Picture this: you’ve saved nearly ₹3 lakh, set an alarm for pre-orders, and the iPhone Duo is gone before you finish your payment. For many Indian buyers, that’s exactly how it went.

What Happened?

Pre-orders opened at 5:30pm IST on October 16, and Apple’s first foldable sold out within about an hour. A Livemint report says only around 6,000 units will reach India in the first week, ahead of the October 23 sale. Delivery dates for new orders have slipped to January 2027, so this has stopped being a festive-season buy. freepressjournal91mobiles

Why the Grey Market Is Booming?

Sellers are reportedly sourcing units from Dubai and Singapore, where stock may be available sooner. That puts a grey-market Duo at roughly ₹3.3 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh. The high Indian price also pushes buyers toward imports. Counterpoint’s Tarun Pathak says imported units face a net cost impact of more than 40%, because early units aren’t assembled locally.

Should You Buy Grey?

It’s tempting, but be careful. Grey-market units can mean weaker warranty support and uncertain after-sales service, which matters a lot on a foldable smartphone with a complex hinge. If you can wait, official stock should loosen up. Analysts expect only around 200,000 units to sell in India in the first full year. communicationstoday
