Manchester City vs Liverpool – Can The Reds Reclaim Their Lead At The Top of The Table?

The biggest clash of the Premier League weekend will take place at the Etihad Stadium, when Manchester City take on defending champions Liverpool. It will be a test of where Guardiola’s men stand against a relatively weakened Liverpool, who are without a few key players. 

So will City trump Liverpool to get in touching distance of the league’s top spot? We take a brief look in our match preview – 

TEAM NEWS 

Manchester City come into the game with a renewed Gabriel Jesus and Nathan Ake, who seem to have gained a good amount of match fitness. But, Sergio Aguero and Benjamin Mendy will most probably remain on the sidelines for this one. 

Jürgen Klopp confirmed that Liverpool would be without Thiago and Joel Matip, who is bruising with minor injuries of their own. Van Dijk will obviously be a big miss, as he continues with rehabilitation from his ACL injury.

TACTICAL MATCH-UPS

The battle between Raheem Sterling and Trent Alexander Arnold will be a fascinating subset to watch out for. When City played the Reds last time at Anfield, Arnold was able to keep the English winger quiet without letting him create much chances. But, City are slowly on the rise and this would mean a change in strategy for Sterling who could drift in far often to trouble youngster Nathaniel Phillips.

Sadio Mane against new signing Ruben Dias will also be an interesting fight at the other end. The Portuguese centre-back has so far put in decent shifts but keeping Mane silent over the entirety of the 90 minutes will be a challenging task for him. 

CONCLUSION

City needs to win today in order to get within 2 points of Liverpool, despite having a game in hand. Guardiola’s men have been on a three-game winning streak that includes results against Marseille, Sheffield and Olympiakos. But, Liverpool is no slouches either and will look to take their own winning momentum into the match and give City a hard time in taking home the full 3 points.

City has an aggregate scoreline command over Liverpool of 11-1, which means home advantage can be crucial for the Sky Blues here. If they can keep the likes of Mane and Salah quiet and negate the effect from the midfield trio, City can win a tight game.

2-1 in favour of Man City. They will have just about enough firepower to beat Liverpool, who are missing a few players themselves.

Bruno Fernandes is clearly the best United player right now with the right set of mentality. Since joining Manchester United back in January, he has completely transformed the midfield.

He has been so good for United that they went unbeaten last season after the league resumed after the Coronavirus break. They finished 3rd last season.

This season’s home results have been awful for United, but when playing away from home, they are a completely different side. Bruno now has a hand in 15 Premier League goals in his first 10 away matches, which is the most in Premier League history.

On Saturday against Everton, he headed the ball home before curling the ball into the net for his second goal. In the dying minutes of the game, United got a counter-attack.

Many thought that Fernandes would go for his hattrick and there was a good chance of him getting it, but he opted to pass the ball instead to Cavani, who scored his first Manchester United goal.

Fernandes told BBC Sport: “The point is winning the game. [I set up Edinson Cavani because] for a striker it is important to score for his confidence, he will be important for us and the first goal will give him confidence.”

“I don’t need to think about a hat-trick, I need to think about the future.”

“Every game is important, we are not good in the league so these three points are important. We have a game in hand so we can go closer to the top of the table. We are not the best team now, and we are not the worst team after Istanbul.”

“We will get better if we do the right things.”

Fernandes’ mentality is truly magnificent and keeping the team first in these type of conditions clearly shows how he has become the leader of the team.

Sandesh Jhingan is one of the finest defenders of India. Former Kerala Blasters FC defender and the captain left the club after the end of last season. He then joined ATK Mohun Bagan FC on a free transfer. The defending champion was quick to approach the defender and signed him.

As per reports, in the last summer transfer window, the 27-year-old defender got an offer from the UK. He agreed to move to the UK as well. But because of COVID-19 restriction, he couldn’t travel to the UK. In the meantime, ATK Mohun Bagan FC approached him with a top offer. He immediately accepted the offer.

Sandesh Jhingan is two times runners up in ISL with Kerala Blasters FC. He also represented India 36 times and scored 4 goals for the country.

ATK Mohun Bagan’s manager Antonio Lopez Habas is happy with his new defenders. The addition of Sandesh and Tiri surely made ATKMB’s backline stronger.

In the training session, Habas was seen to pay extra attention to his defense. He said, “For me, every player is important. I want to build a team of players who give his best when picked.”

“Being a long league, we have to be careful of injury card problems. So, it’s about keeping players ready for every position.”- he added.

Borussia Dortmund 2-3 Bayern Munich: Der Klassiker review

Bayern Munich managed to push Dortmund right off the top of the Bundesliga mountain with a 3-2 victory against the hosts. 

The Bavarian giants now stand alone at the top of the Bundesliga with 18 points from 7 games. On the other hand, Dortmund slump to third, behind RB Leipzig who enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory against Freiburg.

First Half 

Erling Haaland had a brilliant chance to open the scoring 24 minutes into the match, but his shot on goal was off target. Robert Lewandowski managed to tap in an amazing cross from Serge Gnabry shortly after, but his goal was ruled out for a marginal offside by VAR. 

Joshua Kimmich was taken off after half an hour as he picked up an injury following a challenge made by him on Erling Haaland. Corentin Tolisso replaced the German in midfield. 

Marco Reus eventually put Dortmund in front as a brilliant low cross from Raphael Guerreiro ended up crashing into the roof of the net as the German shot the ball beyond Manuel Neuer. 

After Thomas Delaney gave away a clumsy free-kick at the edge of the box, David Alaba’s shot found the back of the net in injury time following a deflection. 

Second Half 

Haaland had a chance right off the bat to make it 2-1 but missed again. On the flip side, Bayern got off to a great second half start as Robert Lewandowski managed to get his goal following a cross from Lucas Hernandez. 

Leroy Sane came off the bench and found the back of the net in ten minutes, following a neat break assisted by Lewandowski. 

Erling Haaland finally managed to get his goal after Guerreiro found the forward making a great run behind the opposition line. The Norwegian slotted the ball past Neuer to give the hosts some hope late in the game. 

However, it was too little, too late as another Lewandowski goal was ruled out by VAR and it prevented Dortmund from losing 4-2 on the day. 

Man of the Match: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

The Polish striker could have had himself a hat-trick against his former club, but the first and the last goals scored by him were ruled out for offside. He eventually managed to head in a great cross from the left-wing, and also provided Sane with an assist to seal all three points for the treble winners.

Jordan Pickford has endured a shocking spell between the sticks and is single-handedly responsible for ending Virgil Van Dijk’s season. He almost caused another blunder with his clumsy effort to stop Harry Maguire against United yesterday but escaped with no punishment once more. 

The England international was dropped against Newcastle, and the results were not too great even when Robin Olsen started in goal. 

James Rodriguez suffered from a minor injury before the Newcastle game and was dropped. Richarlison was suspended for three games after his sending off in the Merseyside derby. 

Ancelotti has been without two of his best players in recent weeks, both of whom have proven to be very important for the Toffees. 

Everton fans are sadly, used to this kind of drop in form somewhere along the season. However, there is still a long way to go, and as the Premier League has proven to be unpredictable time and time again. 

Don Carlo hopes that the international break will give the Merseyside blues some valuable time to regroup. It would also allow the injured players time to get their focus back into the game as the league takes a break for a few weeks. 

Everton will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat against Manchester United when they take on Fulham away from home.

Intel’s next-line of CPUs leaked online

A new rumor has been making rounds on the internet that states Intel has at least three lineups planned for launch after its 11th Gen Rocket Lake. It includes the 12th Gen Alder Lake, 13th Gen Meteor Lake, and the 14th Gen Lunar Lake processors.

Alder Lake

The Intel Alder Lake family is officially confirmed to be the 12th Generation Core family and will be launched in the second quarter of 2020, approved by Intel. However, according to sources, Alder Lake will be launching by 2022. The processor will reportedly offer around 5 GHz boost clocks and will also be outfitted with 32 Gen 12 Execution Units, which equals 256 cores. The GPU will have improved performance over the existing Gen 12 based Xe GPUs.

The lineup is expected to be configured in the following configurations:

  • 8/16 + 8 (Core i9)
  • 8/16 + 4 (Core i7)
  • 6/12 + 4 (Core i5)
  • 6/12 + 0 (Core i3 / Pentium)

The Alder Lake CPUs will be the first desktop processor family to feature a 10nm process node. The CPUs will come with standard high-performance ‘Cove’ cores and smaller yet efficient ‘Atom’ cores.

Intel has released the following update regarding its 2021 architecture lineup:

Intel Golden Cove (Core) Architecture:

  • Improve Single-Threaded Performance (IPC)
  • Improve Artificial Intelligence (AI) Performance
  • Improve Network/5G Performance
  • Enhanced Security Features

Intel Gracemont (Atom) Architecture:

  • Improve Single-Threaded Performance (IPC)
  • Improve Frequency (Clock Speeds)
  • Improve Vector Performance

Meteor Lake

The Intel Meteor Lake will be based on a new line of Cove core architecture. It is rumored to be the ‘Redwood Cove’ and will supposedly be based on a 7nm EUV process node. According to sources, the Meteor Lake CPUs will be the first CPU generation from Intel to ditch the ring bus interconnect architecture. The CPU will also feature a fully 3D-Stacked design and utilize an I/O die sourced from an external fab.

The CPU will feature support on the LGA 1700 socket, which is the same socket used by Alder Lake processors. It will have DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 5.0 support. The NVMe support is expected to be limited to PCIe Gen 4 rather than PCIe Gen 5, which the platform will support, which is rather disappointing.

Lunar Lake

The Intel Lunar Lake family is expected to launch around 2023-2024. It will most likely replace the Meteor Lake lineup and will be Intel’s 14th Gen series. The Lunar Lake will come with Gen 12.9 graphics. On the other hand, the Alder Lake Desktop CPUs are listed with 12.2 & Meteor Lake with 12.722 Generations.

IPL 2020 Qualifier 2 – DC vs SRH: Match preview, Fantasy XI team, and prediction

Qualifier 2 will feature a heated clash as Delhi Capitals will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The stakes are high as the winner will solidify their seat in the IPL 2020 finals to take on the Mumbai Indians. The loser, on the other hand, will be eliminated from the tournament right away.

Capitals are coming off a disappointing loss against Mumbai Indians while SRH is coming off a close win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Interestingly, DC started the season extremely consistently, however, lost their way as they’re coming off four defeats in their last five games. SRH, on the other hand, struggled earlier but found momentum at the right time and are coming off four consecutive wins.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals started the league phase really well, however, ended up losing their way mid-way. Shikhar Dhawan found some form, however, will have to show consistency. Prithvi Shaw will also have to pull his socks up and perform, or DC may even replace him with Shimron Hetmyer and maybe bring back Tushar Deshpande or Harshal Patel for Daniel Sams.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Marcus Stoinis will have to show consistency which they displayed in the earlier phase of the tournament. Their bowling has been phenomenal with Kagiso Rabada being the second-highest wicket-taker and Anrich Nortje being among the wickets as well.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH would be extremely proud of their win over RCB. Skipper David Warner has been in great form, however, the injury of Wriddhiman Saha has been an issue.

Their lower middle-order namely Samad and Priyam Garg should take responsibility as well. Their lack of form puts unnecessary pressure on David Warner, Manish Pandey, and Kane Williamson.

Their bowling, however, has been great. Jason Holder has been a breath of fresh air for them. Rashid Khan has been picking up timely wickets. Sandeep Sharma and Natarajan have been doing their respective roles.

DAVID WARNER (10.5) (C) – David Warner has been in phenomenal form and has been consistent as well. He’ll be our captain.

JASON HOLDER (9.5) (VC) – Holder picked up wickets consistently and can bat as well. He has been a prime reason for SRH coming this far. He’ll be our vice-captain.

RISHABH PANT (8.5) – Pant has been getting starts but he’ll have to convert them into a bigger score.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN (10) – Shikhar Dhawan found some form, however, will have to show consistency.

MANISH PANDEY (9) – Pandey has been fairly consistent this season. However, he’ll have to take more responsibility.

AJINKYA RAHANE (8.5) – Rahane looked great in his last match against RCB where he scored a match-winning fifty.

KAGISO RABADA (9.5) – Rabada has been the second-highest wicket-taker of the season so far. He’ll be our captain.

RASHID KHAN (9.5) – Rashid Khan has always been among wickets. He bowled one of the most impressive spells in the history of IPL taking 3 wickets and conceding only seven runs in his four overs.

ANRICH NORTJE (9) – Nortje has been continuously clocking over 150 kmph and has always provided wickets.

SANDEEP SHARMA (8.5) – Sharma has been in good form and has been consistently among wickets.

SHAHBAZ NADEEM (8) – Nadeem has been really good and is an important part of the resurging SRH team.

PREDICTION

Momentum has always shown to play a huge factor especially in T20 cricket where consistency is considered to be a key factor. Sunrisers Hyderabad will therefore defeat the Delhi Capitals.
