Manchester United ends Manchester City’s winning run

Manchester United stops the unbeaten run of their neighbour Manchester City. The Red Devils beat the Pep Guardiola’s side by 2-0.

Manchester City was 28 games unbeaten in all competition. Manchester United travelled to Etihad to stop the league leader’s flawless run.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took the lead at the first minute of the game as Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot. Anthony Martial was brought down in the box within 40 seconds of the game by Gabriel Jesus. The Red Devils doubled the lead in the second half as Luke Shaw scored for Manchester United.

The Citizens tried their best but failed to break the deadlock. With this win, Manchester United is now in second position and 11 points behind their neighbour in the league. After the match, Pep Guardiola said, “Congratulations Manchester United first of all.”

“Ten games left, now arrive the important part of the season. The last 10 games are important and we start next Wednesday. We will try to win as many games as possible to be champions.”

“Against West Ham we played much, much worse than today. Against West Ham, we didn’t deserve to win and maybe today we didn’t deserve to lose. We were not good in front of goal, our strikers were not brilliant today but it happens.”

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about the title hope of Manchester United. Ole replied, “No, we just take one game time. They are too far ahead to think we can catch them. They have been excellent. Even today they put you under so much pressure.”

Manchester United will face West Ham United on Sunday whereas Manchester City will take Southampton in the midweek.

A return to the Premier League at this point will surely depict a very different version of the striker, who has come a long way in the second division.

The Norwich City man had a blistering start to the 19/20 campaign but eventually fizzled out. However, since returning to the Championship, he has returned to form and is spearheading Norwich’s campaign to return to the Premier League. 

Should any Premier League clubs need an experienced striker, they can turn to the 31-year-old as a short term option.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is set to add another record to his collection and join an esteemed group of managers when Manchester City complete their procession to the Premier League title.

Manchester City is now leading the Premier League table and currently 11 points clear of the second position Manchester United. The Red Devils need a miracle to surpass their rival to win their 21st league title which is quite impossible.

However, if Manchester City finally claims the league title then Pep Guardiola will become the third manager in Premier League history after Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, to reclaim the title during a single stint with any given club.

Manchester City won the title in the 2018-19 season. But they failed to defend the title as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool broke their curse and claimed the title after 30 years. But City has the chance to snatch their trophy back.

Guardiola was asked about this potential record in the press conference. In response, the Spaniard said, “I don’t know when I sign to make history.”

“Just to win one game. Then the second one. If we are able to play the team like we want to play, this is the only target. Titles are a consequence for something much deeper.”

“When I arrived it was scary, I have doubts if we were able to do it. I know what we wanted to do but didn’t know if we were able.”

“I’m not a guy who imagines what happens. The reality is our team face a good team and when we achieve it, ask me the question how it feels and I will answer.”- he added.

The contract situation surrounding Sergio Ramos has been up in the air for months now, and there has been an update from Marca regarding the issue which sets a deadline as to when we will have an answer about whether he will stay or leave the club. 

The Spanish publication has reported that Real Madrid, and in particular, President Florentino Perez hopes to tie down Sergio Ramos to the club for at least another year. The same report indicates that Madrid are offering him a one year deal with the option of extending it for another season if the club see it fit to do so.

A lot has been said regarding the situation between the two parties, but the fact that Ramos is holding out for two years while Real are offering him only one still stands, and remains unchanged. As talked about before, Paris Saint-Germain are the only club who have expressed any realistic interest in the centre-back whereas Ramos prioritises remaining loyal to the club that he captains. However, considering that he is a seasoned professional, Madrid must respect his standards and demands if they hope to have him stay at the club.

In one of the most highly anticipated and crucial Madrid derbies in recent memory, Real and Atletico shared a point each as the scoreline read 1-1 at the final whistle. Star strikers Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema both found the back of the net for their respective sides to finish things level at the end of regulation time. 

Luis Suarez managed to put the hosts in the lead early into the match, and beat Thibaut Courtois with a brilliant finish from a difficult angle to further boost his chances of finishing as the top scorer this season. 

Throughout the game, Atletico had plenty of chances to put the game to bed. In particular, Angel Correa and João Felix both had clear cut chances to extend the Rojiblancos’ lead over their city rivals. However, all those chances were squandered and will be looked back on with great regret now that they have dropped two crucial points. 

Karim Benzema scored late in the game to rescue a point for Real Madrid in a match where they had been well below par. 

Both goalkeepers offered outstanding displays of their world-class talents with Jan Oblak saving a point blank range effort from Karim Benzema (supplied by a perfect cross from Vinicius Junior), followed by a second attempt which Oblak did well to stop. 

Thibaut Courtois, too, offered many impressive saves to keep Real in the game and he did exactly that despite being beaten early. 

The LaLiga title race becomes even more competitive now that there are only three points between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at the top. However, the latter has an extra game to play to extend their lead while Real Madrid lag five points behind Atletico, which could extend to eight.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have been crowned the Champions of the Scottish Premiership for the first time in ten years, usurping arch rivals Celtic from their stronghold on the title for nine consecutive years. 

The Gers have not lost a single game in the league this season, and have won 28 games while drawing 4. They still have six games remaining in the league and will be looking to go unbeaten throughout the season to put themselves alongside Arsenal as unbeatable throughout the campaign.

Steven Gerrard’s team could finish the league with over 100 points, having 18 points remaining to be played for. They currently have 88 points from 32 games and have scored an impressive 77 goals en route to the title victory. However, rather unbelievably, they have conceded only 9 goals in 32 games, something that will go down in the history books. 

“I’m lost for words in how I describe my team,” manager Gerrard told Rangers TV on Saturday.

“I don’t think while I’m representing this club there will ever be a bigger three points

“I’ve only been part of it for three [years], but I can certainly relate and I’ve got that feeling and that affection with the fans and I know what they have been through.”

The Glasgow club were mathematically declared as champions after Old Firm rivals Celtic were held to a 0-0 draw against Dundee United, who hosted the former champions. Celtic will have to watch Rangers lift the title from second place, currently having 68 points from 32 games, 20 behind the new Champions.

Ubisoft did announce in the last month that Division 2 could live longer than it was expected, as it’s going to receive more content in 2021. Massive Entertainment, the Division 2 developer disclosed a bit more about what we can expect, including a new model that will be “entirely new” to the Division.
