Steam Calendar Feature Officially Rolls Out to Recommend New Games Directly

Steam’s calendar feature is reportedly rolling out to all users by October 24, 2026. It gives Valve’s storefront a dedicated, reportedly algorithm-driven place to recommend new and upcoming games.

The feature reportedly appears as both a front-page widget and a standalone page, sorting games by release date with filters for tags, early access status, and wishlist state. Steam runs mainly on Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux, and the new page refreshes daily. Reports say the wide release follows a developer blog post, as Polygon initially reported.

How the Steam Calendar Feature Picks Your Games

Valve’s recommendation engine doesn’t hand-pick games. Reports about the company’s blog post say the calendar uses your recently played games to find players with similar playtime profiles, then checks which titles those players have wishlisted or are playing.

The page covers games released in the past month and titles launching over the next month, keeping its window deliberately narrow. Users can filter by tag, early access status, and wishlist membership, turning a sprawling storefront into a shortlist—useful on a platform where thousands of titles compete for the same front-page slot. Worth noting: developers can’t buy calendar placement; reports say the ordering is entirely algorithmic, separating it from paid store visibility and making it a genuine discovery channel rather than an advertising slot.

Why Discoverability Is the Real Story

Steam already runs major seasonal events, including the Steam Summer Sale and Steam Next Fest, concentrating attention into a few weeks. A daily calendar could spread that attention across the whole year instead, structurally changing how wishlists grow. The platform has shown how quickly concentrated attention converts into numbers: earlier this month, the Deadlock Steam concurrent user (CCU) record run rode that same dynamic.

A personalised release feed could work the other way, giving smaller games steadier exposure even if they never trend. For Indian developers and publishers, it could offer a free discovery surface that doesn’t depend on a marketing budget, while small studios shipping on Windows, macOS, or Linux could get the same algorithmic shot as larger teams if their tags and launch dates are accurate. Still, players with thin play histories give the algorithm little to match against, so it could lean on broader popularity signals in those cases.
