We can say that Microsoft has nothing to regret about gutting its Edge browser and rebuilding it around the same underlying engine, Chromium, which powers Google’s own Chrome browser. Edge usage is increasing at a phenomenal speed.

As per the reports of WindowsLatest, Edge is now in the second position after Chrome. Remarkably, a huge rate of people is migrating over. If we see the StatCounter’s numbers, then it is in third place behind Chrome and Safari, which shows Edge had an 8.03% share of the browser market in the last month.

Edge’s growth actually began the last June, when the new version was started to be rolled out by Microsoft to the Windows 10 users via Windows Update. If you have noticed, Edge is actually a nice browser these days; it’s pretty fast, supports a bunch of extensions, and also has some good features.

Google is stepping back from allowing third-party tracking cookies in favor of a web technology that is called Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC) that assembles users into groups.

“FLoC is a new approach to interest-based advertising that both improves privacy and gives publishers a tool they need for viable advertising business models. FLoC is still in development, and we expect it to evolve,” Google says.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation believes that “FLoC is a terrible idea” that usually “creates new privacy risks” for users. The share of Google’s browser market is so large that it wields power to come up with such decisions.

The Cupertino giant is expected to reveal the details on iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 along with other platforms at its 2021 WWDC event. However, before the official event, we are listening to some juicy details about the new oncoming operating systems.

From rumors, we hear that the latest iOS 15 will feature a redesigned Control Center and support for dual biometric authentication for Face ID as well as Touch ID.

According to sources, the iOS 15 will feature a new Control Center design that takes design cues from macOS Big Sur. The new design in iOS 15 will be compact and will support customization via drag and drop.

The new operating system will also reportedly have a new biometric authentication system in iOS 15, which will work with Face ID and Touch ID. The new biometric feature will be exclusive to the iPhone 13 and will require the user to authenticate their biometrics through Face ID and Touch ID to unlock their device. Thus, making the iPhone 13 the first iPhone ever to support Touch ID and Face ID.

Touch ID will potentially be an under-display sensor that will be infused into the front glass. It will be locked through a serial ID running through the A15 chip, which will power the new iPhone.

Within a day, the news spread like wildfire, where a tipster claimed Google will not launch the Pixel 5A anytime soon. This news made headlines and was traveling like wildfire, as everyone was shocked after waiting for so long for their most favorite brand to launch another smartphone this year.

Thank God, today we woke up with another good news where a Google Spokesperson gave his statement on this topic. According to the Spokesperson, “Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled. It will be available later this year in the U.S. and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced.”

Android Authority has shared this news in their Twitter account. The spokesperson of Google claims that the alleged Pixel 5A has not been canceled. He added in his statement that it would be available in the U.S and Japan by the end of this year. The time of its official announcement will be the same as the previous year when the A-series phone was announced.

A Google spokesperson interacting with 9to5Google refuted the rumors. Another mysterious phone from the US tech giants’ house has been found on India’s BIS certification bureau. BIS stands for Bureau of Indian Standards. 

This certification suggests an imminent launch of one of Google’s devices, and it could be none other than the Pixel 5a. This upcoming smartphone is codename GROM2. Though, there is still no confirmation that GROM2 is Google Pixel 5a or not but the market believes that it is the device that is the most likely to make its way into the Indian market.

He has shared an image of the rear cameras of the device where he claims it will come with a 108MP quad-camera capability. Whereas, in the image, we can see only three cameras, on that he clarifies by saying “There will be 3 physical cameras as seen in the render. But the setup will be a quad-functional camera (1 lens might do 2 jobs)”.

According to him one of the lenses will do two jobs, but still, we will move forward thinking of it as a triple rear camera setup, at least that is what we can see. The job done by one lens might be different but we are viewing the output from the same display. So, it might not matter how many camera lenses the company is providing, the camera should do the work properly, this is what everyone wants. As per Mukul, this phone will have a 32MP front selfie camera.

With a 108MP camera sensor at the back and one 32MP sensor at the front, this smartphone is surely going to be the best to offer in the segment. As per our intel, the phone which we are discussing here might be the upcoming Moto G60 which the company has not revealed yet in any market and might introduce in India as one of its initial launch markets.

Broadband providers have become yet another victim of chip shortages choking global supply chains as they are seeing delays of more than a year when ordering internet routers, adding to the challenges faced by millions still working from home.

Carriers have been quoted more than double of the previous wait times, taking the order times to 60 weeks, according to people familiar with the matter, according to Bloomberg.

Running out of the right router risks loss of sales in the ever-competitive broadband market as it would prevent a carrier from being able to add new subscribers to its network. Their supply chains have become a headache because sharp manufacturing shutdowns due to the pandemic-inflicted year of 2020 were aggravated by a prolonged surge in demand for better home broadband equipment, said the head of European regional business for Zyxel Communications Corp, Karsten Gewecke, a Taiwan-based router-maker.

Since January, Zyxel has asked customers to order products a year in advance, he said, because chips from Broadcom Inc. among other components from other companies saw their double to a year or more since then. Zyxel is a major supplier of routers, with customers including Norway’s Telenor ASA and Britain’s Zen Internet.

According to Bloomberg, “Adtran, a U.S. network equipment maker picking up market share from China’s Huawei Technologies Co. in Europe, has also warned customers of supply chain risks and lead-time extensions in recent months.” The company has more than doubled its inventory by expanding its warehouse facilities in the U.K.

No carrier has run out of routers completely yet, but for the next six months, the supply chain looks strained, so it’s possible, according to Gewecke. “We have been very close several times,” he said in a video call. “It could still happen.”

Global trade disturbances due to the Suez Canal blockage also caused delays for shipments already en route.

The gap between ordering a chip and getting it is growing.

Zyxel’s problems started when manufacturing in its Wuxi, China factory shut down for a month due to Covid-19, a year ago. “Since it reopened, supplies have been spotty and shipping costs have spiked as much as ten times their previous levels as exporters raced to catch up, even vying for space with outbound medical and personal protective equipment.”

Since Chinese factories restarted, chipsets have become a global bottleneck, choked by supply-demand mismatches and shortages of parts like silicon wafers. Components for other systems like power management and memory are also affected, Gewecke said.

“It’s a snowball effect that we’re pushing in front of us, and the situation since then has just become worse and worse and worse,” said Gewecke. “When I talk to some of the chipset vendors, some of them tell me that they have something like overbooking of 300% of their capacity.”

Routers command lower margins than smartphones and computers, therefore it is pushed back in the line for manufacturing at the semiconductor foundries which are finding allocation of scarce resources difficult. 

Some carriers have hoarded inventory to avoid shortfalls, and some were further insulated by ordering months’ worth of equipment ahead of potential Brexit trade disruptions.
