Deadlock Steam CCU Record: Playtest Surpasses Team Fortress 2 Peak

Reportedly, Valve’s unreleased Deadlock has broken its own Steam record. The reported figure is 262,145 concurrent players, surpassing Team Fortress 2’s reportedly historic peak on October 10, 2026. Deadlock remains an in-development PC title, currently available through a reportedly invite-only Steam playtest. That milestone puts the unfinished build in direct competition with one of Valve’s longest-running multiplayer franchises.

Why Does the Deadlock Steam CCU Record Matter?

The playtest peaked at 262,145 concurrent players, topping Team Fortress 2’s 253,997-player record from 2023. These figures, including the October 10 milestone, point to a noticeable change in platform activity. The comparison matters because Deadlock hasn’t launched as a finished game, while Team Fortress 2 has both a long-running audience and a complete commercial release.

Concurrent-user peaks show how many people play at once, not total owners or daily players. So, the record marks a major burst of activity, but it doesn’t reveal how many players will stay. For now, the clearest takeaway is that Deadlock attracted a larger simultaneous Steam audience than Team Fortress 2’s previous high.

What Does the Deadlock Steam CCU Record Say About Its Playtest?

The milestone highlights interest in a distinctive mix of team combat and map objectives. Deadlock’s confirmed features include 6v6 matches, lane pushing, and a zip-line transit system, all set in a world that blends fantasy with science fiction. Players have more to handle than aiming alone: teams must battle opponents, push through lanes, and use the map’s movement routes. For more detail, see Destructoid.

The 6v6 format also makes coordination a key part of every match. Players must track allies, opponents, and shifting lane conditions, while zip lines provide a distinct way to cross the battlefield. That mix helps explain why Deadlock’s playtest has drawn interest from people who want more than a conventional shooter. Earlier coverage also offers additional context about the game.

What Is Solomon’s Role in Deadlock’s Player Surge?

tracking data links the new peak to Solomon, a character whose abilities draw on a chessboard motif. Solomon can turn part of the map into a playable chessboard, use a knight to grant allies barriers, and throw rooks at opponents.

The character’s queen ultimate wipes out the grid. These abilities offer a distinctive tactical hook: they connect character powers to a familiar board-game theme while changing how part of the arena functions. They also encourage teams to consider positioning and ability timing instead of treating every fight as a simple exchange of shots. Solomon’s timed arrival may have contributed to the record’s timing, but the reported peak alone can’t show why individual players joined.

Is Deadlock Reviewed or Fully Released on Steam?

No. Deadlock remains in development and is available as a PC playtest through Steam; its full version hasn’t been released. It has no official review score, so players shouldn’t mistake the milestone for a critical Players should treat Deadlock as an evolving playtest rather than a completed release with a settled reception.

Valve hasn’t provided a full-release date in the available details, so there’s no confirmed launch window to plan around. Deadlock’s record is an impressive playtest milestone, but its next test will be whether players keep coming back as development continues.
