Alexei Shostakov is finally dressed for battle. A new Marvel promo has given us the first look at Red Guardian’s upgraded suit for Avengers: Doomsday, and it quietly answers a few worries fans had. For more Marvel and Hollywood news on Technosports, read on.

Avengers: Doomsday: The Surprise Reveal

David Harbour appears in the new look in Marvel’s star-studded “Silence Your Phones” theater promo, currently playing before Avengers: Endgame Encore showings. The cast is suited up in a movie theater with popcorn, and every costume had been seen before except this one, which made Red Guardian’s suit the real surprise.

What’s Different This Time?

The new costume looks like a tweaked version of his Thunderbolts* outfit. It has white shoulder pads and an updated neck piece. The biggest change is the chest emblem: the Soviet star, a nod to his super-soldier roots, has been replaced by a New Avengers logo to match the team. The red-and-white color scheme remains. We haven’t seen the lower half of the suit or the helmet yet.

A Quick Suit History

This is Alexei’s third major suit since Black Widow five years ago. His debut costume was his original Soviet-era outfit. Thunderbolts* arrived 11 years later in-story with an updated suit, probably a homemade upgrade, though the film never explained it. Now he gets a New Avengers version.

It also means the sponsored “New AvengerZ” racing jumpsuit, previously his only confirmed Doomsday suit, won’t be his battle outfit. That gag suit was even on display at Disney’s D23 Expo.

Will He Survive Doomsday?

Fans worried because Red Guardian was missing from most footage outside the New Avengers Tower scene. The suit reveal calms some of that fear. He wasn’t seen with his daughter Yelena Belova’s group, nor with U.S. Agent and Bucky in the ScreenX trailer, so his role remains a mystery.

Harbour has hinted at a “brotherhood” with the actors playing John Walker and Bucky Barnes. A rumor from Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus suggests an unexpected team-up with the Thing. Still, a dramatic sacrifice to save Yelena is a popular fan theory, so nothing is certain.
