Sadia Khateeb on Breaking Through with The Diplomat: “If I’m Not Given a Chance, How Will I Prove Myself?”

Sadia Khateeb may have made her silver screen debut with Shikara in 2020, but it was her impactful role in the John Abraham-led film The Diplomat that turned the spotlight squarely on her.

As the film gained a wider audience following its OTT release, Khateeb found herself suddenly immersed in a whirlwind of shoots and schedules. Yet, amid all the buzz, she remains grounded and acutely aware of the hurdles that come with being an outsider in the industry.

From Shikara to The Diplomat: A Journey Just Beginning

Sadia’s rise hasn’t been overnight. Despite her breakout performances, the 27-year-old actor knows she’s only scratched the surface of her potential. “I haven’t got the time to sink it in yet. I just know that I’m very busy lately. I’m continuously shooting and that’s the best thing,” she shares.

But success, she says, is only as sustainable as the opportunities that follow. “You are only as talented as the opportunities coming your way. If I’m not given an opportunity, how will I prove myself?”

The Outsider’s Dilemma: Praise Laced with Pressure

Khateeb doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the duality of recognition—it brings joy, but also a looming anxiety about the future. “When people say something good, it gives me a sense of happiness, but it brings a lot of nervousness too… How will I be able to show them that I’m better than what you’ve seen?”

For her, each compliment is a challenge to surpass the last performance, and every lull between projects can feel like a pause in momentum she can’t afford.

Navigating a Destiny-Driven Industry

Even after working with heavyweights—Vidhu Vinod Chopra in Shikara, Akshay Kumar in Raksha Bandhan, and John Abraham—Sadia still finds herself grappling with unpredictability. “I debuted in the most uncertain time—right before COVID. Then came Raksha Bandhan during the second wave. The Diplomat is my first non-COVID release.”

While many actors faced similar roadblocks during the pandemic, Khateeb views her journey through a pragmatic lens. She emphasizes that showbiz is a destiny-driven business where timing can make or break careers. “Even with big names backing The Diplomat, it took over a year to release. So, all my calculations have failed. Nobody really knows what works in this industry.”

Sadia’s Manifesto: Heart Over Hype

Rather than chasing trends or waiting endlessly for big banners to knock, Sadia focuses on following her instincts. “The best thing you can do is see if the work touches your heart. If it does, do it,” she says.

Still, she carries a wishlist in her heart: “I wish I can get a YRF or a Maddock film. I desperately wish that. But until they see the potential in me, I have to keep working.”

Looking Ahead with Hope and Hustle

For Sadia Khateeb, starring with John Abraham in this movie might be the film that put her on the map, but her hunger for meaningful roles and authentic storytelling is what keeps her moving forward. She’s not just chasing stardom—she’s crafting a legacy built on passion, perseverance, and the desire to prove her worth every time she steps in front of the camera.
