Sheffield United set to sack Chris Wilder

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is set to leave the club today, after weeks of disagreements and arguments with the board following the objectives and the recruitment process next season.

The most telling sign that Wilder will leave the club comes from the club cancelling the press conference on Friday, citing ‘circumstances beyond their control’ as the reason behind the decision.

While it isn’t a complete assurance of the fact, it is increasingly likely that the Blades boss will depart the club. That is also more amplified by the fact that they are at the bottom of the table right now, and are the favourites to be relegated at the end of the season, which depletes the club’s stock a lot. Moreover, their stock has dropped massively considering they were on the verge of qualifying for Europe at one point last season.

Wilder has been in charge of Sheffield United for about five years, having joined the club in 2016. The recent heat between the manager and the board was incited due to the manager reportedly downplaying the worth of his squad and pushing for signings that the board did not agree on. The higher authorities wanted Wilder to concentrate more on managing the team instead of signing more players.

The fact that no loan signings were made during January is also something that Wilder was vocal about during his conversations with the upper management.

Sheffield United will face Leicester this weekend in the Premier League, and in all likelihood, they could have a new face at the touchline on Sunday.
