AirAsia plans launch of Flying-Taxi business in 2022, says CEO Tony Fernandes

Malaysian low-cost airline AirAsia Group Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer has said that the company is seeking to launch a flying-taxi business as soon as next year.

“We are working on that right now,” Tony Fernandes, AirAsia’s CEO, and co-founder said Saturday, according to Bloomberg. “I think we are about a year and a half away from launching.”

As part of the Youth Economic Forum, Fernandes was speaking in an online discussion.

With traveling almost coming to a complete halt during the pandemic-inflicted year of 2020, the airline business took quite a hit; AirAsia has opted to expand, seeing a boom in business. It launched a “super app” last year that is a one-stop app for entertainment, shopping, payments, and travel services.

“We took it as an opportunity, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to recast your business, re-look at things,” the CEO said.

AirAsia is also working on its own e-hailing services that it expects to start in April, Fernandes said. The information he provided about the flying taxis, which the company hopes to begin providing next year, will come with as many as four seats and be powered by a quadcopter.

Separately on Saturday, the company announced a partnership with the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre, a state agency, to develop an urban drone delivery service.

While AirAsia is not sitting back and looking for further opportunities to expand its services into new areas, Fernandes has an optimistic viewpoint that air travel will soon rebound with vaccination programs’ rollout. The Kuala Lumpur-based company offers low-cost flights linking 22 countries, mostly in the Asia-Pacific region.

“I hope interstate travel will start in the next two to three weeks” within Malaysia, he said. He expects that by July or August, international borders will start opening.

IFAB clarifies the rules of handball to remove controversy

0

The 135th International Football Association Board (IFAB) AGM was held on Friday. The AGM discussed handball, offside and concussion protocols, among the other topics at the meeting.

The biggest headline-grabber from the IFAB AGM meeting was the clarification on handball. This has been one of the most controversial things in football after the introduction of VAR.

IFAB has now clarified that the laws and accidental handball leading to a goal will no longer see the goal revoked.

“Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence.”

Handball should now only be awarded when:

  • a player deliberately handballs
  • the ball touches the arm/hand when it has made the body “unnaturally bigger”
  • a goal comes directly from a handball or immediately after a handball

Another big thing is that a change to the offside rule is also being considered. This will be officialized before the next season. But the VAR will definitely be there as according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, VAR has improved the sport.

Infantino said (via Marca): “You will not hear me say anything negative about VAR,”

“But not because I don’t want to, but because justice is everything, to have a correct decision, and I can just repeat that.”

“We have so many more correct decisions due to VAR and we need to recognise that.”

“This is the most positive impact of VAR in football.”

India becomes the No 1 Test team and reaches the ICC World Test Championship final

0

India hosted England for a 4-match Test series. England shocked the hosts and won the very first match. But, Team India took the defeat in their stride and made a massive comeback in the second test and levelled the series 1-1.

After that, there was no looking back as they won the Day/Night third test match and finally won the fourth test match by an innings and 25 runs today. India won the series by 3-1 and became the No 1 ranked Test team in the world.

This also ensured that India qualified for the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final. New Zealand had already booked their place in the final.

India will now play the final of ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand from 18th to 22nd June at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. 23rd June has been kept as a reserve day.

The final was originally scheduled to be held from 10th to 14th June. However, it was postponed keeping in mind the proximity between the ICC World Test Championship final and the Indian Premier League 2021 final (dates are yet to be officially announced, but it usually happens in that time period). The players may also have to stay in quarantine before playing the ICC World Test Championship final.

So keeping all these things in mind, 18th June has been decided for the start of the final test match. It would be an exciting Test match when two of the best captains, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson, take on each other in the home of cricket.

Luke Shaw is the third-best creator in Europe’s top 5 leagues

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is the third-best creators in Europe’s top 5 league this season. Only Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund [36] and Filip Kostic of Eintracht Frankfurt [35] has created more chances than Luke Shaw [34]. Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount [32] is in 4th, while Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is in the 5th position.

Manchester United signed Alex Telles last summer from Porto. Some people thought the Red Devils had chosen the new man over long-time first choice, Luke Shaw, in the position. However, things have not gone according to how they were expected in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad as Luke Shaw turned things around.

The English left-back has registered six assists so far this season, five in the Premier League and one in the Champions League. It equals his total of the last three seasons combined. Shaw challenged Alex Telles in a ‘healthy fight’ for the first team football and emerged as the most creative full-back in the Premier League in the process.

Luke Shaw was the ‘Player of the Month’ for Manchester United in February. His performance for the club caught the eye of England boss Garry Southgate. Luke Shaw has been called up in the England squad for the forthcoming batch of fixtures.

England used to play in with a back three, so Shaw would be required to operate as a wing-back. He is now the preferred choice over Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell. Shaw’s attacking ability will help England to create more chances.

Reliance Jio vs Tata Sky vs Airtel: Best Broadband Plan Under Rs. 1000

1

A Wi-Fi with fast internet speed and connectivity at a reasonable price is still in high demand as a lot of people are still working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Three broadband connections stand out, providing cheap high internet speed plans as well as offering free access to OTT apps and unlimited data within the plan. Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio, Tata Sky, and Airtel XStream. Here’s a quick comparison of the three broadband connections and their plans available under Rs 1,000.

JioFiber Vs Tata Sky Vs Airtel Xstream: Best broadband plans

JioFiber broadband plans under Rs 1,000

See the source image

Reliance has a Rs 699/month plan for JioFiber broadband that gives customers 100Mbps internet speeds, unlimited data, and voice calls. The higher value pack of Rs 999 offers 150Mbps speed along with OTT subscription benefits with free access to Amazon Prime Video, ALT Balaji, Discovery+, Disney+Hotstar VIP, Hoichoi, Sun NXT, Eros Now, JioCinema, LionsGate Play, ShemarooMe, Sony LIV, Voot Select, Voot Kids, Zee5 Premium, and more. It supports unlimited voice calls as well.

Do note that both the unlimited data broadband plans only offer 3,300GB of data on a monthly basis and after its expiry, you will be able to browse content at the lowest internet speed.

Tata Sky broadband plans under Rs 1,000

See the source image

Tata Sky, at the cost of Rs 850 per month is offering 100Mbps speed. One can buy the Rs 1,797 broadband plan (50Mbps), which is the price for three months. At an extra Rs 100, those who want 150Mbps speed can get it for Rs 950 per month.

The price is higher than Rs 1,000 for 200Mbps, 300Mbps, and 500Mbps broadband plans. An added benefit as per the company’s official website is that Tata Sky doesn’t charge extra for the Wi-Fi router and the installation is also free.

Worthy of note is that similar to the JioFiber plans, there is a limit of 3,300GB of data for the month and once the provided data is exhausted, you will get reduced speed. The plans also support the data rollover facility.

Airtel Xstream broadband plans under Rs 1,000

See the source image

Airtel Xstream plan of Rs 799 is one of the better cheap plans up for grabs. It offers unlimited data at up to 100Mbps speed bundled with a complimentary Airtel Xstream Box (provided you click on the Xstream box option too at the time of selecting the broadband plan), which offers access to TV channels and OTT content from Airtel’s Xstream app, which includes over 10,000 movies and shows. The plan comes with an Airtel Thanks benefit, unlimited local and STD calls, and also a Shaw Academy subscription.

One can also buy the Rs 999 Airtel Xstream Fiber plan, which provides unlimited data at up to 200Mbps speed with all the benefits similar to the Rs 799 broadband plan. The exclusivity of the plan is that it ships with a free Amazon Prime Video subscription, Disney+ Hotstar membership, and Zee5 subscription.

Airtel XStream and JioFiber have an upper hand over Tata Sky as both the former connections provide OTT subscriptions within their plan, something that Tata Sky has missing. However, it is a tough choice between Jio and Airtel with both providing some very good facilities at a cheap price. Airtel provides better speed and truly unlimited data with Jio providing more OTT subscriptions. Your choice will depend upon what you prioritize more.
