Resident Evil 9 Reveal Expected in 2025, Launch in 2026

According to known leaker Dusk Golem, who has a reliable track record when it comes to CAPCOM news, Resident Evil 9 is still on track for a 2025 reveal and a 2026 release. Sharing details on X, Dusk Golem said that the game is “almost 100%” happening, and a reveal should take place this year, with a release set after that.

But it remains to be seen whether or not the reveal will come this summer during summer events like Summer Game Fest or later at The Game Awards. The release could similarly land during CAPCOM’s ongoing fiscal year (ending March 31, 2026) or bleed into the second half of the calendar year.

Resident Evil 9 Leak Hints at 2025 Reveal, 2026 Launch, New Setting, and Open-World Reinvention

In previous leaks, Dusk Golem stated that Resident Evil 9 would take place on a country island influenced by Singapore and that the story will be set in a countryside town. Although we’ve already had the chance to explore rural environments in games like Resident Evil 4 (Spain) and Resident Evil Village (Romania), the brand new Southeast Asian setting likely sets a different tone. Last year, the leaker also mentioned that both Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds would feature open-world gameplay.

With Monster Hunter Wilds having launched in February as an open-world title, this lends credibility to the idea that RE9 will follow suit. As for why the game is taking longer than usual, Dusk Golem explained that CAPCOM is aiming to reinvent the franchise, much like it did with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil VII. Players shouldn’t expect a gameplay style similar to Resident Evil Village, though it’s still unclear whether the perspective will return to third-person or stick with first-person.

As for when the game might be revealed, CAPCOM has several showcase options: Summer Game Fest in June, Gamescom in August, Tokyo Game Show in September, or possibly holding out for a big announcement at The Game Awards in December, which would suggest a late 2026 release.
