Baichung Bhutia is optimistic about India playing in the FIFA World Cup

India, the country with the second-largest population has somewhat failed to produce football stars except a very few. This fact is quite surprising considering the fact that people in India are very passionate about football. But it seems things are finally gonna change for the better.

The advent of Indian Super League in 2013 has paved the course for professional football in India. It has attracted various footballers from around the globe to come and play in India. The hype surrounding ISL is enormous. Many more youngsters have taken to football, dreaming about playing in the ISL with international stars.

Former India captain Baichung Bhutia also shares the same view about ISL helping to build Indian football. He said during a live chat with Sportskeeda: “It [ISL] has definitely contributed to the growth of Indian football. A tournament like ISL is good because we get to watch Indian players every week and they are getting coached by some of the best coaches in good infrastructure at their clubs.”

“They get to compete with a lot of good foreign players and that has definitely helped the Indian team. They are tactically more aware of the shape they are playing in and their tactical positions. They are more confident whenever they go to play against a foreign country.”

Indian football is taken steps in the right direction. India hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017. The Indian youngsters got a massive opportunity to play in the World Cup stage with football stars like Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Baichung Bhutia is optimistic that India can one day play in the FIFA World Cup. He said: “You never know. Nothing is impossible. If North Korea can play in the World Cup, it’s not entirely impossible for a country like India to play in the World Cup.”

“You are not gonna play the World Cup just by sitting, a footballing culture needs to be cultivated in India. The younger parents are now concerned about their kids playing sports and the coronavirus can change people’s attitudes towards maintaining health, staying fit and playing sports.”

Sunil Chhetri, the current face of Indian football is getting older day by day. So, Bhutia has chosen Sandesh Jhingan and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu as the ones who could lead India in the future.

Baichung Bhutia would also love to be the president of AIFF one day in order to take India football to new heights. He told: “I would love to be the president of the All India Football Federation one day. In future, if there is an opportunity, I will consider it but I am not ready right now.”

Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “India must be a leading country in the development of Artificial Intelligence in the world, leveraging upon its vast Internet savvy population and data it is creating. India’s AI approach should be of inclusion and empowerment of human being by supplementing growth and development rather than making human beings less relevant”.

To plant the seed of technological mindset, especially of AI, among youths the government launched a national program called “Responsible AI for Youth“. The main motto behind this program is to make our next nation drivers ready technologically. Government’s National e-Governance Division and Ministry of Electronics & IT is working with the electronics industry giant Intel in this mission.

Details of “Responsible AI for Youth” –

The announced national program is open for the students from class 8 to 12 of all the Central and State government-run schools over India. The entire process will be implemented in multiple phases. Those are

  • Phase 1
    • Based on some eligible criteria the State Education Department will nominate 10 teachers.
  • Phase 2
    • The selected teacher will go through an orientation session so that they can select potential students.
  • Phase 3
    • Thay will select 25 to 50 potential students.
  • Phase 4
    • The students will attend an online training session on AI where they will understand AI’s social impact.
  • Phase 5
    • The students have to submit their ideas in a 60 seconds video format. Their idea must include AI technology.
  • Phase 6
    • Top 100 ideas will be selected and the students engaged with those will be invited to attend residential boot camps or online sessions. There the youths will gather deeper knowledge.
    • They need to create a real-time project after the session and submit the final project in a video format on the website.
    • Intel certified AI coaches and mentors will be there to guide the students during the project building.
  • Phase 7
    • Top 50 projects will be selected for the face to face or online demonstrations. This phase will be handled by a group of experts.
  • Phase 8
    • Top 20 projects will be picked by the experts and will provide a relevant platform to showcase their idea.

Huawei’s Kirin 820 outperforms Snapdragon 765G while Kirin 985 falls behind MediaTek Dimensity 1000L

There has been a lot of changes in the mid-range smartphone department with the addition of Kirin 820 and Kirin 985. Even though the May AnTuTu midrange smartphone chart is still topped by the OPPO Reno3 5G powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L with 403,607 points.

The new Honor 30 and Huawei Nova 7 smartphones with Kirin 985 SoCs have come into being but still cannot defeat MediaTek, gaining the 2nd and 3rd spots with 387,583 and 385,323 points respectively.

Huawei's Kirin 820 outperforms Snapdragon 765G while Kirin 985 falls behind MediaTek Dimensity 1000L

The new Kirin 985 is a very powerful SoC, going neck-to-neck with the Dimesity 1000L, as it features 4 Cortex A76 cores, one of them running at 2.58 GHz, and the rest running at 2.40 GHz and the other 4 cores are Cortex A55 cores clocked at a modest 1.84 GHz.

These are followed by the Honor 30S with Kirin 820 managing 364,077 points, who had the second spot last month. It is followed by another two new Kirin 820-powered smartphones i.e. the Honor X10 and Huawei Nova 7 SE, which gives all the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth positions to Huawei’s Kirin chipsets.

I am surprised to not to see any new Dimensity 820 powered smartphone in the list but we see the Snapdragon 765G and Exynos 980 obtaining the last spots in the top 10 list.

However, with Huawei’s trade ban, it will be interesting to see if Huawei can continue to produce Kirin SoCs as TSMC’s supply ban to Huawei will affect a lot and we already have seen Huawei partnering with MediaTek for its upcoming smartphones.

The Chief Product Officer and SVP of Design of JioSaavan, Clint Balcom said, “Discovery of new music to be an important component to streaming, so we wanted to prioritize a sharpened engine for relevant recommendations and track suggestions.”

JioSaavan team is still working on the web and desktop version of the app as well as the variants of Jio Set Top Box and JioPhone.

The Asus TUF Gaming laptop is now retailing in almost all major countries across the globe and its Ryzen 9 4900H powered variant is limited but will be widely available with days. Undoubtedly, Asus’s strong cooling has helped for better performance of these AMD Ryzen 4000H mobile gaming processors.

They were expected to go head-to-head against 10th Intel Gen Comet Lake-H CPUs but in fact, these Ryzen processors have beaten Intel as well. Obviously, the Zen 2 architecture helped a lot to achieve better performance without affecting the TDP.

Thanks to @TUM_APISAK for pointing out the leak, where we see the Ryzen 9 4900H paired with the RTX 2060 along with 16 GB of RAM, obviously this is the Asus TUF Gaming A15 that is retailing for £1,399.99 or $1,721. We see the 8 core and 16 threaded APU managing a Physics Score of 22,383 points.

Its major rivals are the old Intel Core i9-9980HK and the new Intel Core i9-10980HK which retail in laptops that cost over $2500 on average, can be much higher as well.

While compared to the older Intel Coffee Lake Core i9-9980HK processor found in laptops costing around $2000 on average, scores a meagre 20,357 points.

So, it is pretty clear that the new Ryzen 9 4900H kills the Intel competition and registers itself the fastest 8 core CPU on a laptop. Still, considering the fact how cheap these Ryzen laptops will be, you no longer have to pay more to get a powerful laptop in 2020.

Global smartphones sales decrease by 20% in Q1 2020 due to COVID-19

It was coming and we all knew that smartphone sales dropped significantly in the Q1 2020 and we all know it was due to the global pandemic. As Techcrunch points out, the Gartner’s latest report says the global smartphone market dipped by 20.2% versus the same time last year, and its major cause is obviously the COVID-19.

Almost all global smartphone makers saw a significant decrease in its sales except Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone giant, saw an surprising increase of 1.4% in its sales, thanks to its global sales and its strong presence in Asian countries.

While all the other top five smartphone manufacturers like Samsung saw double digit decrease in sales at 22.7%, while Huawei faced 27.3% loss in sales and Oppo saw 19.1% drop.

On the other hand, Apple declined saw only 8.2% decline in smartphone sales, thanks to the strong sales of its iPhones SE 2020. While other companies saw a combined 24.2% loss for Q1, 2020.

There are a lot of factors that brings such decline to the ever-growing smartphone market including no sales during lockdowns, supply chain disruptions, economic uncertainty, decrease in offline sales, transportation issues and lot more. At this stage of decline, analysts expect that the arrival of 5G might help the market to revive.

“If COVID-19 did not happen, the vendor would have likely seen its iPhone sales reached record level in the quarter. Supply chain disruptions and declining consumer spending put a halt to this positive trend in February,” Gartner’s Annette Zimmermann said in a release.

“Apple’s ability to serve clients via its online stores and its production returning to near normal levels at the end of March helped recover some of the early positive momenta.”

After such a decline in the global market, it will take some time to recover, might take the whole year to reform, but until the COVID-19 is eradicated, every market will have its effect. Even though online and retails sales have opened, people still will have issues economically as well as mentally, bigger investments will also come to halt until sales meet its demand.

Flipkart’s food retail license application gets rejected

Flipkart applied for a Food Retail License aiming its new FarmerMart purpose. The e-commerce platform is keen to invest around ₹2.500 crores into this business. The plan was made last year and they applied for the License at the beginning of this year.

As per the source, the Flipkart’s application doesn’t go with the current FDI guideline fully. For that, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) send a letter to Flipkart, last week, mentioning the application rejection.

Flipkart authority is evaluating the issues and faults. Later, they are going to re-apply for the same.

In one of the Flipkart’s spokespersons’ word, “At Flipkart, we believe that technology and innovation driven marketplace can add significant value to our country’s farmers and food processing sector by bringing value chain efficiency and transparency.
