Apple Launches Its First Touchscreen MacBook Pro With OLED Display: Price, Specs and Sale Date

Apple has taken a step the Mac has never taken before. The company has announced new MacBook Pro models with an OLED display and touch input, the first time a Mac has supported touch. The new models sit alongside the existing MacBook Pro lineup and are available to pre-order now, with sales starting November 6, 2026.

The key changes at a glance

A display built for the Mac

The new panel uses tandem OLED, the same layered approach found in the iPad Pro, which is why Apple is calling it PROLED XDR. It reaches up to 2,000 nits at peak and 1,000 nits sustained, and its variable refresh rate runs from 10Hz to 120Hz. Coverage of the P3 and Adobe RGB colour gamuts makes it suitable for photo and video work. The display also replaces the notch with the Dynamic Island, bringing the Mac in line with Apple’s recent iPhone design. OLED technology is explained in more detail on the OLED Wikipedia page.

Touch is a companion, not a replacement

Apple is positioning touch as a complement to the mouse and trackpad rather than a full redesign of macOS. Touch input works alongside existing controls, and the company has not mentioned Apple Pencil or pen support. The approach is covered in general terms on the touchscreen Wikipedia page.

Design and sound

The new models are slightly smaller in every dimension and about 200 to 300 grams lighter, depending on the model. A reworked thermal design directs warm air away from the display, and the Apple logo on the lid glows, as it did on older MacBooks. The six-speaker system has new woofers, which Apple says deliver 50% deeper bass, along with new tweeters. The speakers are designed to sound good even with the lid closed.

Security and what has not changed

There is no Face ID. Touch ID remains the only secure authentication method, as explained on the Touch ID Wikipedia page. Chips, memory and storage options, connectivity and battery life are the same as the standard MacBook Pro. The M5 Pro and M5 Max chips carry over, so the performance story is about the display and design rather than a new processor generation.

US pricing

India pricing has not been confirmed at the time of writing. Check the Apple India MacBook Pro page for local prices once they are announced.

Should you wait?

For creators who work with colour-critical images and video, the OLED panel and wide gamut are the main reasons to consider the new models. Buyers who want touch input or a notch-free design will find that appeal here. Those who want the same chips at a lower price may prefer the existing MacBook Pro line-up. You can read Apple’s own description of the lineup in the Apple Newsroom.
