Apple will open its first retail store in India in 2021, online store this year says Tim Cook

0

After much speculations regarding Apple’s offline presence in India, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has made it puclic about their own offline as well as online availability in the country. The Cupertino giant is slowly and steadily making a good progress in the world’s second largest smartphone market.

Knowing the potential of Indian smartphone market, Apple already has started making iPhones in the country, in an effort to reduce the costs so that more people can afford them. Their stratergy has paid off as the iPhone XR is now one of the best selling premium smartphones in the country and the best one in the world in 2019.

Apple will open its first retail store in India in 2021, online store this year says Tim Cook

Even though Apple is creating availability for its products in India via authorised retailers and major eCommerce giants like Flipkart, Amazon, Paytm Mall but they are getting to the selling this time and the Cupertino giant has confirmed its plans.

Yesterday at its annual shareholders meeting at the Steve Jobs Theater, Tim Cook himself confirmed that Apple will open its first retail store in India in 2021. Cook has also confirmed that Apple will start selling its products on its own online store starting this year.

But you may doubt why not this year? To answer that, Tim Cook said that the company had to seek special approval for this because the Indian government wanted it to work with a partner. “We wouldn’t be a very good partner in retail. We like to do things our way,” he clarified.

This will increase the trust of the brand in the country and cut down the dominance shown by the authorised resellers and bring an end to the deep discounts provided by the eCommerce giants off lately. Also it will pave way for better economic growth and newer products for India.

It is said that Apple has chosen Mumbai’s Maker Maximity Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) as the venue for its very first Indian outlet. Apple has repordely leased aroud 20,000-25,000 sq ft space for its outlet spread over three floors in the Maker Maximity Mall.

This will be the largest Apple Store in India and will be three times to that of Apple Flagship Premium Reseller’s 8000 sq.ft outlet in Mumbai which opened back in August 2019. Apple also will be planning to open 2-3 retail offline retail stores in India in the coming years.

India’s first 5G smartphones launched starting from Rs.36,990 and their comparisons

0

India’s first-ever 5G smartphone was launched on 24th February this year which is Realme X50 Pro 5G and only a day after Vivo’s sub-brand IQOO launched its first smartphone iQOO 3 which is also a 5G enabled device. These smartphones are the first-ever 5G enabled smartphones in India and the price of those flagships is pretty much affordable. The smartphones get a starting price of Rs.36,990 (a base variant of iQOO 3).

Right now with two 5G smartphones in the Indian market, we can say Realme X50 Pro 5G is clearly the winner over the iQOO 3 and there is a very slight margin which decides which one is the best.

  1. Realme X50 Pro 5G
Image result for Realme X50 pro 5g

Specifications:

  • 6/8/12 GB RAM
  • 128/256 GB ROM
  • 16.36 cm (6.44 inch) Full HD+ Display
  • 64MP + 12MP + 8MP + 2MP Rear camera
  • 32MP + 8MP Dual Front Camera
  • 4200 mAh Battery
  • 5G Dual Band
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Processor
  • 65W Superdart Charge

The next stock of Realme X50 Pro 5G will be available soon and came in the sale on 24th February 6 pm onwards and the stock ended within a few minutes. This is a Flipkart and realme.com exclusive device so far and is available in two different colour options i.e. Moss Green and Rust Red. There are three different storage options available as well for this device i.e. 6GB | 128GB (Rs.37,999), 8GB | 128GB (Rs.39,999) and 12GB | 256GB (Rs.44,999).

2. iQOO 3

Image result for iqoo 3

Specifications:

  • 8/12 GB RAM
  • 128/256 GB ROM
  • 16.36 cm (6.44 inch) Full HD+ Display
  • 48MP + 13MP + 13MP + 2MP Rear camera
  • 16MP Front Camera
  • 4440 mAh Li-ion Battery
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Processor
  • 5G variant

The iQOO 3 will come in the sale from 4th March This is a Flipkart and realme.com exclusive device so far and is available in two different colour options i.e. Quantum Silver, Tornado Black, and Volcano Orange. There are three different storage options available as well for this device i.e. 8GB | 128GB (Rs.36,990), 8GB | 256GB (Rs.39,990) and 12GB | 256GB (Rs.44,990).

In Realme X50 Pro 5G, all the variants are 5G enabled but in iQOO 3 only the 12GB | 256GB variant is 5G enabled. So here it is clear that even for both the base variants Realme is getting a plus point for having 5G in the device. But for both the highest variants of both the brands we see that they are almost the same and balancing in different aspects.

Apple iPhone XR is the Best Selling Smartphone of 2019

0

The Omdia’s latest report has begun speculations all around the globe as in 2019, the iPhone XR has emerged to be the best selling smartphone of 2019. According to the data published by Omdia, Apple has occupied the first two places in the best selling list with 2018’s iPhone XR and the lastest iPhone 11.

Even though being a costly and premium Apple smartphones have dominated the Top 10 best selling smartphone list, occupying 5 out 10 places. Next comes Samsung who got 4 places and surprisingly, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 has found a place on the list as well.

Apple's new iPhone XR not quite affordable at Rs.76,900

The best selling smartphone according to the Top 10 list by Omdia is Apple’s iPhone XR with 46.3 million units shipments in 2019 whereas in 2018 it got only 23.1 million units shipped in 2018, making the device one of the best-selling smartphones ever.

On the second spot, we have another Apple product i.e. the recently announced iPhone 11, which is the true successor to iPhone XR, surprisingly got 37.3 million units shipped in just 3 months! It seems Apple’s strategy of cutting down costs of its iPhone to some extent has worked since the launch of iPhone XR.

Apple iPhone XR is the Best Selling Smartphone of 2019

In the third place, we finally have a Samsung device i.e the Samsung A10 with 30.3 million units shipped in 2019. Then we have the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A20 with 24.2 and 19.2 million units shipped respectively in 2019. The strong offline as well as the online presence of the Galaxy A series has helped the sales of these smartphones.

Both the flagship iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro has managed 17.6 and 15.5 million units shipped in 2019 even though carrying a high price tag along with the iPhone 8 which was 2018’s top-selling smartphone has got the 7th place in 2019.

Apple A13 Bionic chip is up to 50% faster than Snapdragon 855+

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 has made a surprise entry in the list, which is also a budget smartphone and has 16.4 million units shipped in 2019. Samsung’s older J2 Core, which is the cheapest low-budget smartphone has managed a spot in the top 10 with 15.2 million shipments.

What we might infer from the list is that even though premium smartphone market is said to be evolving and although some say Apple might be facing real issues with their high priced iPhones, Apple iPhones are the most preferred ones across the globe. Samsung and Xiaomi’s cheaper smartphones have earned their respect in the budget smartphone market.

Black Shark 3 Pro 5G creates a record at the AnTuTu benchmark scores

0

After the launch of the Snapdragon 865 last year, we were just waiting for the new premium smartphones featuring this chip. Even though the MWC 2020 was called off due to the coronavirus but still companies are launching new devices in their solo events.

Smartphones featuring this chip are scoring record AnTuTu scores every now and then, until yesterday Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 10 Pro was leading the charts after being air-cooled but now it seems that Xiaomi’s proprietory gaming smartphone – the upcoming Xiaomi Black Shark 3 featuring the Snapdragon 865 has crushed the total competition.

Black Shark 3 Pro 5G scores record AnTuTu benchmark

Xiaomi has well implemented the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC on the Black Shark 3 Pro device to reach a new high score of 620,952 points, probably their liquid cooling technology and the UI optimizations have helped the device to make such record score.

Before now, the recently launched iQOO 3 was reputed to have the highest score of 597,583 points and prior to that the Realme X50 Pro scored over 574,000 points. The Xiaomi Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro 5G will go official in just a few days on March 3 and Xiaomi has already started pre-registrations in China.

The 15W Vega 7 iGPU on the Ryzen 7 4700U destroys 25W NVIDIA GeForce MX250

0

After the launch of the AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile APUs, we had a doubt if the 7nm goodness of these processors can overtake NVIDIA graphics after giving Intel some hard times on the horsepower front.

The integrated Vega graphics has been one of the key selling points of the Ryzen Mobile processors and with days it has become much more powerful & efficient. Now, the leaked 3DMark 11 scores of the new Ryzen 7 4700U will give NVIDIA some problems.

Surprisingly this 15W Ryzen 7 4700U APU even defeats the 25W discrete GeForce MX250 by nearly 17% in the 3DMark 11’s graphics test. The integrated Vega 7 graphics (with 7 compute units) scored 5446 points whereas the discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX 250’s scored only 4655 points.

The Zen 2 based processor also nails it on the CPU performance, scoring a massive 10,404 points which are in fact on par with the 65W Intel Skylake Core i7-6700 desktop CPU. The Ryzen 4000 mobile processors will provide incredible performance not only on the CPU but also GPU front and nows it’s evident after these leaks.

Even though the new MX330 and MX350 mobile graphics are out but the efficiency of the new AMD APUs and their cost will give users the freedom to get both performances on the CPU and the GPU front without paying extra bucks for the discrete graphics.

If you are an AMD fan and have been waiting for this moment for them to show complete dominance on both the CPU and GPU front for the mobile processors, the time has come, all wrapped under a mere 15W TDP envelope.

It will be interesting to see how Intel hits back with its Tiger Lake chips with integrated Gen12 iGPU. Also, these scores and numbers shall differ and can even improve if the laptops implement the Ryzen 4000 processors properly, can’t wait to test them out!

Samsung starts mass production of industry’s first 16GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM

0

Samsung has recently announced that it has begun the mass production of the industry’s first 16-gigabyte (GB) LPDDR5 mobile DRAM package for next-generation premium smartphones.

Even though such high mobile DRAM finds no application but to improve performance and for selling perspective, Samsung has already started the production of 16GB RAM units. These 16GB LPDDR5 RAM units offer:

  • A data transfer rate of 5,500 Mb/s which is almost 1.3 times faster than the previous mobile memory (LPDDR4X, 4266Mb/s).
  • Consists of eight 12GB chips and four 8GB chips, being equipped on the premium smartphones with twice the DRAM capacity you find in many high-end laptops and gaming PCs these days.
  • When compared to an 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, the new mobile LPDDR5 DRAM delivers more than 20% energy savings in spite of providing up to twice the capacity.

As Samsung continues to expand LPDDR5 mobile DRAM production at its Pyeongtaek site, the company plans to mass-produce 16Gb LPDDR5 products based on third-generation 10nm-class (1z) process technology in the second half of this year, in line with the development of a 6,400Mb/s chipset

Samsung

Even though there’s no mention that the latest 16GB LPDDR5 DRAM should be the one that is used in Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra that was introduced earlier this month.
