The Gift of Deceit (Dom de Iludir) on Netflix: Release Date, Cast, Plot and More

Imagine you are desperate to save your sick daughter, and the person you trust with her cure turns out to be a fraud. That is the starting point of The Gift of Deceit, a new Brazilian thriller arriving on Netflix on October 28, 2026. Its original title is Dom de Iludir.

The Gift of Deceit: Story

Lúcia Rossetti (Marieta Severo) is an art collector whose daughter Maíra (Alice Wegmann) has an illness no one can identify. In her desperation, Lúcia turns to a spiritual therapist and is scammed. The betrayal doesn’t stay simple. It pulls hidden secrets into the open and exposes the old ties between two families, shaped by love, control, resentment and guilt.

Who’s in It?

• Alice Wegmann plays Maíra Rossetti. She is known for Rensga Hits, Orphans of a Nation and Wounded Past, and appeared in Netflix’s Ayrton Senna biopic.
• Marieta Severo plays Lúcia Rossetti. She has appeared in Big Family and Hidden Truths, and this is her first Netflix project.
• Supporting cast: José de Abreu (Bóris Petrov), Nanda Costta (Irina), Luciana Paes (Bárbara Petrov), Laila Garin (Sandra), Rui Ricardo Diaz (Nilo), Heloisa Jorge (Elaine), Allan Souza Lima (Diego) and Hamilton Dias (Jorge).

Mauro Mendonça Filho directs. His earlier work includes Hidden Truths, Trail of Lies and S.O.S. Emergência. Carol Rodrigues, Felipe Sholl, Josefina Trotta and Pedro Riguetti joined the writers’ room, and Diane Maia and Tania Pacheco are executive producers.

Why It’s Worth Your Watchlist?

It has a clear hook: a mother, a daughter and a scam that goes wrong. A 10-episode run gives the secrets room to build, and Brazil has been a strong source of Netflix Originals this year. If you liked a slow-burn family secrets drama, mark October 28.
