Theatrical Release: Independence Day Weekend

Awarapan 2 releases in cinemas worldwide on August 14, 2026. The release date places the film in a high-visibility Independence Day weekend slot, which adds to the sense that Vishesh Films is treating this as one of its major event releases of the year.

Awarapan 2 will clash with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 at the box office on Independence Day weekend. Hashmi has already confirmed the film is not being postponed.

The Story: Shivam Returns

Shivam returns to the crime world, where his path forward demands redemption, love, and sacrifice. As relationships deepen and conflicts intensify, every choice tests his resolve and shapes his destiny.

The sequel picks up where the original left off, with the makers promising to answer questions left unresolved in the first film while further exploring themes of love, redemption, loss and revenge that made Awarapan a cult favourite.

Emraan Hashmi: Nineteen Years in the Making

Emraan Hashmi is set to reprise his role as Shivam Pandit nineteen years after Awarapan.

The original Awarapan, released in 2007 and directed by Mohit Suri, gradually grew into one of Emraan Hashmi’s most remembered films. Its tragic romantic core, distinctive mood and hugely loved songs gave it a shelf life that outlasted its initial theatrical moment.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar of Filmistaan and Notebook fame, Awarapan 2 is expected to be a surprise at the box office and has the potential to end the dearth of a clean hit film for Emraan Hashmi.

Cast and Characters

Awarapan 2 brings back Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit alongside Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, Aniruddh Rawal and Atul Kumar.

The film will also mark the feature film acting debut of Paresh Rawal’s son Aniruddh Rawal.

Shabana Azmi plays the villain Nafisa — marking one of her most menacing roles in recent memory.

The Music: A New Composer Ensemble

The musical identity of Awarapan 2 is being positioned as one of its major draws, with the soundtrack composed by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Mallik and Akhil Sachdeva — a line-up that signals the makers are leaning into the same emotional-musical space that helped the first film build its enduring following.

Following the massive commercial success of the 2007 original’s soundtrack, which gifted fans timeless classics like Tera Mera Rishta and Toh Phir Aao, the makers of Awarapan 2 have pinned high hopes on the new composer lineup.
