Intel’s upcoming Xe-HPG Gaming GPUs will be based on TSMC’s 6nm process

0

The chip giant Intel is stepping into the consumer gaming GPU market in the upcoming year with a lot of promise. The new Xe-HPG GPUs will be produced at an external foundry, by the current leading company in this segment, TSMC.

Now, as per the Taiwanese based outlets, it seems that TSMC is confident enough in winning orders for Intel’s next-generation Xe-HPG GPUs. This is reported by IThome (via @harukaze5719), who says these new gaming GPUs from Intel will be produced at TSMC’s fabs.

The Taiwanese company is one of the few to manufacture bleeding-edge fabrication technologies, making it the biggest one in the world currently. These sources have claimed that Intel will be utilizing TSMC’s 6nm process node for its upcoming gaming GPUs.

This will not be an easy battle to get into as it has to compete against the likes of AMD’s new RDNA 2 GPUs and NVIDIA’s upcoming Ampere GPUs by the time they actually get available worldwide. Also if they do so utilize 6nm process node, these GPUs will be first ones to actually do so.

Both NVIDIA and AMD will use TSMC’s 7nm process for their upcoming GPUs while Intel will be opting for TSMC’s 6nm process directly. It will be making use of an advanced version of the EUV lithography tech for 6nm process.

Apple already in talks with TSMC to fabricate custom ARM chips for Macs

So this offers an 18% increased in logic density over TSMC’s 7nm (N7) process and is also compatible with 7nm design. This will obviously give an edge to these new Intel GPUs.

These Intel gaming graphics cards will be utilizing a standard packaging design that we find on other modern GPUs. So, even if Intel thought of using 7nm at first, as they will launch in 2021, they might be tempted to use 6nm as well because there will be no compatibility issues.

Hoax emergency call detection technology development gets a boost as the University of Southern Queensland receives $300k to spend

0

All the emergency call operators have to face so many hoax calls. It’s hard to detect that in real-time manually and also causes service delay to the needy people. In this pandemic condition, such things can be hilarious. To prevent that, the University of Southern Queensland received $300,000. This amount will spend to develop a hoax emergency call detection technology that can respond in real-time.

The amount is approved by the State Government’s COVID-19 Industry Research Fellowship and received by Computer Scientist Dr. Rajib Rana who is leading the entire project.

Dr. Rajib Rana
Dr. Rajib Rana

The power of Artificial Intelligence algorithms will be used to determine the distress levels in the callers’ voice by monitoring physiological cues like high respiratory rate and dry mouth so that the emergency call operator can prioritize. The detection process will be fully automatic.

“When someone is in real distress there are physiological changes that happen, and that really alters their speech production,” Dr. Rana said. “Usually those changes are really hard to imitate. So using artificial intelligence techniques we are trying to determine those changes in real time. It’s not going to replace a human specialist, but … based on the objective level of distress they can rightly forward them to an expert who can talk through the situation.” he added.

The system will be trialed, for the first time, by the Metro North Hospital and Health Service through its 1300MH mental health support call. This technology will be helpful, no doubt, during any kind of national disaster, as the volume of emergency calls increased.

Microsoft will deliver 10 GB of bandwidth at 560 GB/s, or 6GB at 336 GB/s. For storage, the Xbox Series X is using a custom NVME SSD with 1 TB of capacity. The SSD seems fast too, with 2.4 GB/s RAW, but that as much as doubles to 4.8 GB/s when the console uses compression with a custom hardware decompression block.

Xbox Series X price leaked

Microsoft has revealed everything about the Xbox except the price of the new console. This is the same case with Sony’s PS5. In the previous editions of their consoles, Sony’s PS4 was priced less than Xbox One and it gained the majority of the market. So both of them are keeping their lips closed about the pricing.

A recent news has come up to the surface which has leaked the price of Xbox Series X. Someone sent a screenshot of the Xbox Series X listed at a retail store. The Xbox Series X was listed for $599.

Although the source couldn’t be verified, it seems fair for the new Xbox to be priced at $599. This means Xbox Series S will be priced much lower at around $400. So Xbox would definitely have the chance to compete with Sony’s PlayStation on the price front.

There has been a lot of debate on this matter. People were excited to know how much the Xbox Series X will pinch their pocket. So you can now start planning to buy the Xbox Series X when it is up for pre-order or released in the last quarter of 2020.

Microsoft is expected to reveal some information about the much anticipated Xbox Series X this month, so stay tuned here to get the latest updates.

Asus Zenfone 7 official promo video shows a Full-view display

0

Asus finally revealed the launch date of the most awaited Asus Zenfone 7 series on August 26. The series is expected to come with two different smartphones – the vanilla version and the Pro version. The launch will be held in Taiwan and Asus official YouTube channel will broadcast the live stream which starts at 2 PM local time.

A recent tweet on its official Twitter account shows the first-ever promo video of the phone. The short video shows the full-view display of the phone. The last Zenfone has the world’s first flip camera and this might also flow down to this Zenfone 7 as well. Some reports also claim that both the Zenfone 7 models will come with flip cameras like Zenfone 6.

We can expect different Snapdragon chip-sets in both the Zenfone devices. It is anticipated that the vanilla version will come with Snapdragon 865 SoC whereas we can expect Snapdragon 865+ for the Pro version. There is also a hint in the official Livestream thumbnail, that the phones might retain the previous motorized flip selfie camera and this time might include quad camera setup.

Previously we had spotted the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro in source code of the kernel version. In the source code, we had explained how we found the chipsets of the two smartphones. Now, another source claims that the vanilla version had been spotted previously in the Geekbench listing with the Snapdragon processor and 16GB RAM. This time the phone is coming with a huge RAM. Other detailed specifications are still mysterious in for both the devices.

Big blow for PSG ahead of Champions League semi-final as Keylor Navas is injured

After some astonishing games in the quarter-finals now it’s time for some more exciting clashes, as the first semi-final of this year’s Champions League is going to start from today. In the first semi-final German club, RB Leipzig will face Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG has beaten Atalanta in the last round, courtesy of an injury-time comeback. Neymar’s tremendous display in the last fixture won it for the French giant. Neymar was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Week’. He attempted 16 dribbles aginst Atlanta, equalling the previous record set by Lionel Messi.

But there is an injury concern for the PSG side. PSG number 1 goalkeeper Keylor Navas was substituted in the semi-final after he pulled up a hamstring injury. The Costa Rican is an experienced goalkeeper and has won this competition multiple times in his tenure at Real Madrid.

On the other hand German side, RB Leipzig is doing a great job with their young side this season. They had beaten Atletico Madrid by 2-1 in the last round against all the odds. Leipzig’s young 33 years old manager Julian Nagelsmann, who once worked as a scout of PSG manager Thomas Tuchel, in his time at Augsburg in 2008.

Julian was forced to retire as a player for his injury and Thomas Tuchel requested him to work as a scout. That was just the start. Nagelsmann will relish the chance to knock his previous boss out of the Champions League. “Games against him are always interesting because he has a good idea of football,” Nagelsmann said of Tuchel last week. “Of course I was his player, but that was a long time ago. Coaching’s my game now, just like it’s his.”

So the stage is set. Can PSG change their fortunes in this competition this year? Or RB Leipzig will continue their dream run?

Official: Dream 11 is the title sponsor of IPL 2020

Chinese smartphone manufacturer, VIVO has pulled out of IPL 2020 title sponsorship deal due to the increasing India-China tension. VIVO was supposed to pay BCCI Rs 440 crores for each edition of IPL. So it was a massive blow for the Indian cricket board.

Since then BCCI has been on the lookout for a new title sponsor of IPL. BCCI had set a deadline till 14th August for the interested companies to submit their Expression Of Interest (EOI).

BCCI has now confirmed today that Dream 11 will be the official title sponsor of IPL 2020. Dream 11 will pay Rs 222 crore for IPL 2020.

Dream 11 has signed a three-year contract with BCCI for the IPL title sponsorship deal but if VIVO returns for the next edition of IPL then Dream 11’s contract will be terminated.

If VIVO doesn’t return then, Dream 11 would continue to be the title sponsor of IPL until 2023. They will pay BCCI Rs 240 crores for each of next two editions of IPL if VIVO doesn’t return and they continue as the title sponsor of IPL.

Tata Sons was reported to be winning the race for this deal but surprisingly Dream 11 has been the winner with the highest bid followed by Byju’s (Rs 201 crores) and Unacademy (Rs 171 crores). It seems unclear whether Tata participated in the bid at all.

The deal with Dream 11 is half the amount of the deal with VIVO. Owing to current market conditions, BCCI decided to go for as low as 50% of the existing deal of Rs 440 crores per season.

The new deal also comes as a huge blow for all eight IPL franchises. BCCI used to pay 50% of the total amount it receives among all eight franchises. Each franchise received Rs 55 crore in IPL 2019 but that value will come down to as low as Rs 27.75 crore in IPL 2020.

BCCI will also get two other companies, Unacademy and Cred on-board as the official partners of IPL, which will give them another Rs 70-80 crores. So in total, they raised Rs 300 crores from new sponsorship deals compared to the loss of Rs 440 crores due to the VIVO pull-out. In this current financial conditions, these numbers seem pretty good.

BCCI has almost finalized all the sponsor deals so they will now fully focus on hosting the IPL 2020 in UAE from 19th September.
