Resident Evil 9, Monster Hunter Wilds: Will it be an open world?
For some time, we have heard a lot about the Monster Hunter Wilds, and most of this is rumoured and leaked. In this series, we have one more rumour to add, and this is from Dusk Golem, famous CAPCOM leaker.
In a recent rumor, he revealed that the publisher’s next two major projects, like Monster Hunter Wilds, will follow the Dragon’s Dogma 2. By this, he means that these two games will follow in the footsteps of the later game with an open-world design.
In his recent post on X/Twitter, Dusk Golem has wrote,
“So here’s a little tidbit I’ll share: CAPCOM often will greenlight new initiatives in 3’s closer together. Decent examples are RE7, RE:2, & DMCV, which were all greenlit fairly close together to take advantage of their new RE Engine, and the idea to remake RE:2 inspired them to also take on RE:3 & RE:4 for a remake initiative. Dragon’s Dogma 2 expanded RE Engine functionality for open world games; the two other games building on this tech are Monster Hunter Wilds & Resident Evil 9.”
Now, if the information about Monster Hunter Wilds is true, then it would be a very bold and new direction for the company’s premiere horror franchise. Though nowadays open-world environments are indeed popular,.
But using this with the horror theme and that too-linear game design seems to be jeopardizing everything CAPCOM has done so far. If we see this as an experiment for future game development, then it becomes very important.
In addition to this post, Dusk Golem has reassured that Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds will retain their respective DNA. The same thing Dragon’s Dogma 2 did, so we can take an idea from there.
However, here we hope that the game development teams can become a bit bolder than Dragon’s Dogma 2 and come up with some unique elements. The game that has been released feels more like a reboot than a sequel to its previous part.
