An action star in a suede jacket next to a red motorcycle. A comedian in pajama pants making pancakes-adjacent chaos. Somehow, that’s the same movie.
Netflix’s upcoming action-comedy Spy Duo has officially begun production, and the first behind-the-scenes photos are already turning heads. Stars Kevin Hart and Henry Cavill were spotted filming in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, giving fans an early look at what promises to be one of the more unexpected on-screen pairings of the year.
What’s Spy Duo About?
Based on a short story by author Sean Lewis, the film follows two rival spies whose double lives collide in the most domestic way possible — they meet in a Lamaze class as their wives become close friends. Forced together, the pair reluctantly become partners navigating fatherhood while juggling their secret identities. It’s a premise built for contrast, and the first photos lean right into that: Cavill looking effortlessly suave, Hart looking like he just rolled out of bed.
Who’s Behind the Camera?
The project brings together serious industry firepower. Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment, Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Productions, and Kevin Hart’s own Hartbeat are all producing alongside Netflix. Directing duties go to McG, a familiar name to Netflix audiences thanks to earlier projects like The Babysitter and Family Switch. The screenplay comes from a notable writing team, including the Molyneux sisters and the Nee brothers.

Why This Pairing Works
Henry Cavill has built a career on commanding, action-driven roles, a trajectory closely tied to his breakout as Superman in the DC film universe. Pairing that action-hero presence with Kevin Hart’s comedic timing is a classic mismatched-buddy formula — one that’s worked well for Netflix before, and one this film seems eager to lean into fully.
