Some transfer windows deliver headlines one at a time. Barcelona just delivered two on the same morning. World Cup Golden Ball winner Rodri and versatile full-back João Cancelo are both set to complete moves to Camp Nou, capping off one of the most ambitious rebuilding summers in recent Barça history.
Rodri’s Blockbuster Move
Barcelona and Manchester City have brokered a deal worth around €76.5 million, with the two clubs exchanging paperwork to finalize the agreement. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move is done, with Rodri set to sign a four-year contract running until June 2030. Reports suggest City will receive an initial fee of roughly $68.8 million, with achievable add-ons pushing the total package to around $82 million.

At Barcelona, Rodri will reunite with several of his World Cup-winning Spain teammates, including Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri and Lamine Yamal — a reunion that should ease his transition into a new dressing room. Rodri notably didn’t feature in Manchester City’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, reportedly not even travelling with the squad due to his pending move.
Cancelo’s Emotional Third Homecoming
Barcelona’s second big arrival comes with even more sentimental weight. João Cancelo is set to join Barcelona for a third time after agreeing to terminate his contract with Al Hilal, becoming a free agent after two previous loan spells in 2023-24 and last season.

Cancelo teased his return on social media, sharing that he was already on a plane with the message “Back home,” underlining just how much this move means to him personally.
A Summer of Serious Ambition
This makes Cancelo Barcelona’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Jesse Bisiwu, with Rodri set to become the fifth. Barça remain active in the market too, continuing their pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez or another forward, and potentially a new centre-back.
What’s Next
Rodri is expected to arrive in Barcelona within days and could even be presented before the Joan Gamper Trophy fixture against Al Ahly at Spotify Camp Nou. For official confirmations as they land, fans can follow the Barcelona official website.
