India continued their World Cup dominance over rivals Pakistan with a rain-affected 89-run victory as a highly anticipated match came to a strange end at Old Trafford.

This was the marquee game of this World Cup – a sell-out crowd, one billion TV viewers and more than 700,000 ticket requests, but it ended with Pakistan knocking the ball around in front of a half-empty stadium.

India’s 336/5 is now their 6th highest score in the World Cup.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. India batting first scored 336 runs at the loss of 5 wickets,at the end of 50 overs.

India’s 336 is also the highest by India against akistan in a World Cup game. The previous highest was 300/7 at Adelaide in 2015.

Kl Rahul started the innings along with Rohit Sharma. Both started well as they registered their first century partnership.

Rohit batted well and scored 140 runs. He registered his 5th consecutive 50 plus score in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma scored his 24th century in ODIs,13th batting first,4th in England,3rd in a World Cup game, 2nd vs Pakistan and 1st at old Trafford.

He did survive two run out chances. The first reprieve came when he was on 32 as Fakhar Zaman threw at the wrong end with the batsman halfway down the track while attempting a second run. In the next over, Shahdab Khan’s poor throw allowed him to make his ground at the striker’s end. Sharma made Pakistan pay heavily, reaching his 50 off 34 balls and his century off 85.

Rohit Sharma was declared the Player of the Match.

Kohli scored 77 runs. Kohli while scoring became the quickest to reach 11,000 international runs. Virat Kohli was also the quickest to 8,000, 9,000 and 10,000 runs in odi.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled a stunner and bowled out Babar Azam. It is probably the best delivery of the World Cup so far.

Kuldeep took two crucial wickets and turned the match for India.

Hardik Pandya took two wickets in two balls and Vijay Shankhar impressed on his World Cup debut, but there will be concern for India over the fitness of seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who left the field with a tight hamstring.

Pakistan, who are ninth having won just one group game, face South Africa on 23 June, while India play Afghanistan on Saturday.
