it’s a whole new level [for us],” Shakib said after Bangladesh’s seven-wicket win on Monday (June 18).

“I personally think those matches in Ireland helped us a lot. Because we won every match chasing there and at no point it seemed that we are batting under pressure and we have to play big strokes.

In a run-chase of 322, following a brisk start when Soumya Sarkar got out to a short ball off Andre Russell, West Indies were eyeing to get the control back. Caribbean skipper Jason Holder set a very attacking field to the next man, Shakib.

The Windies think tank was aware of the fact that fitness-wise, the Bangladesh all-rounder was not at his best. He was supposed to miss the previous fixture against Sri Lanka in Bristol, which was eventually washed out. Hence, despite his rich form, Shakib was needed to start from scratch in this run chase. Furthermore, at that point, there was a mild but steady drizzle and the light was not that great either.

Bangladesh registered their 2nd victory in the World Cup. They are now at the 5th position in the points table.

Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro claims to be the world’s fastest smartphone

The upcoming Redmi K20 Pro claims itself to be world’s fastest smartphone scoring 388,803 points at AnTuTu benchmarks

Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone the Redmi K20 Pro has made some headlines out there and is being tremendously appraised by reviewers and tech enthusiasts globally.

The key spec of this smartphone being the Snapdragon 855, this smartphone has just scored some amazing numbers at the AnTuTu benchmarks, a whopping 388,803 points (the best one achieved by any smartphone till date).

Redmi K20 Pro

It was previously speculated by the tweets of Manu Jain, Managing Director of Xiaomi India, that both the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro would hit the Indian market by end of this month, but now its assumed that it could make its way by mid July.

To keep the keen Indian enthusiasts happy, Jain shared a tweet boasting the benchmark scores:

Redmi K20 Pro

The whopping 388,803 points scored by the K20 Pro is way higher than OnePlus 7 Pro’s AnTuTu score or the score of any other recently released flagship smartphone. The best part of this is the K20 Pro is a mid-range smartphone and still, it beats its hefty priced competitors.

But this is only the benchmarks, still it needs real life performance testing to reveal its actual quality. As for now, Xiaomi fans can enjoy the fact that this new Xiaomi flagship is coming to rule the market.

Redmi K20 Pro

Apart from the Snapdragon 855, it packs a triple rear camera, new design, pop-up selfie camera, 27W fast charging support, in-display fingerprint scanner and lot more.

The China price of the Redmi K20 Pro starts at 2499 Yuan, which roughly converts around Rs 25,000. But for India, it can be a bit more aggressively priced considering the popularity of Redmi series in India. Well, all doubts will only be cleared after it debuts in India next month.

Neymar set for a dramatic return to Catalonia

0

According to Globoesporte, President of the Catalan club openly talked with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal to re-sign Neymar. The trading may involve Umtiti, Dembélé and Rakitic, plus value by transfer.

After 2 years of stay at PSG, the Brazilian star is close to returning back to his former club Barcelona. It is said that the Catalan club has been holding talks with PSG’s boss in search of a return.

The 27-year-old had always desired to return back to his former teammates Messi and Saurez, who shared an amazing bond between each other. He left the club back in 2017 in return for a record €222 million transfer fee.

Neymar set for a dramatic return to Catalonia

GloboEsporte.com even confirms that the negotiation is well underway and also there’s a possibility of being fulfilled in the next window of transfers i.e. July.

They also reported that Barca might pay €100 million (£90m/$112m) along with giving away players like Umtiti, Dembélé and Rakitic to bring Neymar back to the club.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, FC Barcelona’s president, himself is leading this deal and he wants to see the former jersey 11 again at the club.

Neymar set for a dramatic return to Catalonia

Neymar in total made 186 appearances for Barca, scoring 105 goals and achieved eight total trophies during his time alongside Suarez and Messi. He was also the part of the team winning a treble in the 2014-15 season.

Neymar has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain until the middle of 2022 but there’s no termination penalty, which was previously beared by PSG to get him out of Barcelona.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi told “France Football” magazine that he does not want any celebrity behaviour at the club and then spoke specifically about the Brazilian when questioned:

Neymar set for a dramatic return to Catalonia
PSG president, Nasser Al Khelaifi

“I want players willing to give everything to defend the honour of the shirt and participate in the project of the club. Those who do not want, or do not understand, we see and talk to each other. Of course, there are contracts to be respected, but the priority now is full adherence to our project ” – said the president of PSG.

“No one made Neymar sign with us. No one forced him. He came consciously to participate in a project – completed.

Nasser Al Khelaif

Currently, Neymar has been sidelined with an ankle injury that will keep him out of the entire Copa America.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi

‘Who wouldn’t want to enjoy players like Neymar?’ – Suarez

When Saurez was asked about Neymar’s link back to Barca, he said he would seemingly welcome Neymar back to the club.

“I was privileged to fulfil one of the best years of my life as a football player at Barcelona next to the best in the world, Messi, and the second best in the world, Neymar,” said the Uruguayan International.

“For me, it was one of the best moments I’ve ever lived, won the treble.” Suarez even added: “Who would not want to enjoy players like Ney?”

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi

Barcelona’s promising midfielder, Arturo Vidal echoed Suarez’s sentiment

Arturo Vidal joined Barcelona last season after being featured at clubs like Bayern Munich and Juventus. He has now become a regular player in Barca’s starting XI and has helped the Catalan giants to win the La Liga title as well.

Vidal also played an important part for Chile’s 4-0 win over Japan at the ongoing Copa America. He says that Neymar still remains to be a beloved figure at the Barca dressing room.

“It would be lovely if he wanted to come (back to Barcelona),” Vidal said following Chile’s win. “He won everything, everyone likes him there.”

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi

This could also spur up the rumours of Neymar heading back towards Barcelona.

Though Neymar had an amazing domestic season for PSG, winning two consecutive Ligue 1 titles, scoring 51 goals in 58 total appearances, still the club has failed in their pursuit of the Champions League title.

It will be interesting to see how the transfer season of the Catalan giants end up especially when the French star Griezmann is rumoured to be signing for Barcelona in coming days.

This was the marquee game of this World Cup – a sell-out crowd, one billion TV viewers and more than 700,000 ticket requests, but it ended with Pakistan knocking the ball around in front of a half-empty stadium.

India’s 336/5 is now their 6th highest score in the World Cup.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. India batting first scored 336 runs at the loss of 5 wickets,at the end of 50 overs.

India’s 336 is also the highest by India against akistan in a World Cup game. The previous highest was 300/7 at Adelaide in 2015.

Rohit Sharma scored his 24th century in ODIs,13th batting first,4th in England,3rd in a World Cup game, 2nd vs Pakistan and 1st at old Trafford.

He did survive two run out chances. The first reprieve came when he was on 32 as Fakhar Zaman threw at the wrong end with the batsman halfway down the track while attempting a second run. In the next over, Shahdab Khan’s poor throw allowed him to make his ground at the striker’s end. Sharma made Pakistan pay heavily, reaching his 50 off 34 balls and his century off 85.

Rohit Sharma was declared the Player of the Match.

Kohli scored 77 runs. Kohli while scoring became the quickest to reach 11,000 international runs. Virat Kohli was also the quickest to 8,000, 9,000 and 10,000 runs in odi.

Paul Pogba has confirmed that he wants to leave Manchester United

Pogba has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid and now he reckons that it is the right time to move on after three years at Manchester United.

Paul Pogba returned to United in an £89 million deal in the summer of 2016 but he has never been able to fully win over his doubters during his second spell with the Premier League giants. He endured a complicated relationship with former boss Jose Mourinho. And now the World Cup winner has opened up on why now is the perfect time to leave the club, as he spoke to media during a promotional event in Tokyo.

AS on Twitter

💬 La táctica Pogba: vea como sale de su boca la misma frase que usó Hazard antes de fichar 🗣 “Quiero tener nuevos retos en otro lugar” https://t.co/i5tPOGjGNd

Pogba told reporters in Tokyo that it’s “time for a new challenge”. He said: “There has been a lot of talking, a lot of thinking as well. I’ve been here for three years in Manchester, it has been going great.
There have been some good moments and some bad moments, like everywhere else. But after this season, after everything that happened with my season, it was my best season as well, I think for me it can be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.
I’m thinking of this – to have a new challenge somewhere else.”

Pogba has scored 24 goals in 92 appearances for Manchester United and was the only player outside of Manchester City and Liverpool to be named in the PFA Premier League team of the year in 2018-19.

Pogba

Pogba’s former club Juventus has been linked with him. He has a habit of going back to former clubs with a sense of unfinished business. So Juventus is an option. The Turin giants have always made clear their intention of winning the Champions League, and surely adding Pogba to their star-studded squad would further improve their chances of lifting the trophy.

But, Real Madrid are the clear front runners to get Pogba’s signature. Real Madrid have made a very public play for the Frenchman in recent months, with Zinedine Zidane admitting that he likes the midfielder and several reports from their mouthpieces in the press reveals that his signature is a priority.

Reports emerged from Spain on Sunday that Pogba is willing to go and strike a deal to move to the Bernabeu this summer as he eyes joining forces with compatriot Zinedine Zidane. Zidane has already bolstered his squad for the next season by signing Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes after an underwhelming 2018-19 campaign.

Maurizio Sarri quits his job at Chelsea and joins Juventus

Maurizio Sarri has signed a contract with Serie A champions Juventus until June 2022.

Maurizio Sarri has replaced Massimiliano Allegri as the head coach of Juventus. Allegri agreed to leave the Serie A champions in May after clinching a fifth consecutive Serie A title.

JuventusFC on Twitter

UFFICIALE | Maurizio Sarri è il nuovo allenatore della Juventus ➡️ https://t.co/UlTdg53to3 #WelcomeSarri

Sarri enjoyed a successful spell with Napoli before he took over at Stamford Bridge last summer. Sarri’s only season in London saw him finish third in the Premier League and win the Europa League. Now he will be back in Italy after only one season as Chelsea boss.

Chelsea have also confirmed that the two clubs have agreed to the early termination of the 60-year-old’s contract, which had two years left to run.

Chelsea FC on Twitter

Maurizio Sarri is leaving Chelsea Football Club to return to Italy and become manager of Juventus. https://t.co/gIeiIp1ZEo

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: “In talks, we had following the Europa League final, Maurizio made it clear how strongly he desired to return to his native country, explaining that his reasons for wanting to return to work in Italy were significant.
He also believed it important to be nearer his family, and for the well-being of his elderly parents he felt he needed to live closer to them at this point.
Maurizio leaves Chelsea with thanks from us all for the work he and his assistants did during the season he spent as our head coach, and for winning the Europa League, guiding us to another cup final and a third-place finish in the Premier League.
We would also like to congratulate him on securing the role as big as any in Serie A and to wish him the best of luck for the future.”

Sarri

Sarri’s playing style never won fans over but third place in the Premier League, coupled with an appearance in the EFL Cup final – overshadowed by Kepa Arrizabalaga refusing to be substituted – and Europa League glory marked a successful single season. Sarri’s 61.9 per cent win ratio at the club narrowly pips fellow Italian Ancelotti, who replaced him at Napoli last year.

Maurizio Sarri will now be expected to challenge for the Champions League and lead Juventus to a ninth Scudetto in a row. He will look to build the team around five times Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo and regain the lost European giants status for the Old Lady.

Real Madrid have signed ‘Japanese Messi’ – Takefusa Kubo

Real Madrid have finally signed highly-regarded Japanese wonderkid Takefusa Kubo from FC Tokyo for €2m.

Takefusa Kubo was previously at Barcelona’s academy and has been dubbed the ‘Japanese Messi’. Barcelona tried to sign him in 2014 but had their efforts curtailed by a FIFA ban.

The 18-year-old is considered as one of Asia’s most exciting young talents. He made his full Japan debut this month. Kubo is also a part of the Japan squad for the Copa America 2019.

Kubo

Los Blancos announced on Friday that Kubo has signed for the club and will represent their Castilla side next season after agreeing on a five-year deal. He is set to receive a salary of €1m per season. Real Madrid described Kubo in a club statement as “one of the most promising young players in world football”.

Kubo made his J.League debut at the age of just 15. The attacking midfielder has enjoyed an impressive year so far with FC Tokyo, where he caught Real Madrid’s attention. He has played a total of 16 games in all competitions and scored five goals. FC Tokyo has received €2m for the transfer.

Kubo

Following an underwhelming campaign, Zinedine Zidane has boosted his squad by the arrivals of Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes. Real Madrid now looks a strong team on paper and ready again to challenge for the LaLiga and the Champions League titles in the next season.

Real Madrid have signed Ferland Mendy for €48m

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Lyon full-back Ferland Mendy for an initial fee of €48million.

Ferland Mendy has spent the past two seasons with Olympique Lyonnais after joining from Le Havre in June 2017. Since 2017, the 24-year-old has also played four times for France and played games in the Champions League.

Real Madrid has signed Mendy on a deal until June 2025. Lyon also confirmed that they have received €48m initially and will receive a further €5m in add-ons.

Olympique Lyonnais on Twitter

Zinedine Zidane has swiftly bolstered his squad after Real Madrid disappointingly finished third in LaLiga last term and crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16. They have already bolstered their ranks for next season with the signings of Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard and now Ferland Mendy. Real Madrid has signed prominent players to strengthen the team ahead of next season after a disappointing 2018-2019 campaign.

Ferland Mendy

But, the arrival of Mendy has also sparked speculation about the future of Brazil left-back Marcelo. Sergio Reguilon and Theo Hernandez will also compete for the position. It seems that the Brazilian will have to spend the next season as a second choice left-back at Real Madrid. Or else Marcelo will also have the option of joining his old friend Ronaldo at Juventus.
