Where It Stands — and What It Means

The romantic comedy drama is looking to wrap up its entire theatrical run around the Rs. 50 crore gross mark, which will not be anything game-changing but somewhat face-saving after a dismal start. A Rs. 50 crore finish on a modest budget is commercially workable, but it’s a far cry from the impact this franchise once commanded.

For context, the original Pati Patni Aur Woh — the 2019 Kartik Aaryan-led version — had a full theatrical run of Rs. 80 crore nett in India, a mark that’s now extremely difficult to achieve for rom-coms in the post-2020 era. Had this film released before 2020, trade analysts believe it likely would have performed significantly better.

That’s a sobering reality check — not just for this film, but for the entire genre in Hindi cinema right now.

The Bigger Picture: Is the Bollywood Rom-Com in Trouble?

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is not alone in this struggle. The romantic comedy space has been consistently underperforming at the multiplex since the pandemic reshaped audience habits. With OTT platforms offering comfort viewing at home, light-hearted comedies are often the first genre that loses the theatrical battle. Films in this space need an exceptional hook — outstanding reviews, viral word-of-mouth, or a unique premise — to push past the Rs. 60–70 crore mark. None of those factors played strongly enough here.

It’s worth noting that the reported figures include some feeding, so the actual performance may be slightly lower than the headline number suggests. For more Bollywood analysis and entertainment news, visit TechnoSports.
