Top 10 players you didn’t know played for Real Madrid

0

Real Madrid is held as the pinnacle of club football. Los Blancos have won the Champions League a world-high 13 times. Throughout their history, they have been the most dominant force in Europe and have had some of the greatest names in world football don the white shirt of Real Madrid.

However, not all who make it to Madrid manage to represent the club regularly. So, let’s look at the top 10 players that you probably didn’t know played for Real Madrid

10. Alvaro Negredo

Negredo never made it to the first team but played 65 times for Casilla between 2005-2007. He is best known for his time at Sevilla from 2009 to 13 where he scored 85 goals in 182 appearances.

9. Borja Valero

One of the key factors in Inter Milan making it to the Champions League again, Valero is now a part of Fiorentina. He was at Real Madrid from 2006-07 and only made two appearances before moving to Fiorentina.

8. Ezequiel Garay

Garay was at Real Madrid from 2008-11 but never really managed to become a regular at the club. He won the Copa del Rey in 10-11 and made 31 appearances at Madrid before joining Benfica.

7. Juanfran

It is quite hard to think that an Atletico fan favourite was once part of their city rivals. After a lack of game time during his spell at Real from 2004-06, Juanfran moved to Atletico and spent 8 years with the Rojiblancos.

6. Filipe Luis

Another great Atletico player that was once a part of Real, Filipe Luis made 37 appearances for Castilla and none for the first team. He then moved out to Atletico and is now at Flamengo in Brazil.

5. Nuri Sahin

Before gaining a fan following for his work at Dortmund, Sahin was a part of Real Madrid from 2011-14. His career was plagued by injuries, but he is now playing for Antalyaspor.

4. Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso is a third-generation player, and his grandfather and father were pretty highly rated in Spain. He only made 1 appearance in a Real shirt before moving to Bolton, Fiorentina and now, Chelsea.

3. Fabinho

Currently at Liverpool following a brilliant spell at Monaco, the Brazilian was once a part of Real Madrid. He only made 1 appearance from 2012-13 before moving away.

2. Juan Mata

Mata never really made an appearance for the first team but was part of Castilla from 2003-07 before joining Valencia. He then moved out to Chelsea and became one of the best-attacking players in the world.

1. Samuel Eto’o

While it might come off as a shocker given that Eto’o was so good for Barcelona, he was at Madrid from 1997-2000 and made only a couple of appearances for the club. Regarded as the best African player of all time, Eto’o went on to win trebles with Barca as well as Inter.

IPL 2020: Virat Kohli fined Rs. 12 lakhs in RCB’s loss against KXIP

Having a bad day? Well, think about Royal Challenger Bangalore and Indian team captain Virat Kohli.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Kings XI Punjab yesterday on day 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB was considered a probable favourite keeping in mind their last match and recent form.

Kohli won the toss and elected to field so that his spinners won’t have to deal with the dew in the second innings. KXIP captain KL Rahul, however, had other plans as he smashed an unbeaten 132 to take KXIP to a mammoth score of 206. The star-studded RCB batting lineup couldn’t do much as well as they castled for only 109 runs. Kohli dropped two catches of Rahul and scored only 1 run as RCB faced a huge and embarrassing defeat by 97 runs!

Kohli got fined!

Poor performance by him and the team and dropped catches weren’t the only things that went wrong for Kohli. He was fined a massive sum of 12 lakh rupees! The fine was imposed because of slow over-rate.

The first innings lasted an hour and 51 minutes. This was considered an offence under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.

KXIP captain KL Rahul, on the other hand, had a great day. He scored an unbeaten 132 off just 69 balls which included 14 fours and 7 massive sixes! He also made the record of the highest score by an Indian batsman in the IPL. The best part of his innings was his extension of the classic textbook shots. Without much slogging, he was able to take on express bowlers like Umesh Yadav and Dale Steyn.

The pace bowlers, especially in the depth, failed RCB again. Steyn conceded a sum of 57 runs in his 4 overs. Umesh Yadav was again expensive as he gave away 35 runs in his 3 overs. On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal was again fantastic. Navdeep Saini was also able to restrict the flow of runs a bit. Shivam Dubey tried to do the same but wasn’t spared at the end. RCB may consider making some changes like giving chance to the expensive buy Chris Morris. They can also have Mohammed Siraj in the side.

French Open 2020: Everything you need to know and how to watch the matches live in India?

0

The French Open qualifiers are currently underway, with the main tournament i.e. First Round due to begin on 27th September. Seeded 1 and 2 in the competition respectively, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are expected to start as favourites. But if the recent US Open is any indication, then the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev are going to put up a real tough challenge to these powerhouses of tennis. But as has been the case for some time now, the real “King Of Clay” Rafael Nadal will want to bounce back with another trophy here. However, one big name that is set to be out due to injury, is the legendary Roger Federer.

Earlier today, it was reported that the attendance per day for the French Open is set to be limited to 1000. This will be done in line with the health protocols set down by the French Tennis Federation as well as the key personnel at the Roland Garros stadium. It means that compared to last year with attendances of 15,500 at a time, a meagre sum of 1000 spectators represents just 6% attendance. The massive losses incurred from gate receipts are definitely going to hurt the sport’s operations. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, desperate times do indeed call for desperate measures.

However, the good part is that the organisers have been able to put up a tournament for tennis fans around the world to enjoy the action. From a financial perspective, the positive is that broadcasting revenues will not take that big a hit and will reinforce the French Open’s coffers.

It has now been confirmed that tennis fans in India can watch the French Open on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports Select 2. Aside from television, one can also live stream the games on the Disney+ Hotstar application. In conclusion, it proves to be an interesting tournament amidst difficult times, but the big challenge is – can anyone stop Rafael Nadal from winning yet again?

West Ham United and Aston Villa keen on Chelsea striker Abraham

1

Since the signing of Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham has faced some stiff competition in the starting XI. Olivier Giroud has also shown some good form since play resumed post-lockdown.

With three very talented strikers at his disposal, Frank Lampard has some serious selection problems. And it is safe to say that at least one of the three strikers will be starved for minutes in this campaign.

Keeping that in mind, fellow London based rivals West Ham United and Abraham’s former club Aston Villa are reportedly willing to lure the forward away from Stamford Bridge with the promise of guaranteed minutes for the young England international.

The 22-year-old only had 11 minutes of Premier League action in the two matchdays of the 20/21 campaign. While he racked up two assists and a goal in his performance against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, it is clear that the gaffer rates him below Werner at the very least.

While Aston Villa could be Abraham’s preferred destination it looks like Chelsea would prefer to negotiate a deal with West Ham United.

The reason being the Blues’ pursuit for their former player and now West Ham midfielder Declan Rice. Chelsea have been linked with the England international throughout the summer and even well before it. Should Chelsea negotiate a deal with the Hammers, they would look to try and prize Rice away from the London stadium.

On the other hand, Aston Villa are a team which could use some serious quality upfront to supplement the goal contributions of star midfielder Jack Grealish. Villa manager Sean Dyche rates Tammy Abraham very highly. Abraham enjoyed a very fruitful spell with Villa, spending the 18/19 season on loan from Chelsea guiding the former European champions to the Premier League once again

The academy graduate Abraham is Chelsea through and through. But there is a chance he could move away from Stamford Bridge given the promise of minutes on the pitch.
